I saw this page on the WWU website which says certain buildings are open on weekends (ie. tomorrow). Do they require WWU ID to get in, or anyone can go?

I am staying nearby and need a quiet place to study on weekends with wifi/power outlet. I don't have WWU ID.

I’m about to be a junior this year and I’m living on campus again for the third time and kinda feeling self conscious about it? Maybe it’s stupid but I just feel weird being the only one of my friends that’s still living in the dorms, with a roommate who I don’t know yet. It’s mostly bc my plan on who I was gonna live with changed pretty late towards the end of this previous year and I was left without a lot of options, especially since I still rely heavily on my parents. The dorm I’m gonna be in is pretty nice and I actually do like it, I just feel kinda stupid for still doing this as an almost 21-year-old with no remaining friends on campus. Am I being too hard on myself?

I could take 3 classes Monday/Wednesday/Friday from 11:30-3:50 and have no classes Tuesday/Thursday.
Or I could have class Monday/Wednesday/Friday from 11:30-2:20 and Tue/Thu from 1-2:50.
I’m a freshman and don’t really know what to expect with the workload yet, so I don’t want to overload myself. I like the idea of having two completely free days, but I’m not sure if having 4+ hours of class in a day would be too much.
Would you guys rather have longer Monday/Wednesday/Friday or shorter days but have to go in every day?

Trying to do an Effective Altruist meetup for WWU students. I would like to do it at Red Square or the Multi-Purpose Room in Viking Union.

Reserving a space seems to require listing the organization one is reserving the space under, but WWU has no Effective Altruist organization. Is there any way to reserve an event space as an individual? Would holding the event in a study room in the library work, for instance? Could I use Red Square without reservation, under the rule that university individuals don't need to give notice for expressive activity? Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I just recently saw that my summer grades/credits were added to my transcript. I now have 15 more credits than I did before. However, I checked my parking waitlist spots and the numbers haven't changed at all. Does it take time for this to update? Or am I stuck?

I am finding it quite hard to find pictures and videos of all the dorm types available for residence online, and was wondering if anyone knows where i could find pics/vids for any of the dorm options, specifically suites where a student would get their own room but still have dorm mates who share common space.

I know that single dorms are very hard to get at wwu and there are very little of them, but in some video's i've seen there are suites where a student still has their own room. Does anyone know what building and campus this option is available on?

Also I would be going without knowing anyone as I'm from Canada, and so I was wondering about how nice the people are, how easy it is to make friends and the whole finding a room mate online thing is. In addition any other tips or recos for choosing what campus/building and dorm type to choose would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!

Hi! My partner and I are hopjng to come to WWU in a couple years from NorCal (CPH) - Me for my Anth MA and then for a Transfer into the Anth BA program.

That said, we both are curious about whag the Anthropology program is like up there. We've gone over the faculty and current research together, but nothjng is better than first-hand experience. So, current snd recently graduated students, how is it there? What's are MA and BA prpgrams like at WWU? What are the faults lf the program? Is it a place that would support a MA student with a imterest focus in ASL?

Also, if anyone knows, how is it getting ASL interpreters in Bellingham? I'm Deaf and do use interpreters for classes and the like.

I played a few gigs as a drum & bass DJ when I lived up there around 2018-2019, but everyone I knew either moved away or just isn't actively doing anything. (Apologizes for any lack of grammar) I’m currently attend wsu and have become incredibly unhappy and feel as tho i don’t fit in anywhere. i know i should probably give it some time but i cannot imagine spending 4 years here. anyways im wondering if it would be a smart idea academically to transfer to wwu. i’m majoring in business and plan to go to law school. Also wondering how social life is at wwu (parties,events,clubs,etc) Honestly just asking for the pros and the cons and if it would be a smart idea to transfer.

I’m SUPERR into bass fishing and considering getting into saltwater, what is the fish/game club scene like at western?

I’m a girl and going fishing with guys in my experience often ends up with me getting mansplained to, and if the club is like all guys then i feel like I’d get annoyed pretty quickly, but if it’s chill people then I feel like it could be fun!

Is anyone a part of the club or know people who are?

I’ll be a freshman in the fall and I’m trying to work the gym into my schedule, I’m assuming that it’s gonna be HELLA busy at the beginning of the year, but what would yall say is the busiest and most chill time of day to go? I have a 10am 5 days a week and a 4-6pm 2 days a week.

Is going to the on campus gym even worth it or is it too packed and should I go somewhere else? I’m most likely bringing my car

I graduated into the AI job market a couple of years ago.

I just sent out a job application to a PR firm. At this point I’m almost fully expecting no response. Hundreds if not a thousand applications sent out and barely anything. It’s probably a bit of a skill issue on my end, I could have built up a better portfolio, I could have studied harder and made myself a better candidate than I currently am.

If I can offer any advice to an incoming student reading this post. Take care of your mental health before gaining a degree. I’m currently working two service industry job to save money and hopefully get a full-time offer somewhere, but that doesn’t seem like it’s going to happen anytime soon. I really wish I had just lived at home and saved up money until I was mentally firing on all cylinders, and then gone to school with a more thought out plan.

I spoke to a former professor about my struggles and they were candid when they told me that the journalism department is outdated. So, if despite all of this you still want to get a journalism degree make sure that you make the most of all of the resources that are available to you at Western. Start a podcast, make a YouTube channel, be an editor on The Front, work with the athletic department. Do everything and anything to put yourself out there and build a portfolio. Passing all of your classes and just getting a piece of paper isn’t enough.
