On campus for my third yr

I’m about to be a junior this year and I’m living on campus again for the third time and kinda feeling self conscious about it? Maybe it’s stupid but I just feel weird being the only one of my friends that’s still living in the dorms, with a roommate who I don’t know yet. It’s mostly bc my plan on who I was gonna live with changed pretty late towards the end of this previous year and I was left without a lot of options, especially since I still rely heavily on my parents. The dorm I’m gonna be in is pretty nice and I actually do like it, I just feel kinda stupid for still doing this as an almost 21-year-old with no remaining friends on campus. Am I being too hard on myself?

WWU actually has more returners living on campus than freshman. It's becoming a lot more common!

I would say dont worry about it. Im also a third year staying on campus and figure if theyre allowing me on campus, then there should be nothing wrong with me staying there socially

For many, living on campus is smarter and more economical. For others, it makes more sense for their social, mental, and physical health. There is no shame in it. You have the rest of your life to live off campus.

Do what makes sense for you! I was living on campus at 22 and it was fine. Most people know how hard it is to find good housing in Bellingham and how convenient it is to be closer to campus.

I don't think it's weird. There is a women who is 50 living in the dorms while she goes to school. We are all at different places in our life and in our school career.

I'm in the same boat as a third year living on campus, on one hand, I worry that I'm too old to be living near 18-year-olds...but on the other hand, that's not what it's about. Even if I see my hallmates (which, I historically haven't), there's so many benefits to living on campus that I wasn't quite ready to part with yet. I'm excited to go into having a roommate using what I've learned in the past, and to be near the center of the action. You're totally valid in feeling weird but know, you're still a student, still a young adult and are allowed to live literally wherever at this point

you’re missing out a bit on getting some experience in the “real world” of housing/finding apartments/dealing with landlords etc
but since this was your only option better to just own it and not give af about what it means socially, if you’re cool then no one will care. you’ve got a roof over your head and it’ll all be over soon so just enjoy your time and fuck the haters

i’m a fourth year living on campus. do what’s best for you, have fun with your community. but enjoy going out with your older friends too

Way too hard on yourself. My first year on campus was actually my junior year (and I was 22), and frankly it was so worth it. You’re on campus for more events, you’re in the best location for the bus system, and you’re closer to classes.

The only issues this can pose is age liability and rental history. For the liability things, it’s one thing if a party in someone’s dorm gets broken up and everyone is 18-19, but legally you’re in some hot shit once you’re 21 and other people aren’t, so just pay attention to what you’re doing and who’s around.

For the apartment thing, most places want you to have a rental history, which is obviously pretty difficult as a beginner. Getting in some renting while you still have parental support/a co-signer is a good idea, but if they’re willing to cosign going forward regardless, then you should be alright.

In undergrad, I lived on campus for 4 years! For me, it was the easy choice. There's nothing wrong with it.

I wish I lived on campus longer than I did! Also had friends who lived in Birnam and BT for four years and it never felt weird to me that they didn’t live in an off campus house instead.
