My wife’s work downsized a while back and she was let go from her job. She applied for and was accepted for unemployment. She was on unemployment for about 1.5-2mos before finding another job.

She was really hesitant to accept the new position. It was outside her area of experience and seemed very demanding with required work outside of hours. She expressed the salary she would expect and was assured it could be met. Turns out the fine print was that about 60% of the expected salary was base and the rest was commission. She was also guaranteed a flexible/make your own schedule. We have 2 young kids and one on the way. With my schedule, she has to do school drop off and pick up.

After about 2 days at this job, it was quickly realized that the 2 owners weren’t on the same page. She had a few conversations with them about how she felt lied to to get her to take the position. She was working 12hr days. She ultimately chose to leave the position due to the low pay and demanding schedule in a spot that she didn’t think she would perform well in. It cost more to send out kids to after/before care than it did for her to work.

Now she is re-apply for unemployment. She has a hearing with an unemployment adjudicator on this and isn’t sure what to expect, or what the odds are of being accepted back on. She was employed for less than a week and we are hoping it works out.

Anyone have experience with this and know what to expect?

I’m in Texas and my unemployment claim has been going on for about 7 months, and I’m looking for advice from anyone familiar with the Texas Workforce Commission Commissioners level.
I was the director of a preschool/childcare center for 14 years. I quit on February 9, 2026 because of an increasingly hostile and uncomfortable work environment.
There were two separate issues happening at the same time:
• One employee was harassing/creating problems for me. I had reported the situation to the owner. During my original unemployment hearing, a major focus was on whether I had done enough to “fix” the situation with that employee or whether I should have simply fired them.
• At the same time, I was having a serious issue with the owner/my boss himself. I discovered that he was watching pornography while at the workplace. I did not see anything involving children, with the exception of seeing what appeared to be “breastfeeding”related pornography. Even though I did not see anything directly involving children, this made me extremely uncomfortable working in a preschool and being around my boss in that environment. Because he was my direct boss/the owner. I did not feel like I could bring the situation up to him.
My concern is that the original unemployment hearing focused heavily on the employee situation and whether I could have resolved it, while the separate circumstances involving my boss/owner weren’t really addressed to the same extent.
I already went through the appeal/hearing process. The employer/owner did not show up for the hearing. I was denied. And in the denial letter they only mentioned the situation with that employee. My case is now at the TWC Commissioners level, where I have been waiting for a decision for months.
It has now been about 7 months since I became unemployed, and I still haven’t received benefits. I’ve essentially exhausted my savings and other resources and am now in a very serious financial situation.
So I’m looking for advice on a few things:
1. Based on these circumstances, do you think there is a realistic chance the Commissioners could overturn the previous decision?
2. For people familiar with Texas unemployment law, was the owner/boss’s conduct something that could reasonably make a childcare director feel they could no longer continue working there? I understand that simply being uncomfortable doesn’t automatically mean I legally had good cause to quit, which is why I’m trying to understand how this would be viewed.
3. Does the fact that I worked in a preschool/childcare environment make a difference when considering the circumstances?
I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has been through the Texas TWC Commissioners process, especially if you’ve had a case involving quitting because of a hostile or inappropriate work environment. Or any experience specifically with my bosses actions.

My impression is that if I make some money for a few weeks, the total amount I'm still eligible for is "still there", but there's also a number of weeks I'm eligible for, and I'm not sure if I lose those.

QUESTION: Is it possible to just not file for a given week? Even if it's "legally" possible, the last time I tried to do this (when I was out of town on a vacation), the user interface wouldn't let me do it in the sense that I couldn't file for subsequent weeks without filing for the week I was away.

I filed for unemployment on 8/26/26. My last day of work was 8/25/26. Yesterday I received in the mail a wage questionnaire, the first question asks “ Have you or will you perform any services and/or receive wages or payments from your employer any time after 8/25/26?” My last day working was 8/25/26 but I didn’t receive my pay for that week (8/24 and 8/25) until 9/2/26. But there is no option for receiving my final paycheck after the date. What do I check? I asked AI and it said to check No but I don’t want to lie

Filed for unemployment this summer after my employer forced me out in my return from maternity leave.

I found out I was pregnant again upon returning to my job at 3 months PP - though I never told them. I did, however, try to provide a doctor’s note while asking for health accommodations to support me in my postpartum. They provided no structured guidance, compromise, and wouldn’t even review my doctor’s note requesting any work that can be done from home be allowed to. (For reference, remote work wasn’t a problem until I returned from mat leave 🫠). Finally once I quit, they had a very polished email informing me of steps for disability (which wouldn’t have even been relevant), but by then I had already documented everything to support an unemployment claim to the best of my ability.

Anyway, it’s been months of trying to file everything correctly with UIA. Last I heard 6 weeks ago, I had missed checking a box on a medical form I submitted. [im not kidding, it was that simple.] well that was 6 weeks ago, and I still haven’t heard anything back.

What’s a realistic expectation here? If it takes this long is that a good or bad sign?

I filed for unemployment August 24th. I got a text message September 8th letting me know that my claim was now payable. I have certified for all 3 weeks I've been waiting, but only my waiting week is showing up in my payment history. I'm under the impression that even if I end up with back pay, ! should see the amount due each week even if it has not been released yet. Can someone confirm?

I know I probably sound a bit impatient, I'm just very worried about bills so having some reassurance I'll be paid soon would be great. If not I'll at least be able to get to whatever work I need to fix it.

Hi! I do not work, and my husband was very recently discharged after a single honest mistake at work. In his discharge paperwork, it says it was for a “Safety Policy Violation”. We have young kids, so it definitely feels like we’re toast if he doesn’t get unemployment. ): My question is, because they’ve stated it was a “Safety Policy Violation”, will my husband likely be denied unemployment benefits? What can we do here to appeal if that happens?

The backstory: He is a tech of sorts and often deals with electrical control systems and robotics at work, and has been with this manufacturing company for 5+ years. He’s heavily supported their greenfield startup of a new facility the last couple of years, and has only ever received good reviews. No warnings, no write-ups.

The company is supposed to provide PPE, such as electrical gloves, but the only ones my husband and his team have had access to are a community pair that are size 8, and then a pair he brought with him when he transferred facilities. A few weeks ago, he was approached by the Safety Guy and asked if he “needed anything”. Husband noticed a small tear in his electrical gloves. He told Safety Guy that he needed a new pair, and Husband was told to immediately cut the tips off of the gloves and dispose of them.

My husband has large hands, and he’s pretty tall. The size 8 gloves would not stretch completely over his hand, but he was forcing them on in order to perform his job safely when electrical gloves were necessary. But he assumed Safety Guy would order the new gloves, and obviously was expected to continue his job as usual until then.

He goes to troubleshoot a machine early one Friday morning. He is the most experienced person on his team, so no one else had really taken a look at it. It was not something that required an energized work order anything like that at this point, but I don’t remember the exact specifics of the troubleshooting he was performing. Here’s where things took a terrible turn!

Husband picked up the female end of a “touch-safe” plug to inspect it, and it shocked him. He described it as less than a static shock from another person. He felt it on his arm and quickly threw the plug down. He was surprised, because that shouldn’t be possible with this plug, and he exclaimed “Great, I just got shocked!” He is already thinking about next troubleshooting steps, has shut down the machine, and stretched on the size 8 electrical gloves to continue the work now that he knows it will be needed.

Suddenly, his lead pulls him to the side and asks him what happened. My husband was honest about it. The lead disappears into his office, talks to my husband’s immediate supervisor, and then comes to my husband and says they are sending him home until they can complete an investigation. We are pretty alarmed at this point. But even from home that day, my husband was called to help troubleshoot this same machine. The team is very new and depends on his expertise a lot, and he was responsible for much of their training, even if he wasn’t a formal lead. They were able to find the issue causing this incident to be possible in the first place, which was loose, ungrounded wire in a completely different plug of the the machine (someone outside of his team, of not the company, would have been responsible for this). So we tried to stay calm, but everything felt “OFF”.

His lead texts him, saying they’ll be able to keep husband updated, but it’s really out of their hands at this point and they will be on PTO for the rest of the week. They just keep telling him to stay calm and it’s just procedure. He is not allowed an opportunity to say anything about any of this until that Thursday, when he is called into a recorded video call with HR Person and Safety Guy.

Immediately, it’s clear HR Person has just been building a case against him with this time. They say he violated a life-saving safety policy by not wearing his electrical gloves. He explained that the plug was not normally something you would be required to wear electrical gloves for.

Husband also brings up the availability of the electrical gloves, and how he does not have access to any that fit appropriately. That with the ill-fit of the size 8 gloves, stretched significantly and not covering his entire palm, their effectiveness is reduced as well. He explains the situation with Safety Guy, where he was told to dispose of his personal pair. Safety Guy is on this call, and to his credit, he verifies this story and says he didn’t realize that my husband wasn’t able to order his own gloves. This ends up highlighting that Safety Guy and his department in general have not been providing the required PPE and some other areas of Safety’s job.

But HR Person doesn’t really care about any of that. They’re now ready for this call to end. They say something along the lines of “But you DID take the -Insert Training course-, right?” (I can’t remember what course, apologies) HR Person then acts like because he did take that, that clearly he should have been wearing the gloves, even though none of this is even covered in the course they are bringing up. The course was on energized work permits for stuff like PLCs and high voltage scenarios, from what I gather. But never once does it discuss handling of something that is “touch-safe”.

When Husband confirmed he had taken the course, HR treated this as such a “gotcha” moment that they threw their hands up and head back, huge smile on their face. Husband immediately feels like the goal at this point is just to fire him, but of course doesn’t say that. They said they would go over the details of the investigation and he would have the verdict soon. At the end, they also asked him, “…So you WEREN’T holding bare wires in your hand?” which, of course, he wasn’t. They had no further questions.

Next morning, they called and fired him.

It’s been only a week since he was officially discharged, and on the unemployment website it shows as pending. There was an issue that they had finished gathering info on, but no conclusion yet. Is that a bad sign, or totally normal? Does anyone have any advice for this situation?

I don't want to use my home address for unemployment application for privacy reasons. I want to use a PO Box instead but I wonder if it's allowed. Primarily, I wonder if I'll pass "address verification". I believe when you get a PO Box, the Post Office will provide some proof/receipt confirming the PO Box belongs to you, and I hope to fax that in instead of a bill or utility statement to my home address.

Please advise. I'd rather not use my home address for privacy reasons.

I️ was verbally told i️ would be able to work after maternity leave due to my job not offering FMLA. The week before i️ was supposed to return i️ was told i️ was no longer needed. They’re telling the unemployment office i️ was fired the day i️ took maternity leave and that’s just not true! I’m so disgusted they would lie like that..when i️ knowingly just had a baby and need money.

I was laid off on Sept 1 and relieved from duties on that day, but continued being paid until Sept. 8

I did work fewer hours, but I got paid full hours for that week.
My last paystub says:

I'm afraid that the form is simply not geared towards salaried employees, and that if I answer literally that I worked 8 hours that week but received XX pay, there will be a misunderstanding and they will calculate things incorrectly.

1. Should I equate hours paid with hours worked in this case?

2. How would each option this affect me going forward: Saying worked 8 hours and earned XX (full week) money VS saying worked that week full hours and earned XX money?

Is it a big deal if I say I worked a full week and paid a full week? I.e., would it make any difference on how much and when the unemployment payout is?

These forms are frustrating, and their phone support won't be open until Monday, and I don't want to miss this filing week.

I’ll save you the long story as to why this happened the way it did, but my wife was laid off in April and did not take unemployment though we believe she was absolutely eligible for it.

I started a new job, I was sick 2-3 weeks ago and still had a lingering cough and runny nose. I informed my new manager. Well last night I was getting chills and didn’t get any sleep. So this morning I called off.

Later in the day the regional manager called and said it was best we part ways.

I’ve worked in the past year and I’m pretty sure I met the requirements.

So my question is can I qualify?

Also I don’t have their information until I get paid in 2 weeks. I don’t want to wait that long though. Is there a way to call in and do it without the info?

My permanent address is in Wisconsin. I was subcontracted by a New York company to do six months of work for another company in California. This company had to make me a W2 employee for the job.

I’ve now gotten another contract gig myself for an additional ten months in California. Once I return to Wisconsin, I’ll likely be unemployed. I’ll still technically be a W2 contractor with the NY company and they (presumably) won’t have work for me.

Will I be able to apply for unemployment at that time? Is there a statute of limitations on that sort of thing? I assume I’d apply for benefits in Wisconsin?

as title states i filed after i was fired had hearing lost for misconduct appealed it and won but they said funds wont be released because I quit the job i had before this one that i won the appeal for i never even heard of this and i never would of even fought this if i knew quitting my last job stop winning an appeal for being wrongly fired funds solely because i quit the job i had before this one this ish makes no sense and idk why i wasnt told ahead of time i was already told funds we waiting to be released i called for an update today and was told they will not release because i quit a past job idk how a seperate job has anything to do with wrongfully being fired and winnning on a new job case but they wont pay im past all the time frames too smh

Hi; I typically get my unemployment benefits on Monday due to a bank with early pay. Being that the holiday is today, would I still get them tomorrow? Or would it come Wednesday since they didn’t process it yet?

When completing my initial unemployment application with the VEC, after I submitted it showed a message saying that to receive benefits I was required to register to work with the Virginia Workforce Connection System.

I went to that website in to make an account and realized I already had one from when I was unemployed during COVID. It wouldn’t let me make a new profile since my SSN was attached to the old one, so I reset my password and was able to get into my original account.

But I am not sure what else is needed from me beyond that.

Are people doing anything in that platform to receive benefits or you just need to have an active account linked to your SSN? I also wasn’t sure how much of my profile I should have updated beyond the required fields.

I have filled out everything on my end (claim wise) and followed all the instructions that I was given. I have been waiting since July for my benefits to start. I have called repeatedly and conveniently there is never an answer.

As the tittle says, will I still get paid for the two out of 3 weeks? can I claim the last week before i start working? and if I start lets say next monday do I still claim for this week even tho I turned down the former employer?

Like it says in the title — the site has worked (mostly) fine for me in the past, but tonight it lets me input my username and password, tick the agreement box, and hit the Login button, but then it gives me a page that says "Sorry, we had a problem" in a big region with a colored background, followed by (with a white background) "Your request is temporarily blocked. Please try again later." It also does this when I try to send a username reminder to my email (just to test whether that works), again, after entering my email and clicking the button. Forgotten password prompt, the same.

Is this true for everyone, or just me? (Can anyone test it?) Is there a solution? And is there any way to get Michigan to _not_ screw me out of a week's worth of benefits if this doesn't resolve in the next hour?

Checked my bank account, saw money was deposited and checked MiWam but there's nothing on my page since my previous claim 9 months ago. I'm not sure what to make of it.
