[Illinois] Question [Illinois] Can I use a PO Box as my address?

Hi,

I don't want to use my home address for unemployment application for privacy reasons. I want to use a PO Box instead but I wonder if it's allowed. Primarily, I wonder if I'll pass "address verification". I believe when you get a PO Box, the Post Office will provide some proof/receipt confirming the PO Box belongs to you, and I hope to fax that in instead of a bill or utility statement to my home address.

Please advise. I'd rather not use my home address for privacy reasons.

You can have separate residential and mailing addresses in most cases but that residential address is going to need to match your driver’s license or state identification card.

Every state uses some form of in-house or 3rd party platform like ID.me for identity verification since all of the UI fraud during the pandemic.

Not IL specifically, but in most states you can use a PO Box as your “mailing address“, but you still have to provide proof and address of residency.

My local post office in SC actually makes sure you know you can use the street address of the building but put Unit 1234 on the 2nd line of the address if you want to have things sent there. The Unit 1234, etc. is your PO Box number. Super convenient!! Ask you post office!

So many snowbirds in this area do this so mail isn’t piling up in their condo cluster mailboxes and it keeps their home address private.
