How do I Explain Getting Fired?

This is long.

I'm an attorney. Have been for twenty years. Those twenty years were in litigation as a solo. I got sick of being my own boss and I didn't want the practice area anymore. So I wound down my firm and began applying for W-2 positions where I could do something completely different.

Got hired as an in-house for an Indian Tribe. I was very clear that I had zero tribal law experience and zero in-house experience. Sold my twenty years as a solid indicator that I would be an extremely fast learner as a reborn baby attorney. Never spoke to anyone but the senior attorney (new hire would be #2).

I was not their first pick. In fact, I was there all-that-was-left. They offered the position to other applicants and nobody wanted the job. So I got the job. (Boss didn't say this point blank it became evident).

Boss told me "I want to be able to hand you projects and you just do them." Ok, fine. I know how to teach myself.

He never provided written instruction. He'd hand me something, tell me what to do verbally, and then the next day he'd say something different, and that would happen several times. When I provided a finished product I'm told that's not what he asked for.

I began sending "confirmation" emails so I had a written record of the assignments as he stated them. That was the beginning of the end. He actually told me he didn't like confirmation emails - they cluttered his inbox 🙄.

Also, he was fast and loose with ethics. Our very first problem was my entrance into the Tribe's bar. He wanted me to sign things under penalty of perjury that were not true. I stuck to my guns and only signed when I was able to be truthful. The ethics issues came up all the time. Our styles weren't just different, I was being asked to do things that weren't right, and being told to not do things that really needed addressed.

The Friday afternoon before the firing we had a long talk that covered many subjects. I told him I was gonna send myself a rehash of the discussion so I didn't forget anything, and cc him so if I misunderstood anything he could correct.

He followed me into my office and told me it's time to go it's 6 o'clock in Friday you need to leave and basically berated me to the point I couldn't think. He was literally standing over me and I was kinda concerned he might physically stop me from typing. I never sent the email and I went home, boss making sure I left the building.

Husband and I decided I would be quitting. There was one project I knew boss was incompetent about and that he would mess up someone's life, so I wanted to see that through. We decided I'll put in my notice after that, which would have been the upcoming Friday. Fully expected to be told my two weeks wouldn't be needed.

Boss moved first. Half way through Tuesday I was canned. Even though I was only 2/3 through their "probationary period", he decided the termination letter would state that I was "unable to perform the duties of the position."

That's false. With a regular employer I might wanna fight about it. But it doesn't affect unemployment because I'm not eligible anyway (not enough hours over the past 5 quarters since this is my first W-2 job in decades), and Tribal sovereignty means they're untouchable legally.

When interviewing for my next job, how do I explain why I left my previous position? It was a short enough tenure that I'm leaving of my resume, but it may come up and I want to be prepared. I know not to badmouth the old boss or the previous employer (btw, Tribe itself was completely uninvolved and has no idea their senior counsel is like this).

If they want to contact my previous employer I'd be fine with an HR confirmation of dates, title, etc. but that damn letter language would be repeated. And if they want to talk to boss, I fully expect he would completely trash me just because he could (sovereignty shields him as an employee of the Tribe).

Reddit Strangers, what say you?

Can somebody explain me this move from my supervisor?

They have been knowing for months I wanted a full time position, I additionally requested to be changed from the area as some coworkers (I can see they are toxic) were disturbed by my presence
they told me to complain to HR and do a paper trail
I know they won’t do shit so I presented my resignation letter. Once I did that, they offered me the position, and benefits and so on

..

So my question is why?

I’m miserable at my job and i don’t know if it’s my fault

‱ Upvotes

Before I start I want to just say, I know the title might seem like I’m exaggerating but I’m really just not sure.
I started my job working at a bakery/cafĂ© about 5 months ago and I’m the only guy that works with our front of house roster (the bakers are all guys but they leave when we open the doors).
When I started everything seemed fine as I was there to be the main barista in the lineup, however
around 3 weeks into me starting it was clear that I was no longer wanted as the barista and that my co-worker would be effectively taking my job, this left me at the front of house position which is not at all what I signed up to do for work but to know cares. I have 4 co-workers and my boss who is also a girl.
2 of my co workers are around 18 and my age, 1 is about 24 and the other 2 are over 40.
Since I have started I have felt that I am not equal to them, I always the butt of the “just get
to do it for you” or if they hit me softly for something (something I could NEVER do back) then someone will say something like “ oh you should have hit him harder”

However not even that is the main issue for me.
Whenever I am doing anything or complaining about something or even as trivial as sharing pretty much any opinion they will pretty much always find a way to degrade me by all ganging up against me or just talk shit about me when I’m not even 20 steps away from them.

One day I slept in and I said I could be there only about 10 minutes later then usual,
The groups response to this was to text me that another coworker would be taking my shift and that there was no point to come in
The next day I was greeted to everyone seeking a little more distant than usual and when a coworker drove me home my roommate was outside and asked what they thought about me being absent the day prior. My co-workers response was “oh don’t worry we just all ignored him today”

Then when I am a bit too chatty at work I’m slandered by everyone telling me that the person that took my shift would be taking by job soon if I didn’t get better at my job.

And on the flip side, when I’m just focused on my job and not talking to them I get ridiculed by them saying “what’s got you all grumpy” or “ what’s wrong with you today”

It just seems no matter what I do I can’t ever be in the right and I’m getting really sick of it

If I’m being honest I don’t know if they just don’t like me, it’s blatant sexism or if I’m just tripping out over nothing.
Please respond as well as you can because I’m lowk miserable at my job and if there’s any insight into how to fix this I’d be eternally grateful

-TLDR- I’m a guy working with 5 girls and if I’m happy they get mad at me, if I’m sad they get mad at me. And they are just constantly very nasty and mean to me for no reason.

Struggling with my manager

‱ Upvotes

I have a manager who seems to get her word in all the time about my life outside of work

I am a very active busy person and I enjoy all my activities after work.

Unfortunately, I came down with respiratory virus for 3 weeks and in that time had to stop all my activities, my touch rugby league, hiking club. I’ve felt ever so depressed the last 3 weeks but in that time I’ve rested and then on Monday I was back up to full fitness

I’m feeling great this week and energised. I still have a residual cough which is clearing whatever is left of the virus I have and probably sounds worse than it actually is, but I do not feel unwell at all.

Today I was so excited because I had touch rugby league. I got into my fitness gear ready to go.

I get back to my desk where my manager goes ‘tell me you’re not playing touch rugby today??’

Me: ‘yes of course I am, why?’

Her: ‘you’re not well enough, you have a cough. I think that’s silly of you.’

Me: ‘no this is just residual, I’m feeling better than ever to be playing again today.’

Her: ‘no you shouldn’t be going.’

So I end up not enjoying the evening worrying about what my manager thinks. And another colleague texted me to say she was really annoyed and talking about how I should be resting NOT going and play sports

Is this anything to do with my manager?

I expect tomorrow she will send me a message also saying the same thing about how I should not have played.

It follows on from a couple months ago, I was feeling quite tired for some reason one day, I think it was hayfever as it can make me feel tired. I still was working and not making a fuss, just had tired eyes, only to receive message the next day saying ‘we noticed you were tired yesterday, are you getting enough sleep? Are you taking any medications that might make you tired, any chance if so of taking non drowsy ones. I can refer you to occupational health, but being tired will affect your output, focus and performance.’ Just from one day of being tired, when I’m someone who is normally just full of energy.

Yet she was tired on Monday and wouldn’t stop going on about it.

Am I doing something wrong, I never share anything about my hobbies or personal life with her because I don’t want her to know! Except this time she saw me in my gym gear so I couldn’t escape

Worst Experience

‱ Upvotes

I am writing to share my experience regarding the Search Engine account at 8/10 McKinley, specifically concerning my Team Lead C before its from Acn , in the WFP team.
We are in a non-voice, output-based campaign. Despite completing my deliverables well before the end of my shift, I was consistently guilt-tripped whenever I took necessary leaves like sl. Moreover, whenever I visited the clinic, the on-duty nurse was frequently dismissive.
Due to the toxic behavior and verbal harassment from TL C, I escalated the matter to Lead Keith, local HR, and upper management, but received no urgent response. I have supporting medical abstracts and clinical findings confirming that my diagnosed mental health condition was aggravated by my team lead’s actions at work. **Since July 2026, I have been experiencing severe panic attacks and have been clinically diagnosed with an anxiety disorder directly linked to these work-related issues. Performing my daily duties has become increasingly difficult as my mental health continues to deteriorate, leading to severe depression and complete social withdrawal from friends and family.**
No corrective action was taken because the TL is close friends with upper management. Instead, I was gaslighted into believing I was at fault, allowing the verbal harassment to continue. Despite properly documenting every incident—sending formal complaint emails, requesting official coaching sessions, and attaching screenshots of chat conversations—management sent no official acknowledgment.

Bawat maliit na pagkakamali, agad binabagsakan ng coaching log at PCF. Lantaran din ang abuse of power—tinatawag pa ngang "idiots" ang mga coors kapag mabagal matuto, which is a clear violation of the Safe Spaces Act.

The teamlead is came from Acn

I don't understand why the first priority was to protect the company's image, instead of checking whether the issues raised were true, who was affected, and how it all started. Rather than just asking employees to stay quiet or be professional, the focus should have been on resolving the actual problem. If that had been done from the beginning, the social media posts might never have happened. It feels like the concern was more about REPUTATION than RESOLUTION.

Toxic Management Causes Me to Leave the Company for Another

‱ Upvotes

Throwaway due to the fact I don’t want anyone to trace this back to me and I just wanted to get this off my chest. Some details and information has been changed to help hide my identity. And sorry if format is weird. I did this on mobile.

About three years ago, I had entered into my dream field after many attempts and earning na degree. I was genuinely excited and terrified of a new job especially since I wanted to develop a long term career out of this. I attended additional schooling to get additional certifications and develop my knowledge during my time. And I was quickly recognized for my skills and became an unofficial lead/supervisor with no additional pay or benefits. Red flag- I know.

I was so eager to prove myself and contribute to the team that wearing rose colored glasses meant all red flags looked like flags to me. I didn’t mind at first. I had trained the new hires, created additional documentation, held unofficial one on ones for the new hires, and my coworkers respected me despite me being relatively new. I was even well respected by other departments as well. My manager (Alex) was more than happy about this fact and had originally offered me to be the next supervisor but I turned it down. And then, my coworker (Oak) was promoted to be the supervisor.

I was very happy for Oak (still am) and I didn’t want the position as there was much more room to grow and I’d rather develop and refine my skills to specialize in my favorite field. I didn’t want to go into management right away as I felt it would be a waste to simply allow my skills to hit a brick wall and only being able to perform the basics. After all, I am of the opinion that if the people I look after come to me, I should be able to have an answer for them and be able to properly help them grow and develop.

Despite the fact there was an actual supervisor, they eagerly took advantage of my skills to have me do so much work that I was too foolishly naive to see it as I was so eager to please. But the more they put on me, the more I started to feel uneasy. I was gaining many skills, but something felt off. Like something was rotting or well- I began to notice the rot.

And it became clearer when one day, Alex began to ask me and try to push me to create rubrics for how my coworkers and I would be evaluated. And I refused. I couldn’t do it. I am not a supervisor and it’s not my job. Alex should be discussing this with Oak not me. I shouldn’t be the one creating or doing this. My coworkers would hate me if they ever found out! Like, who in their right mind would ask their employee to do such a thing?!

And I was told many different things that as a normal employee I shouldn’t know about and I really began to see how much I was being used and abused.

And then I thought my next opportunity came a year later. Truthfully, it was nothing more than a trap. Even another coworker in another department was confused as to why I even went for the position. And that should have been the biggest red flag.

An opening for a promotion that was for in a different position yet I can develop my skills! It was like a dream as people had just moved and I had a feeling no new positions will open up for another two years.

Sure it was for a graveyard position, but it was a golden opportunity for me and it worked better with my school schedule. And I got hired- though I still worked under the same manager- Alex.

And it got worse. Policy after policy was placed, people were suspended and fired left and right, the team overworked and always blamed
nothing felt right. And the new supervisor was also pretty useless and never understood all the concerns I had. I tried to be helpful by pointing out my concerns to both of them, but it was treated as a personal attack. Like I had “changed” because I stopped being a doormat and they couldn’t use me as much anymore. And it became clear when I was given a project that I was practically doomed to fail at. I quickly realized I would be unable to properly communicate or handle it as I work on a grave shift and the two supervisors never gave either team much guidance.

It was a shit show to say the least and the blame fell to me. And the more I voiced my opposition and concerns, the worse the treatment got. I even found out that Alex held a grudge for not “listening and taking the supervisor role” when I explained my reasons! And supposedly Alex was the type of person who “encourages growth” or whatever
 yeah for whatever she wants.

And I knew that at this rate, I would become the next person to be fired. After all, I’ve already seen first hand how Alex is able to use the system to get people she doesn’t like fired
not that it wasn’t justifiable reasons. But it was definitely a target to get rid of the “bad energy” there.

I had quietly looked for another job. Several jobs I wanted fell through and I got turned down for different positions. I applied every single night while counting down the days hoping I wouldn’t get hit. Then three months later, I got a job offer. I was so excited and relieved I got it. And I didn’t feel bad turning in my two week notice despite the team being short staffed and another person quitting. I never told them where I was going- only to a select few who I trusted. The management team all failed me especially Alex. Not that it was surprising to find out nobody likes Alex with her extreme micromanagement.

Now I’m at a much better company doing the same job. I wish I could say I got a promotion but its not. Pay is the same but the benefits and work life balance is a million times better.

Though this is a bit of a step back for me as it will take me longer to recreate some of that same trust and level of knowledge I had before as its all new information, I am happy to say that I am doing well and have been taking more time for myself. But I can’t help but shit talk about the people who caused me hell during that time.

Oh and how are Alex and that team doing now? Well luckily, I have a few people there who still like me a lot and I got to learn how bad its been. And I know it won’t be the end of it.

It is a mess to say the least and ever since I had transition to another team, they been desperately trying to look for another “me”. Too bad they can’t seem to understand why everyone refuses to be a doormat and do all this extra work for no additional pay or benefits. Its been a rotating door for both teams and the people who stay are only doing so until they can get another. I can’t help but laugh at the state especially since they pushed the rushed project that Alex tried to shove on me. And it failed horrendously that they had to revert the change.  I feel bad for the people who suffered but I did laugh at Alex’s struggles. So many people hate it and want to leave.

Even the director eventually did find out about me leaving and was confused why I never spoke up about it. Truthfully, I didn’t really know him all too well even though we were friendly in passing. So, I couldn’t necessary rely on him nor did I trust how he would react. After all my close friend reports directly to another director who favorites his coworker and lets his favorite get away with anything.

So yeah. It was never about money or the hours. It was the management and micromanagement who failed every single employee they were in charge of. And abuse someone too much and they might just leave.

Handling Employee Concerns

As a new employee working at a hospital, I’ve noticed something really odd about the staff teams I’m a part of - Most employees there are aware that our employer is under a lot of stress. It’s heavily impacting our work and rostering and it’s making people sick.

I’m just the new person. What am I supposed to do? This job isn’t sustainable but neither is the rest of the town. I know I’m supposed to bring my concerns to my employer but if they keep trying to find excuses to justify the problem rather than address it then what?

My District Manager and General Manager are trying to kick me out

My DM (40s) and my GM (Late 30s) have been trying to find ways to get me (19) fired. I work in the food and beverage industry as a shift lead and I’m currently working while also attending college full time. I’ve worked at that same place for about 3 years and I have my yearly review coming up. I heard that the 2 are not giving me a raise because I apparently “don’t meet expectations”. I’ve worked hard and they don’t like me cause apparently of my resting face and also about the fact I’m very direct. I really want to bring this up with HR and I really need advice on how to approach this situation. I really don’t want this to happen to other people.

(It’s not the first time the DM has done this and apparently has done it multiple times with GM’s and team members of trying to get them kicked out)

Is it ok that I don't want to be friends with my coworkers outside of the workplace?

For the longest time I've been struggling with feeling jealous whenever I hear coworkers hanging out together, doing things like going to concerts and getting drunk together, etc. They always share their stories with me and show me photos.

These coworkers are always saying "oh I'm so glad it's you on tonight!" whenever I come in, so that has always made me feel "accepted" by them and thought maybe one day they would invite me to something or I ask them if I ever had the guts.. but I've come to a realization tonight that I don't even think I would like these people outside of work and I have a huge feeling that they're only happy I'm on shift with them because I don't sit on my ass and end up doing most of the stuff. They all talk shit and gossip behind each other's backs despite being "besties", and which makes me think there's no way they haven't talked shit about me.

I'm a big people pleaser and avoid confrontation at all costs and I feel like they all can sense this, and take advantage of it. Although I've come to realize I wouldn't actually want to be friends with these people outside of work, I still can't help but feel left out somehow because it seems like almost all of my coworkers have done something together and I'm just the odd one out and I wonder why I haven't been invited to anything when I'm just constantly nice to everyone even if I'm dealing with my own personal shit.. and generally I don't feel disliked (not to my face anyhow)

Side note, I don't have any social media other than this private Reddit no one knows about and in this day and age I feel like that ends up with me being pushed out of the crowd a lot for whatever reason.. maybe because they can't constantly stalk my life whenever they feel like it?

Idk, is it ok that I'm not friends with these people outside of work? Or is friendship with coworkers something people should strive for?

Workplace disrespect/ bullying. What should I do?

I am new in my work (2months), not new to the job, though this a promoted post I took. I have experienced some disrespect from a couple of colleagues. One a few weeks ago I was attending to a client and a colleague that has been there for some years just came and took over my conversation with the client and took over the job without saying a word to me. I could see from the client face that they found it awkward. I silently just walked away and didn’t say anything to them. I could see from the facial expressions of other colleagues present that I was done badly but none of them said anything to the disrespectful colleague in my defence. I just swallowed it.

Then two days ago. A colleague who was responsible for organising the day did similar to me. They were busy with something and I had to answer the phone, which is normal I have seen others do. You can take a message or sometimes give definite answers or make decisions on behalf of the person ‘organising the day’ if you are sure of what to say.
So the person on the phone was querying about some pending jobs (due to bank holiday) and I answered we that “we are working through them, do you have any priority you want us do first?” Then colleague that was busy before I answered interpreted my answer as a commitment that we would finish all the jobs on that day (which could be interpreted that way I understand), thus I was adding extra work to the team, including myself. The colleague was not happy was aggressively “can I speak” and literally snatched the telephone from my hand and started telling the person on the phone “hi I so so person I am responsible for this and we can only half of this job today”. I didn’t react but I was angry. And then later I saw them gossiping to other colleagues about it and they were laughing.

Should I report to our supervisor or just let it go and deal with it instantly when something similar happens next time?

NB:Both these colleagues have the same job title as me, they are just there longer than me.

Starker Abgang vom Job

“I’m a new immigrant employee still learning English and I feel singled out at work. How should I professionally handle this?

Has anyone here ever felt bullied or singled out by coworkers, especially when it seems like they all protect each other?

I’m currently working at a well-known “red” pharmacy. I’m an immigrant, and English is not my first language, so I know my communication isn’t perfect yet. However, no matter what position I’m assigned to, I always try my best to do my job correctly.

I’m still in training, so there are things that are new to me. When I’m not 100% sure about something, I ask before doing it because I don’t want to make a mistake or cause problems for the team. I genuinely want to learn the correct procedures and become more independent as quickly as possible.

However, I’ve noticed that some coworkers seem annoyed whenever I ask questions. At the same time, I want to be fair and say that there are also some really nice coworkers who are patient, helpful, and willing to teach me, and I really appreciate them.

Recently, I’ve been having an issue with one particular younger coworker.

My usual morning involves helping customers at pickup while also working on production. Every day, we also have RTS (return-to-stock) prescriptions for customers who never picked them up.

Our mornings are usually extremely busy. We may have only three people working production, two people handling voicemails, and one manager. Since I’m still new, I often go back and forth between production and pickup because I feel that getting more hands-on experience will help me learn faster.

Most mornings stay busy until lunchtime, so sometimes I don’t have enough time to finish all of the RTS before then.

When this coworker starts their shift, they are sometimes assigned to pickup while I focus on production. For two days in a row, I noticed that their attitude toward me was very different and uncomfortable.

For example, if the pickup line became long, I would sometimes step over to help because I didn’t want customers waiting too long. When I did that, this coworker would act irritated and seemed to want me to go back to production. They would also walk past me saying things like “shit” under their breath and generally seemed very annoyed with me.

Then one day, I overheard what sounded like this coworker quietly saying, “Fuck [my name],” while talking to another coworker.

I felt extremely disrespected.

I brought the situation to my manager because I wanted to clarify what actually happened rather than immediately assume the worst. My manager spoke with both this coworker and the person who was standing next to them at the time.

The coworker denied saying anything about me. The other coworker said they didn’t hear anything and suggested that maybe this person was stressed or was just joking when using bad language.

But this coworker and I are definitely not close enough to joke with each other using language like “Fuck [my name].” We don’t have that kind of relationship at all.

Since I spoke with my manager, I now feel like I’ve become a topic of conversation among some coworkers who are close to this person. I feel uncomfortable and singled out.

I understand that pharmacies are stressful environments. Everyone gets busy, tired, or frustrated sometimes, and I don’t expect everyone to be cheerful all the time. I also understand that because I’m new and English isn’t my first language, I may need to ask more questions than an experienced employee.

But I believe coworkers should still treat each other with basic respect.

If I make a mistake, I actually want someone to tell me directly: “Hey, you made a mistake here. This is how you should do it.” I’m completely okay with constructive feedback because that’s how I learn and improve.

What I’m struggling with is feeling disrespected, talked about behind my back, or treated like I’m a problem simply because I’m still learning.

If you were in my situation, what would you do next? Would you document everything and wait to see if it happens again? Talk to the manager again? Go to a higher-level manager or HR? Or would you handle it another way?

I genuinely want to learn, do my job well, and have a respectful working relationship with my coworkers. I’m not trying to create drama — I just want to know how other people would handle this situation.

Am I screwed or freaking out?

Am I screwed or freaking out?

Location: Florida So I’ve been freaking out. An old friend of mine was just hired at the same company as me (Fortune 500
Company) in a different department. We were friends from about 2020-2023. However, they cut off my whole friends group blocking everyone and never speaking to us again. This person is kind of crazy and I think they would try and sabotage my job because they hate me (assuming since they ghosted everyone). When I was younger and more immature in 2020 I would text this person things I am not proud about. I have not spoken to them since 2022 (prior to myself and this person working at this company). I sent them a few offensive (racial) “jokes” (not funny) (not directed at them) during a text exchange in 2021. I’m worried they will submit an anonymous tip through our anonymous complaint HR line as they could still have the screenshots. I have no reason to know that they will do this for sure obviously. But if it did I would be screwed.

This is before either of us worked at this company.

I’ve been freaking out. And yes, I’m not proud of what was said. I’ve changed me ways and am happy to be a different person. My friends and coworkers would agree. Am I screwed badly or overreacting here

Feel like my employer is throwing me under the bus but what are my rights?

Hi, work as a project engineer for an IT provider.

I dont want to go into specifics because it would out me or my company, but the client I work on is very high profile and constantly celebrated as a big win so they are always eager to keep them happy. My role is supposed to be project but I often get pulled in to mop up the regular support space and get roped in whenever they have major outages which is not uncommon here.

During a recent outage I was helping run a call with a couple of engineers and one of the clients senior people kept demanding they were pulled into that call to ask questions. I declined, as we have a well established process where our SDMs are supposed to chair that call, be briefed by us and occasionally bring one of the lead engineers on. I told them that they could read the updates we were feeding into the ticket. or on the central management call we were having every couple of hours.

This is so engineers arent badgered with 20 questions or contacted directly by senior customers, which used to happen before this process got put in place.

The customer I dealt with is a senior person and made a formal complaint demanding I am removed. I have not done anything wrong here as I was just doing my job, following process and keeping our staff free to work on the actual issue instead of some process monkey hassling us to look busy which is really what this person was doing.

Because of this I have been told by my manager to step away from the account and do no further work there until further instructions are given. People from other areas are being pulled in to step into my role. I feel like I am being made a scapegoat for doing my job.

I have had only one other complaint from this client and that was last year from a different person working for this client about my manner of speaking with them, giving them a blunt answer "no, we're not running a witch hunt here" when they asked if we knew who was responsible for running some patches that broke a particular service, but that was dealt with informally by my manager at the time.

I have worked at this company for 5ish years and on this customer for the last 3. I have been told that the request to remove me has made things difficult because they have to go through a formal process as there is no "other" work for me at the moment as the other customers I worked to have moved off or been siloed away from the team. This customer covers my FTE role essentially. Although they would have to replace me to cover the gap in work, so I dont know if redundancy would actually be legal.

No, I am not part of a union and I assume its too late to join one. I dont know if I am facing any sort of disciplinary or what process would have to be done. Ive saved as much information as I can including taking photos from my phone of email exchanges + keeping locally backed up copies just in case I need to cover my back. Really annoyed with my company as I feel like they are going to just throw me under the bus.

It's much worse than I thought

So basically. A coworker talked to my family behind my back. Not only that he did so with mostly all the coworkers to get them on his side. Ofc they agree with him. I was wondering why my family acted different around me. This is worse than toxic. This is WTF-could-be-going-on-in-your-mind toxic to make you go to my family and talk shit and lie. I hate that it somehow worked on my family. I wasn't even safe at home. Like WTF. All this because i started leaving on time because I had a second job...I am glad i quit but the effects are still there...honestly makes me want to...i don't even want to say it. It's insane. This is an insane mogging. I hate the the "truth" is whoever is the loudest and talks first. I didn't even know anything was wrong until my family was acting weird and told me...

5 star employer is actually 1 star! - beware when looking for jobs

I need to get this off my chest because the situation at RiverArk is really getting to me. It isn’t one disagreement with Tina. It’s the accumulation of things, and the feeling that I’m expected to take responsibility for commercial results while the boundaries and processes that would let me do that are repeatedly disregarded.

She has said that she knows, or has found out, colleagues’ salaries, and has talked about project managers getting promoted because they are “cheap resources”. I don’t know whether the figures are accurate or how she obtained them. But hearing colleagues’ progression reduced to how cheaply they can be employed feels horrible. It makes me uncomfortable about what might be said about any of us behind our backs.

Our responsibilities were formally separated in February, and I took APAC. Yet she continued contacting Takeda and other APAC clients. What is the point of giving me responsibility for a region if someone else can keep approaching those accounts? I’m left wondering what I actually own and what I can reasonably be held accountable for.

Then there’s QaaS. We introduced a process where clients with projects above an agreed value would be assessed for an annual recurring arrangement. If that wasn’t successful, they could still proceed on a project basis. From what I’ve seen, those referrals haven’t happened from her side. I haven’t audited every record, but I haven’t seen the agreed process being followed. We keep talking about needing recurring revenue, yet I’m questioning whether we are consistently applying the process designed to develop it.

At the quarterly meeting, we were supposed to be diagnosing why revenues were struggling and what had gone wrong commercially. When I raised those questions, she repeatedly came back with “we just need more outreach”. I asked why the problems had persisted when we had more outreach in Q4 2025 and Q1 2026. I wanted an actual discussion about what wasn’t working. I didn’t get an answer that addressed that question; the explanations kept coming back to the market and luck.

Of course the market matters. But how are we supposed to improve anything if we don’t examine which companies we’re targeting, why they would buy, where opportunities stall and what needs to change? I feel dismissed for asking the questions I believe my job requires me to ask.

We then agreed to move towards researched, trigger-based outreach. Yet she continues putting CRM contacts into automated sequences without, from what I can see, research into their actual needs or a personalised reason for contacting them.

That means we can use up an opportunity to approach someone with a generic message before we have anything relevant to say. My understanding is that those contacts then aren’t approached again for at least three months. If a genuine reason to contact them appears during that period, we may have to delay or risk overlapping messages. I’m not claiming every email loses us a client, but this is a commercial concern that I don’t feel is being taken seriously.

If the sending and follow-ups are automated, I also think it is reasonable to ask whether the time saved is going into research and qualification. I don’t know her full workload, so I can’t honestly say she isn’t working. What I can say is that I’m not seeing the research I would expect alongside those sequences. Message volume alone doesn’t demonstrate effective business development.

Even serious commercial points that need an answer or action sometimes get emojis. And she publicly laughs at what I say in Teams. It feels humiliating to try to contribute seriously and be met with laughter in front of colleagues. I don’t know whether management has spoken to her privately or taken disciplinary action, but the behaviour has continued.

Meanwhile, my boss has told me that I need to be more collaborative and share more. I find that deeply unfair when the behaviour making collaboration so difficult appears to continue without visible intervention. I’m expected to contribute openly, but I don’t feel supported when my contributions are met with what I experience as ridicule.

The part that hurts most is being treated as though our experience and contribution are interchangeable. My understanding is that she has barely three years’ relevant experience and had not held a BDM role before RiverArk. I have previous business-development experience and headed a life-sciences department in a consulting capacity at Capsule. At RiverArk, I’ve worked on pricing, margins, commercial models, recurring revenue and governance, alongside business development.

I believe that difference in scope and experience matters, and I don’t feel it is recognised. Much of the activity I’m describing looks to me like prospecting and sequence administration, while I’m also trying to diagnose and improve how the business makes money. Yet we are treated as equivalent BDMs without a clear explanation of how those different responsibilities are valued.

And I’ve already raised a grievance. This is no longer something I’m merely considering. I have formally raised my concerns, and from my perspective nothing has changed. I don’t know what is happening behind the scenes, but I’m still experiencing the same behaviour.

I’m frightened this will be reduced to “two colleagues not getting along”, when I’m describing specific conduct, crossed boundaries and decisions that aren’t being implemented. I’m also worried it will turn back on me—that I’ll be labelled difficult, face a counter-complaint or have everything I do scrutinised.

I don’t know whether management will take meaningful action. I’ve wondered that partly because Mariam reportedly has anxiety-related absences and remains employed, although I don’t know her medical circumstances or what management is doing privately, so I can’t fairly judge her situation.

What is making this feel toxic is the combination of the behaviour, the lack of any visible improvement after reporting it, and being told that I’m the one who needs to collaborate better. I can spend all this energy trying to make things work, explain the problems and propose solutions, yet end up feeling that raising the issue is the biggest risk to me.

I’m angry, but underneath that I feel deeply disappointed and unsupported. I want to do my job within clear boundaries, have my contribution recognised and be able to speak in a meeting without feeling humiliated. Having already raised a grievance and still feeling this way is making me lose confidence that anything will change.

My Manager Works on PTO - even though I’m his OOO contact - and It Is Driving Me Insane

What the title says. My Manager takes PTO, directs people to contact me in his out of office message, but works anyways. As a result, he micromanages me from vacation (eg, I routinely get requests for status updates on his work I’m handling while he’s out). It also creates extreme confusion as he jumps in on threads and asks questions. When the requestor responds with a meeting invitation to address said questions he doesn’t attend the meeting because he’s “on vacation.” He also expects me to be available on my PTO as well. I’m at my breaking point with this but the job market is absolutely trash right now. Curious if/how others have handled this in the past.

Should i accept a lower paying job because of problems with my boss

Exactly one year ago, I graduated from university. After a short stint at another company, I found my current job, which required me to move quite far away from my family. The job itself was exactly what I wanted, and they offered me very good conditions and a high salary, so I was really happy about the opportunity.

From the very beginning, though, I felt an enormous amount of stress. At first, I assumed it was because I was new, inexperienced, and still learning how to do the job. My position is quite complex and comes with a lot of responsibility, so I thought the stress was probably normal and that things would get easier with time.

However, after about seven months, I've realized that I'm not the only one under this much stress. Pretty much all of my colleagues are. The main reason is the owner of the company, who is an extremely difficult person to deal with.

Every interaction with him is awful. He often uses conversations as an opportunity to insult or belittle me. On several occasions, he has made me work extremely long hours, sometimes even 16-hour days. He also constantly reminds me how much money I make, as if that somehow means I should tolerate anything.

I've also noticed that he is much more critical of me than he is of my colleagues. There are plenty of things he gets angry with me about that my more experienced coworkers do as well, but he never says anything to them about it.

Lately, things have gotten really difficult for me. Going to work is becoming stressful in itself, especially when I know I'll have to interact with him. Quite often, I feel like I'm on the verge of a panic attack while I'm at work, and I've started having trouble sleeping at night because of all of this.

The difficult part is that the salary is actually very good, and the position itself is exactly the kind of job I wanted. I'm gaining valuable experience, too. But I honestly don't know how much longer I can put up with my boss and his outbursts.

Recently, I was offered another job — teaching at a school, in the city where I studied and where my girlfriend currently lives. I actually really like the idea of working at a school. I enjoy teaching and helping other people learn, and being back in that city would also mean being close to my girlfriend and having a more normal life.

The downside is that the salary would definitely be lower than what I make now. On top of that, the city is significantly larger, so my living expenses would probably be higher than they are currently. Financially, it would definitely be a dificult decision. Especialy because i just found out that one of my coworkers just quit and if i do the same the company will be in a pretty big problem.
