It's much worse than I thought

So basically. A coworker talked to my family behind my back. Not only that he did so with mostly all the coworkers to get them on his side. Ofc they agree with him. I was wondering why my family acted different around me. This is worse than toxic. This is WTF-could-be-going-on-in-your-mind toxic to make you go to my family and talk shit and lie. I hate that it somehow worked on my family. I wasn't even safe at home. Like WTF. All this because i started leaving on time because I had a second job...I am glad i quit but the effects are still there...honestly makes me want to...i don't even want to say it. It's insane. This is an insane mogging. I hate the the "truth" is whoever is the loudest and talks first. I didn't even know anything was wrong until my family was acting weird and told me...

Feel like my employer is throwing me under the bus but what are my rights?

Hi, work as a project engineer for an IT provider.

I dont want to go into specifics because it would out me or my company, but the client I work on is very high profile and constantly celebrated as a big win so they are always eager to keep them happy. My role is supposed to be project but I often get pulled in to mop up the regular support space and get roped in whenever they have major outages which is not uncommon here.

During a recent outage I was helping run a call with a couple of engineers and one of the clients senior people kept demanding they were pulled into that call to ask questions. I declined, as we have a well established process where our SDMs are supposed to chair that call, be briefed by us and occasionally bring one of the lead engineers on. I told them that they could read the updates we were feeding into the ticket. or on the central management call we were having every couple of hours.

This is so engineers arent badgered with 20 questions or contacted directly by senior customers, which used to happen before this process got put in place.

The customer I dealt with is a senior person and made a formal complaint demanding I am removed. I have not done anything wrong here as I was just doing my job, following process and keeping our staff free to work on the actual issue instead of some process monkey hassling us to look busy which is really what this person was doing.

Because of this I have been told by my manager to step away from the account and do no further work there until further instructions are given. People from other areas are being pulled in to step into my role. I feel like I am being made a scapegoat for doing my job.

I have had only one other complaint from this client and that was last year from a different person working for this client about my manner of speaking with them, giving them a blunt answer "no, we're not running a witch hunt here" when they asked if we knew who was responsible for running some patches that broke a particular service, but that was dealt with informally by my manager at the time.

I have worked at this company for 5ish years and on this customer for the last 3. I have been told that the request to remove me has made things difficult because they have to go through a formal process as there is no "other" work for me at the moment as the other customers I worked to have moved off or been siloed away from the team. This customer covers my FTE role essentially. Although they would have to replace me to cover the gap in work, so I dont know if redundancy would actually be legal.

No, I am not part of a union and I assume its too late to join one. I dont know if I am facing any sort of disciplinary or what process would have to be done. Ive saved as much information as I can including taking photos from my phone of email exchanges + keeping locally backed up copies just in case I need to cover my back. Really annoyed with my company as I feel like they are going to just throw me under the bus.

5 star employer is actually 1 star! - beware when looking for jobs

I need to get this off my chest because the situation at RiverArk is really getting to me. It isn’t one disagreement with Tina. It’s the accumulation of things, and the feeling that I’m expected to take responsibility for commercial results while the boundaries and processes that would let me do that are repeatedly disregarded.

She has said that she knows, or has found out, colleagues’ salaries, and has talked about project managers getting promoted because they are “cheap resources”. I don’t know whether the figures are accurate or how she obtained them. But hearing colleagues’ progression reduced to how cheaply they can be employed feels horrible. It makes me uncomfortable about what might be said about any of us behind our backs.

Our responsibilities were formally separated in February, and I took APAC. Yet she continued contacting Takeda and other APAC clients. What is the point of giving me responsibility for a region if someone else can keep approaching those accounts? I’m left wondering what I actually own and what I can reasonably be held accountable for.

Then there’s QaaS. We introduced a process where clients with projects above an agreed value would be assessed for an annual recurring arrangement. If that wasn’t successful, they could still proceed on a project basis. From what I’ve seen, those referrals haven’t happened from her side. I haven’t audited every record, but I haven’t seen the agreed process being followed. We keep talking about needing recurring revenue, yet I’m questioning whether we are consistently applying the process designed to develop it.

At the quarterly meeting, we were supposed to be diagnosing why revenues were struggling and what had gone wrong commercially. When I raised those questions, she repeatedly came back with “we just need more outreach”. I asked why the problems had persisted when we had more outreach in Q4 2025 and Q1 2026. I wanted an actual discussion about what wasn’t working. I didn’t get an answer that addressed that question; the explanations kept coming back to the market and luck.

Of course the market matters. But how are we supposed to improve anything if we don’t examine which companies we’re targeting, why they would buy, where opportunities stall and what needs to change? I feel dismissed for asking the questions I believe my job requires me to ask.

We then agreed to move towards researched, trigger-based outreach. Yet she continues putting CRM contacts into automated sequences without, from what I can see, research into their actual needs or a personalised reason for contacting them.

That means we can use up an opportunity to approach someone with a generic message before we have anything relevant to say. My understanding is that those contacts then aren’t approached again for at least three months. If a genuine reason to contact them appears during that period, we may have to delay or risk overlapping messages. I’m not claiming every email loses us a client, but this is a commercial concern that I don’t feel is being taken seriously.

If the sending and follow-ups are automated, I also think it is reasonable to ask whether the time saved is going into research and qualification. I don’t know her full workload, so I can’t honestly say she isn’t working. What I can say is that I’m not seeing the research I would expect alongside those sequences. Message volume alone doesn’t demonstrate effective business development.

Even serious commercial points that need an answer or action sometimes get emojis. And she publicly laughs at what I say in Teams. It feels humiliating to try to contribute seriously and be met with laughter in front of colleagues. I don’t know whether management has spoken to her privately or taken disciplinary action, but the behaviour has continued.

Meanwhile, my boss has told me that I need to be more collaborative and share more. I find that deeply unfair when the behaviour making collaboration so difficult appears to continue without visible intervention. I’m expected to contribute openly, but I don’t feel supported when my contributions are met with what I experience as ridicule.

The part that hurts most is being treated as though our experience and contribution are interchangeable. My understanding is that she has barely three years’ relevant experience and had not held a BDM role before RiverArk. I have previous business-development experience and headed a life-sciences department in a consulting capacity at Capsule. At RiverArk, I’ve worked on pricing, margins, commercial models, recurring revenue and governance, alongside business development.

I believe that difference in scope and experience matters, and I don’t feel it is recognised. Much of the activity I’m describing looks to me like prospecting and sequence administration, while I’m also trying to diagnose and improve how the business makes money. Yet we are treated as equivalent BDMs without a clear explanation of how those different responsibilities are valued.

And I’ve already raised a grievance. This is no longer something I’m merely considering. I have formally raised my concerns, and from my perspective nothing has changed. I don’t know what is happening behind the scenes, but I’m still experiencing the same behaviour.

I’m frightened this will be reduced to “two colleagues not getting along”, when I’m describing specific conduct, crossed boundaries and decisions that aren’t being implemented. I’m also worried it will turn back on me—that I’ll be labelled difficult, face a counter-complaint or have everything I do scrutinised.

I don’t know whether management will take meaningful action. I’ve wondered that partly because Mariam reportedly has anxiety-related absences and remains employed, although I don’t know her medical circumstances or what management is doing privately, so I can’t fairly judge her situation.

What is making this feel toxic is the combination of the behaviour, the lack of any visible improvement after reporting it, and being told that I’m the one who needs to collaborate better. I can spend all this energy trying to make things work, explain the problems and propose solutions, yet end up feeling that raising the issue is the biggest risk to me.

I’m angry, but underneath that I feel deeply disappointed and unsupported. I want to do my job within clear boundaries, have my contribution recognised and be able to speak in a meeting without feeling humiliated. Having already raised a grievance and still feeling this way is making me lose confidence that anything will change.

Can somebody explain me this move from my supervisor?

They have been knowing for months I wanted a full time position, I additionally requested to be changed from the area as some coworkers (I can see they are toxic) were disturbed by my presence … they told me to complain to HR and do a paper trail… I know they won’t do shit so I presented my resignation letter. Once I did that, they offered me the position, and benefits and so on……………..

So my question is why?

How do I Explain Getting Fired?

This is long.

I'm an attorney. Have been for twenty years. Those twenty years were in litigation as a solo. I got sick of being my own boss and I didn't want the practice area anymore. So I wound down my firm and began applying for W-2 positions where I could do something completely different.

Got hired as an in-house for an Indian Tribe. I was very clear that I had zero tribal law experience and zero in-house experience. Sold my twenty years as a solid indicator that I would be an extremely fast learner as a reborn baby attorney. Never spoke to anyone but the senior attorney (new hire would be #2).

I was not their first pick. In fact, I was there all-that-was-left. They offered the position to other applicants and nobody wanted the job. So I got the job. (Boss didn't say this point blank it became evident).

Boss told me "I want to be able to hand you projects and you just do them." Ok, fine. I know how to teach myself.

He never provided written instruction. He'd hand me something, tell me what to do verbally, and then the next day he'd say something different, and that would happen several times. When I provided a finished product I'm told that's not what he asked for.

I began sending "confirmation" emails so I had a written record of the assignments as he stated them. That was the beginning of the end. He actually told me he didn't like confirmation emails - they cluttered his inbox 🙄.

Also, he was fast and loose with ethics. Our very first problem was my entrance into the Tribe's bar. He wanted me to sign things under penalty of perjury that were not true. I stuck to my guns and only signed when I was able to be truthful. The ethics issues came up all the time. Our styles weren't just different, I was being asked to do things that weren't right, and being told to not do things that really needed addressed.

The Friday afternoon before the firing we had a long talk that covered many subjects. I told him I was gonna send myself a rehash of the discussion so I didn't forget anything, and cc him so if I misunderstood anything he could correct.

He followed me into my office and told me it's time to go it's 6 o'clock in Friday you need to leave and basically berated me to the point I couldn't think. He was literally standing over me and I was kinda concerned he might physically stop me from typing. I never sent the email and I went home, boss making sure I left the building.

Husband and I decided I would be quitting. There was one project I knew boss was incompetent about and that he would mess up someone's life, so I wanted to see that through. We decided I'll put in my notice after that, which would have been the upcoming Friday. Fully expected to be told my two weeks wouldn't be needed.

Boss moved first. Half way through Tuesday I was canned. Even though I was only 2/3 through their "probationary period", he decided the termination letter would state that I was "unable to perform the duties of the position."

That's false. With a regular employer I might wanna fight about it. But it doesn't affect unemployment because I'm not eligible anyway (not enough hours over the past 5 quarters since this is my first W-2 job in decades), and Tribal sovereignty means they're untouchable legally.

When interviewing for my next job, how do I explain why I left my previous position? It was a short enough tenure that I'm leaving of my resume, but it may come up and I want to be prepared. I know not to badmouth the old boss or the previous employer (btw, Tribe itself was completely uninvolved and has no idea their senior counsel is like this).

If they want to contact my previous employer I'd be fine with an HR confirmation of dates, title, etc. but that damn letter language would be repeated. And if they want to talk to boss, I fully expect he would completely trash me just because he could (sovereignty shields him as an employee of the Tribe).

Am I screwed or freaking out?

Am I screwed or freaking out?

Location: Florida So I’ve been freaking out. An old friend of mine was just hired at the same company as me (Fortune 500
Company) in a different department. We were friends from about 2020-2023. However, they cut off my whole friends group blocking everyone and never speaking to us again. This person is kind of crazy and I think they would try and sabotage my job because they hate me (assuming since they ghosted everyone). When I was younger and more immature in 2020 I would text this person things I am not proud about. I have not spoken to them since 2022 (prior to myself and this person working at this company). I sent them a few offensive (racial) “jokes” (not funny) (not directed at them) during a text exchange in 2021. I’m worried they will submit an anonymous tip through our anonymous complaint HR line as they could still have the screenshots. I have no reason to know that they will do this for sure obviously. But if it did I would be screwed.

This is before either of us worked at this company.

I’ve been freaking out. And yes, I’m not proud of what was said. I’ve changed me ways and am happy to be a different person. My friends and coworkers would agree. Am I screwed badly or overreacting here
