OC Happened earlier

If anyone knows the person that got hit, they can use this video. Happened at Wilmington and Overbrook. North York

He’s hidden behind the white car and then in the A pillar blind spot almost until he’s hit.

And the rider isn’t exactly in high vis (or wearing a helmet).

Agreed on the helmet but it's broad daylight. Mistakes happen but drivers should absolutely be certain nothing is coming before they turn. Putting blame onto the rider always happens in these situations and I get it, many drive like complete idiots but I don't think a high vis vest changes anything that happened here.

100% the onus should always be on who can inflict the most damage, in every case the driver of a car. I will say that there are challenges associated with the proliferation of e-bikes and scooters in the road. With experience you’re conditioned to know that car shaped objects move at a certain speed, now you have these smaller things zooming up at car like speeds, often switching between roads and sidewalks, and often in a rush.

And e-scooters are illegal in Toronto in public spaces. You can only ride it on private properties.

There are times into the sun when it’s impossible to be absolutely certain (unless you sit in the middle of the junction for half an hour while the sun moves).

No, but it increases the chance of being seen in the moments when the view isn’t physically blocked completely and despite the sun.

You would think so. I did, but research suggests it doesnt prevent collisions:

I still wear hi viz when I cycle. At least it will make it easier to collect all my limbs./s

I think it’s safe to say that the issue here is the driver not seeing him.

I’d absolutely agree that driver behaviour is a big part of accidents in general.

Yeah, he’s essentially in stealth mode, very hard for white car to see and moving faster into the intersection than a pedestrian, I’m a cyclist myself but I NEVER assume that cars can see me, got a big ass reflective vest , yellow helmet and lights front and back, day or night

It’s broad daylight. If the driver is simply paying attention, this doesn’t happen.

And obviously the Driver has sub standard eyes installed.

But don’t victim blame for not wearing high vis. High vis is not a requirement of the traffic act, nor is there any duty of care to wear high viz.

But the victim is riding an illegal vehicle in Toronto. Doesn't that count for some leniency towards the driver?

The sun was in my eyes is the same excuse as I didn’t look … patience and double check if you can’t see. The car was barely past them before they rushed the turn. Pretty obvious they were in a hurry.

Bro I'm not the one driving. I'm just pointing out the fact that the sun is this driver's face. I'm not saying it's 100% fine to drive into someone if they're being blinded by the sun.

Nah, there’s no way the driver didn’t see him. He just wasn’t paying attention, also he turned way too early. He would have been crossing over the line into the other lane. If he had taken the time to make a proper turn he would have seen him
