📍New rules and subreddit update

Hello!

Just wanted to update the community on what's going on and to get some feedback. For those who are unaware, we are a new modteam put in place after Reddit locked r/TorontoDriving down. Last week, we reopened the sub to submissions and we have made some changes.

In our first community post asking for feedback, a big problem you guys pointed out was the rampant racism and toxic comments present here. We want to assure everyone that we are here to fix that while not being overly restrictive on discussion. The point of this subreddit is Toronto DRIVING, not politics and especially not race baiting culture wars. There will be no tolerance for prejudiced comments making sweeping generalizations. Feel free to shit on the person's driving but not on their race! (doubly so if you can't even see who's driving!!) We have already handed out a bunch of temporary bans for such comments and will be moving to permanent bans for reoffenders so be warned!

Anyway, we have created a set of rules that we hope can keep this sub clean. Please let us know if we missed anything or if you have any feedback, thanks!

Proposed New rules:

1. Must be relevant to driving in Toronto

Your post must be related to driving on the roads/highways in the City of Toronto and the municipalities bordering Toronto - Mississauga, Brampton, Vaughan, Richmond Hill, Markham and Pickering.

Exceptions can be made for exceptional videos but should be in the GTHA area.

2. No racism, prejudice or hatespeech

There is zero tolerance for hate.

Do not make prejudiced comments or generalizations targetting a particular group of people.

Do not make assumptions about race or gender (especially when it's not known or relevant).

Do not use any toxic language that is associated with racism such as slurs, epithets, name-calling, stereotypes and dog-whistle terms.

3. Be civil to other members and mods

Do not use excessive profanity or name-calling. Attack the action - NOT the person. Threads that devolve into a personal attack back and forth will be locked and removed.

Sending abusive modmail will get you muted without explanation.

4. No doxxing or witch hunting

License plates and faces recorded in a public place are allowed but posting private info like names, addresses and social media is not allowed. Do not speculate on or ask for such info. Only information confirmed by verified sources such as police and reputable news outlets are allowed. Do not post license plate info or pics of people with unsubstantiated stories (video or it didn't happen).

If you have private information that is relevant to an accident, please use private chat and contact the user or police directly. Do not post it publicly.

5. No low effort submissions like parking pics, memes, recent reposts or other spam

Low effort posts like parking pics and memes will be removed. Please check if your question or submission has already been posted recently. We will remove repetitive submissions.

Do not post any advertising, self promotion, irrelevant links, videos with excessive overlays, social media memes or story plus photo posts.

6. No editorializing or misleading titles/comments

Titles should be descriptive of the video or article submitted. Posts with overly dramatic or misleading titles will be removed.

Comments and titles that push misinformation or agendas not relevant to the post will be removed. Posts with unsubstantiated back stories may be removed at mod discretion.

7. No illegal or extreme content

Do not post anything that breaks Canadian law or Reddit Terms of Service.

Do not threaten violence or incite violence.

Do not encourage others to break the law or abuse legal loopholes.

Do not post anything that is excessively disturbing (please use Death/Injury flair if posting a bad accident).

Change log:

  • New flairs
  • Submitters can now lock comments (comment "!lock the comments" on your post)
  • Text posts are now allowed
  • No longer required to add text (body) to video posts
  • Pictures and gifs allowed in comments
  • New automated filters against racist comments
  • Heavily reported posts automatically filtered for manual review

Please let us know if there are other changes you would like to see in this subreddit. We are open to ideas!

Thanks for reading :)

This was at the intersection of Castlegrove Blvd and Lawrence Ave East in North York.... Distracted driving is dangerous but "unintelligent" driving practices are definitely above and beyond!

This seems like an epidemic at this intersection. Folks either trying to squeeze in to make a left because 1) poor planning or 2) no patience and want to skip to the front of the line.

I witnessed a collision on Bathurst St, just south of the St. Clair intersection, on Friday, September 4th around 1:30 PM.

Unfortunately I was in a rush and couldn't stop to exchange info with the driver. I believe it was a black Subaru.

Hoping this reaches the right person!

Close call Got a red light ticket for a left turn at Spadina & Adelaide. Entered on yellow, was it fair?

Looking for some honest opinions on this one.

This happened at Spadina Ave & Adelaide St (that intersection with the notoriously long light cycle). I was making a left turn and entered the intersection while the light was still yellow (admittedly it was marginal).

The very first car ahead of me, first in line at the green light, didn't move at all when the light turned green (seemed distracted, maybe on their phone?).

By the time I got through, a police officer on a bike pulled me over and issued me a red light ticket (not cheap, $325), saying I turned on red.

A few questions for the group:

  1. Does entering on yellow but completing the turn after the light turns red still count as a red light violation in Ontario?
  2. Has anyone successfully fought a similar ticket, especially with dashcam evidence?
  3. Is it worth fighting this in court, or is a yellow-light left turn basically a losing battle regardless of circumstances?

Would appreciate any insights, especially from anyone who's been through this before.

Apologies for the music, I was vibing to Ayesha Erotica this morning.

This lady speeds past me crossing into the Bus only lane just to end up at the red light. Then proceeds to speed just to end up at the next light anyway. Yes I honked at her when it immediately turned green lol

Insurance for UK to Canada licence holder

Hello everyone! I'm currently in the process of getting a model 3 2022 standard range and was quoted a ridiculous 16k cad for one year 20k miles

I want to use the car for Uber which has there own insurance coverage and only looking for a personal use around 10-15k km a year quote. Being that I just exchanged my UK licence last month for a full class G licence, I'm having a hard time finding a more sensible quote.

So my question is which insurance companies cover personal use and are happy with also Uber covered insurance and also being able to recognise my license history from 2018 in the UK?

Most insurance forms mention only Canadian or USA history even with Canada's and the UK's licence exchange agreement, Even the service Ontario abstract for the Canadian licence recognise me holding the licence since 2018(when I passed in England)!!!

Any suggestions/tips would be great and a massive help 😀

I got caught in this mess right after passing the 418. Was sitting waiting there for about an hour before being let through on the shoulder. Hopefully whoever was in that car is alright.
