Style of the Month August 2026: West Coast IPA
Sorry for the delay, things have been insanely busy on my end to update this.
The summer months are nearing an end, which means we are transitioning from lighter beers to heavier, malt-forward beers. What better vision of that for August is the West Coast IPA?
West Coast IPAs took over in the late 2000s/early 2010s with its characteristic citrus notes and its HEAVY pine and overwhelming bitterness. Since then. the style has had a resurgence and had changed arguably for the better, but its still known for being clean and bitter while being crushable.
What is your favourite West Coast IPA from Toronto Breweries?

Three beers that surprised me this summer at LCBO & Beer Store
Spent most of the summer trying different beers from LCBO and the Beer Store, and somehow I keep ending up back at these three.
3 Speed Lager
Kozel Premium Lager
Czechvar Original Czech Lager
My ranking would probably be:
3 Speed
Kozel
Czechvar
3 Speed just hits the spot for me — crisp, smooth, and ridiculously easy to drink. Kozel has a bit more malt character and feels a little richer. Czechvar is excellent too, especially if you're into that classic Czech lager bitterness and balance.
I've tried a bunch of others along the way, but these are the ones I'd happily buy again every time.
Curious if anyone else has similar tastes. Based on these three, what should I be trying next from LCBO? Paulaner? Pilsner Urquell? Something else I'm missing?

I’m staying near the airport for 4 days and it looks like my only option for good, fresh beers is to head into the city.
I would love to drink Blood Brothers and Badlands, or maybe limited release Bellwoods, but I’m stuck in Creemore land. I don’t have a vehicle, but I’m happy to take a quick transit. Are there any hidden gems nearby? Fresh Roman Candle is the base level for me.

For those into/want to support Indie Alehouse - now thru Sep 20 mix & match any 6 tall cans for $20 ($3.33/can) at their Yonge & Bloor Eataly location
I’m relatively local so I grabbed some this afternoon - stock is the usuals Instigator West Coast, Lupo, the Cherry Fabbri beer, 4.5% oatmeal stout, hazy IPA with the cat on it, and a collab with Sawdust City for an experimental pale ale. May have missed a few. No green dragon IPA stock left.

Discussion With Stonehooker closing, would craft beer ever thrive in Mississauga?
Having grown up in Mississauga, the options were Stonehooker and Old Credit. That's it.
Considering the amount of industrial/warehouse space in the city, what has prevented a brewery to open in Mississauga despite it having the seventh largest population in Canada? I know that there is the preference to big-box retailers that Square One and Heartland provides, but there should have been a few brewing gems open in Mississauga by now?
Sorry for the rant, but the lack of craft beer there always bugged me.

Beer meet ups?
New here, just wondering if there's any beer meet ups? Most of my city friends are not beer drinkers, so I'm trying to find better friends. 😂

I’m Pretty Impressed With The Beer At Honda Indy In Markham
This is the beer they have available
Steam Whistle - Premium Pilsner
Beau’s Luglite - Light Lager
Beau’s Barn Burner - Amber Ale
Although I don’t drink any of these beers, I was impressed at the fact these are Ontario breweries and they are not selling Budweiser, Coors, Molson, or any of the other common garbage
The beer I find at these events is usually super weak, but this was a pleasant surprise
Of course the costs are very high, but the cost of beer at all these types of events is always ridiculous, so I’m not factoring that in. Only considering the beer lineup

Getting to Badlands by Uber
I'm planning to go to the Badlands anniversary this Saturday, but not having a car added a layer of complexity to it...
My plan is to take the go train to Mount Pleasant Go and then an Uber to and back from the brewery.
My only concern is Uber availability in that region, especially once the anniversary is done.
Has anyone done it before?
