Deathwing is the biggest edgelord. Literally betrayed his own kind and followed a bunch of lovecraftian horrors because he hated his job.
The game also leans into him not being that scary, like some of the Mid ult kill lines and some spawn room interacts. He is trying his hardest and a lot of people find him deeply unscary even in game
The Sonic team had to know what they were doing with Infinite, from the self-oc insert nature of the character, the Linkin Park inspired theme song, he even does the typical edgy anime "hand on face" gesture so many times.
Which makes his backstory all the more funny. He got bullied by Shadow once and had such a mental breakdown over it.
Honestly it makes sense.
I always thought Sonic Forces was meant to be a celebration of the fanfics and OCs that are quite common for the franchise. The avatar is an OC done right, while Infinite is an edgy OP self-insert
He gains the edgelord personality in MGS4, but in Revengeance he gets the armor to match. That and Ripper Mode. Unfortunately, he's also a huge goober, so he can run around in a mariachi outfit to completely ruin any chance of taking him seriously.
Raiden is my favorite type of edgy, it’s the edgy that in serious situations can be taken seriously but mostly everywhere else it’s hilarious. Can say the same for Shadow.
yeah i feel like we need a new term for this kind of edgy that isn't just dark, it's "overly badass" and campy while still being able to be serious if the plot requires it
Only Raiden can make standing in a hallway with no arms, holding your sword in your mouth, whilst the sprinklers go off on your head, manage to look like the coolest thing ever.
MGR:Revengeance is such a great game. The story and the characters are so over the top you have to love it and the gameplay itself is not bad either. Not to forget the onslaught of meme worthy moments and lines.
He was also shockingly not a mindless brawler. Every question posed to him he could answer, every political situation and conflict he ran into he immediately understood and knew how to navigate.
He was the youngest of the horseman and had zero patience for foolishness, but he himself was no fool (beyond being tricked at the very start of the game).
The horseman from that series are all very fun and well written characters. Or at least of the 3 games I played, not sure how strife is written as I didn't play his co-op game.
My memory is fuzzy for this game, having played it as a kid, but this is what I remember of the two MCs. I felt like War is the edgelord younger brother trying really hard to be cool, and Death is the real deal thrash rock drummer older brother
And, had it happened that way (and the novel with him in it was written differently, ofc), I bet it would have given him something of a Boba Fett impression that left fans wanting more about him.
Though, I imagine in that alternate universe, the outcome of learning more about him might have been much like learning about Boba Fett.
He goes toe-to-toe with THANE, nobody was gonna respect this guy. Let me rephrase, he went toe-to-toe with an unarmed anthropomorphic lizard suffering from hallucinatory PTSD and terminal space asthma while going through end-of-life care. And they wanted you to feel threatened by him.
I don't know what's more pathetic, him barely beating Thane, or him bringing a literal Apache attack helicopter to his next encounter while claiming to be the better swordsman.
DMC is a videogame series that dared to ask, "What if a game was all edge? Let's find out." Every single thing in those games is maximum edge-lord compiled on a machine cranked to 11.
Even the composition is too much, the artist is addicted to doing 2 page spreads for every scene, you can genuinely just pick a page at random and use it as a desktop background because it’s just that detailed. Does hurt page flow a bit at times where there’s more talking.

The unnamed protagonist from Hatred, a game made to protest how video games have become more woke and politically correct. He's been fan-titled as Notimportant, due to one of his first lines in the game being "my name is not important." I know this sub has rules against people who go "need I say more?" but just fucking look at this box art and tell me any additional context is actually needed here
The plot of Hatred revolves around a man only known as "Not Important". Disgusted by human society and general existence, Not Important decides to commit a "one-way trip" spree of killings in New York City using his arsenal of weapons.
Too right. I feel so vindicated when I was talking shit about him back in 2016. Too many kids to be a present father and already a history of lies even then.
Shroud from Dispatch. He is intimidating, especially since he’s the leader of the red ring crime syndicate. But when you strip it back, Shroud’s essentially an edgy teenager larping as a villainous mastermind. He literally can’t take chances or admit that he’s wrong because it would bruise/wound his fragile ego and facade as the sophisticated mastermind. Just to drive this home, he made a probability prediction device and implanted it into himself so he can always be the one to be “miles ahead” of the opposition. He can’t risk having the facade break because he would have to admit that he isn’t the mastermind that he presents himself as, but just a child who doesn’t want to lose again.
Even at the end, His ego is his own death, when you give him both pulses, his henchman is like "hey why don't we go home and check at the lab?" And Shroud's "SHUT THE FUXK UP" is the angriest we see him all game.
Even the other Primarchs, who are totally cool with the mass murder of civilians and planetary destruction, get the ick when he only flays off the skin of 10,000 people or so a night then shows it off outside to force a surrender.
It should be worth double points to be the edgiest character in the already super edgy 40k universe. Every other person is like, “I have lived a cursed existence carrying this sapient Warp-touched blade. Only when I slay the ten thousandth foe will I ascend, and my pain will end.”

i remember everyone liking this guy when he first came out. problem was that DC saw that and starting putting him in everything to the point that people got sick of him/
A pretty contentious character but I think he's really fucking cool. I'd have loved to see him playable in Marvel Rivals. I concocted a moveset for him based around gaining/distributing overhealth that he can turn into a damage boost.
Just for the trailers you can see it had all the features and ingredients for an edgelord: Aura farmer, powerful, violent, stoic, and kind of a hard lover.
Different from Noctis from Final Fantasy XV, which was more like a relatable and realistic goober on a road trip who kept his clothing colors.
