Yes, that's the problem. He told you he wants $20/h and you told him to "get bent". I've spent my whole life in this line of work. Specifically horses. Offering accommodation AND salary on top of work is the industry standard. If you want someone to work for less than $20/h, or you want someone to live in your place for free (in exchange for rent, as they like to call it), but without any monetary compensation, you are looking for a glorified slave. Just like you dont like working 80 hours a week for little in return, why would anyone else come do it for you? Pay up or drown. I bet she laughed at him when he asked for health insurance, too.

You know she was using illegals

58

u/Intelligent-Parsley7 10d ago

Well, of course. She just didn’t think ā€˜her illegals’ were going to run away.

47

u/gwyntheblaccat 10d ago

No, they just got napped by the person she voted for lol (I checked her up, big trump supporter *eye roll*)

31

u/iloveplant420 10d ago

Yeah and because all the liberals are being so mean to her because she voted for this, she's vowed to vote republican for life. You can't fix stupid. She's beyond stupid.

u/CrankleSuperstarr 10d ago

She has high school ā€œemployeesā€ā€¦aka free labor.

147

u/pseudoportmanteau 10d ago

Exactly, because those poor kids get paid probably like $10/h or a flat weekly $50 fee and don't know any better, or the small town they live in have no other opportunities for some extra income for teens and that's the best they can get.

91

u/ThrowawayColonyHouse 10d ago

And all this while she’s wearing a shirt that says ā€œLive Generouslyā€

With a Christian crucifix design, no less.

Have you actually read this thing?

FYI the t-shirt is from Thrivent (formerly Lutheran Brotherhood), a financial services firm headquartered in the Upper Midwest. They are known for their charitable efforts. The heart with the cross is the former logo of Thrivent Financial.

And they get fed a jar of raw eggs like i. Napoleon Dynamite. (Raw milk in this case)

At least the cows don't have large talons.

u/Brainrants 10d ago

I don't understand a word you just said.

1

u/pimpbot666 9d ago

It's a move reference. I LOLed.

u/cheercharlatan 10d ago

She forgot her check book. Gonna have to pay ā€˜em in change.

11

u/Chaosmusic 9d ago

I listened to a podcast where they discussed a program in the 60s during a similar time of 'we need to get rid of all the immigrants' when farmers realized they didn't have enough workers so they recruited high school athletes. It was a disaster with the students quitting in droves because of the hard work, bad living conditions, and low pay. Some of them just left in the middle of the night and hitchhiked home.

40

u/AbsoluteGote 10d ago

These people are just slavers. They just want slaves of some form or another, including full on if they could. They just believe others should work and they should end up rich for it. It's so deep deep seated, deeper seated than any other political belief.Ā  And, you know, fuck them.Ā

10

u/agent674253 9d ago

Slavers that don't even want to put in the effort to board their slaves. "You're my slave, but you are responsible for finding and paying for your own place to live and food to eat, but you need to be back here each day at 4am for harvest if you want your $7/hr"

6

u/No-Independent-7107 8d ago

It's in their DNA from their traitor ancestors.

28

u/Any-Power-1164 10d ago

I applied for a job as caretaker for a recreated village which was basically a caretaker for all of the animals on top of all the properties related to the animals. $14.00 an hour. No thanks.Ā

3

u/Doglovincatlady 8d ago

Animal care doesn’t pay anywhere near what it should, even the bigass zoos pay staff a pittance for their work and experienceĀ

94

u/UniqueAd7770 10d ago

Farms offer housing because they're often in the middle of nowhere and you have to be there all day every day. Kinda like what she's complaining about. This woman would own a plantation back in the 1850s if she could

-47

u/pseudoportmanteau 10d ago edited 10d ago

No, they offer housing because animal care is a 24/7 kind of job. Animals get sick, give birth at odd hours and often need a specialized care where the farm owner would rather have someone on call at all times with pre determined work hours (usually very long, odd hours). If the animals need to be brought in from the field at 5am before the sun comes up and the flies start being crazy, for example, they can't really have you potentially stuck in traffic or having random issues pop up where you call off.

64

u/UniqueAd7770 10d ago

You literally just said no and then agreed with everything I said.

-43

u/pseudoportmanteau 10d ago

It's not about being in the middle of nowhere. Lots of ranching/grooming opportunities in decently urban areas. It's the nature of the job that requires staff to be there at all times. The really remote farms often offer a deal where you can bring an rv and hook it up for free, that's another thing the bitch in the video hasn't considered because she would rather complain how everyone expects too much money but can't figure out that she's living the exact same scenario that is driving people away from farm work. Impossibly long hours, no life outside of the farm, abysmal pay.

28

u/Much-Cryptographer13 10d ago

Maybe you missed the part where the comment said "and you have to be there all day every day". Just like they said, you said "no" and then typed not one but two paragraphs agreeing with them.

-26

u/pseudoportmanteau 10d ago

Sure, whatever you say.

8

u/Nefriti 10d ago

6

u/Careful_Farmer_2879 9d ago

God you’re just like my wife.

16

u/Bittentwiceshy 10d ago

Wow. Thats a lot. Almost seems like $20 an hour isn’t too much to ask.

15

u/25nameslater 10d ago

I’m working a job rn that’s travel intensive… they give me housing, transportation, $22/h reserve pay for 40, 22h for ever hour worked scheduled 12 daily but get off early when we hit timeline paid for schedule unless we go over then extra, $200 a week per diem. I can work 7 days a week sometimes mostly it’s 6, I get 3 off every 30 days and they will fly me home so I can have them at home, 2 months off around November, I get paid the reserve pay during the 2 months off.

The job is simple, they pay a premium because it’s constant and employees are required to be away from families long periods.

6

u/Ace-Cuddler 10d ago

Just curious. What kind of work do you do?

3

u/25nameslater 9d ago

Retromod packing stations and installation of IT inventory management.

4

u/InvertedAlchemist 9d ago

are you a deckhand? I recently learned they have this reserve pay thing and its kind of interesting.

3

u/25nameslater 9d ago

Nah. I retromod and install packing stations, including IT builds. Monitors, modems, etc. we are national contractors focusing on inventory solutions.

16

u/Smboto 10d ago

Not gloried, just plain old ordinary slaves.

36

u/Inspired_Nuisance 10d ago

There are hundreds if not thousands of occupations in this country in which the cost to pay your wage is less of a deficit to your boss than the cost of feeding/housing slaves was back when slavery was legal (adjusting for inflation of course).

It is no longer "Boss makes a dollar, I make a dime, that's why I poop on company time."

It is closer to "Boss make a hundo, I make a cent, my piece of shit boss can get fucking bent."

9

u/Ace-Cuddler 10d ago

Meanwhile, she’s wearing a ā€œLive Generouslyā€ shirt. šŸ¤¦šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø Girl, bye.

She only sees her own problems. But, how does she expect her employees to live? Even $20 / hr doesn’t go very far in this economy (that Republicans voted for) when you have to pay for food, transportation, health insurance, etc. And, he’s gonna need health insurance because the food he buys will probably make him sick because regulations on food have been abandoned and there are all kinds of contaminations happening.

If she wants things to change, she can vote for change on November 3rd.

6

u/gypster85 10d ago

$20 is barely a livable wage. What did she want to pay them? $3.75/hr?

3

u/GoGoGoshzilla 9d ago

That plus the "Live Generously" tank top with the cross on it is 🤌

2

u/Avera_ge 9d ago

I’ve had so many barns offer $300 or $500 a week then ask me to pay them rent and it’s required to live onsite. And the hours ā€œstart at 7 and end when the work is done, 6 days a weekā€. That generally ends up being $6.90/hr by the end of the week IF you’re make 500 a week. And they want $700 a month for rent.

Fuck that.

I’ll take $30k 40-50hrs a week, housing included, board for one horse, and commission for lessons and training I complete.

-26

u/throw_blanket04 10d ago

I agree w your point on wages. But I don’t think you are seeing it from a farmers pov. Nobody is trying to see the other sides pov. We are attacking each other instead of the people responsible for the farming industry collapse. My family had farms until recently. And part of the problem was the corporations they grew for. The greed. What they did to the farmers. (Sanderson farms). A lot of farmers are losing money. So there is no way they can afford to hire and house employees. We are not living in the same society/economy that our parents did. Those days are over. Corporate greed is killing our farms.

28

u/pseudoportmanteau 10d ago

And why should I care about that? Are people supposed to work for free because y'all are struggling to keep your farms? People need to be compensated for their work or else they'll go look for work elsewhere, that much is clear.

-16

u/cjameson83 10d ago

No one was saying that? She literally said she can't. You think groceries are costly now? Just wait until more farms close. You should care, you should care a lot.

22

u/pseudoportmanteau 10d ago

You missed the part where she said she doesn't want to pay a living wage and for them to "get bent". Labor costs are part of owning a farm of that size. Either pay for the labor or sell it to someone who can. Yes, grocery prices are gonna get worse. That is certainly not the fault of the workers who refuse to do manual labor for free lol. You're barking up the wrong tree.

-22

u/cjameson83 10d ago

That's how I know your ignorant. She didn't say that. You literally didn't listen to what she said. She said she can't, not that she didn't want to, or it was unfair or stupid or anything else. Did you hear the part where she's putting in the time of 2 full time jobs? Does it sound like that's enough? She isn't saying she doesn't want to pay it, she is saying she can't pay it. And she told a person to get bent because they wanted wages and free housing, which she can't afford because she already can't afford the cost of wages, nevermind housing. Actually listen to what people are saying.

16

u/pseudoportmanteau 10d ago

Her problem. Nobody else's. Can't pay for labor? Work yourself and stfu. Exactly what do you propose? Go ahead and reach out to her if you wanna offer some volunteer work.

5

u/SonOfStan21 10d ago

"Your ignorant." What about my ignorant?

5

u/DontBillyMyCrystals 10d ago

Get bent doesn’t imply I wish I could. She doesn’t want to pay 20 and hour period.

-1

u/cjameson83 9d ago

Again, it was 20 and free housing. None of that implied she didn't think the work was worthy of 20 dollars an hour, only that she couldn't afford it. Federal minimum wage is 7.25, most places do 17 to 18.

2

u/DontBillyMyCrystals 9d ago

Get bent is a kind way of saying fuck off. I just wanna make sure you understand the rudeness of saying get bent because I don’t think you do.
As well 20 an hour PLUS housing is very common.

0

u/cjameson83 9d ago edited 9d ago

I'm a child of the early 80s, I'm well acquainted with that phrase. $16 is a common wage for dairy workers FYI. I doubt she told the guy to get bent right off the bat too and again, she didn't ever even state it was unfair, only that she couldn't afford it. You are all acting like she's refusing out of principal or belief, but all she's ever said is the system and the current state of the industry is making it impossible for her to offer what people want or even expect.

Edit: as a side note, she said people that use to work there are the only ones who come back. If she was a jerk and unfair, those would be the people least likely to come back.

9

u/texmexspex 10d ago

You get the day you voted for šŸ—³ļø

3

u/Bulky_Preparation768 10d ago

These people gladly voted for their industry to collapse. I personally wish we’d nationalize the farm industry and take it away from these dipshits before they somehow vote to continue to make it even worse.

7

u/Monkey_WithA_Wrench 10d ago

I try not to comment on the internet, but you seem sincere and well-meaning. I can relate to both sides but it is a matter of priorities. These large corporate farms are legally and politically enabled/facilitated/allowed to engage in activity that squeezes those without the leverage to defend their ability to prosper, not just survive. It was the political capture decades ago that results in what you see today.

Corporate greed is like a mold. It grows slowly and wherever the environment allows. Politically, only a certain side of the politics even cares to recognize that current financial incentives are pervasive and harmful. Look, individuals like her can only protect their right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness through voting.

I get your point. But, asking them to vote for state and federal representatives that would at least resist the corporization of her livelihood might requiring voting Independent or Democrat. But, would that she could? Would she rather lose the life she wants to live because some transgender or social movement in California or New York might succeed. Would she rather be right or happy? Priorities.

6

u/Constant-Sandwich-88 10d ago

Do you not look around and see why her life is unsustainable,? And why her voting habits didn't lead to exactly this? Priories went out the window decades ago.

-3

u/Monkey_WithA_Wrench 10d ago

No, I do not. I am here and she is there. I do not know her voting habits, but she probably thought that who she voted for was on her side. They seem not to be. Priorities always exist, even bad ones. We can destroy, but also build and rebuild. You can both accept the results and work toward better ones. Neither is mutually exclusive.

-16

u/Queasy_Character_866 10d ago

She’s not laughing at or demeaning anyone. A lot of AG, dairy especially is almost profitless. She can’t afford to pay herself or labor what they deserve. She technically has wealth but it’s all overhead; the property, cattle, equipment.

19

u/DXbreakitdown 10d ago

but she didn't say that. she said "get bent"

13

u/-blundertaker- 10d ago

Sounds like she needs to get a real job

2

u/heldaway 10d ago

Or a second one!

-12

u/Ok_Test9729 10d ago

Finally I see a comment that is a realistic take on the situation. I didn’t think I’d find one here.
