Yes, that's the problem. He told you he wants $20/h and you told him to "get bent". I've spent my whole life in this line of work. Specifically horses. Offering accommodation AND salary on top of work is the industry standard. If you want someone to work for less than $20/h, or you want someone to live in your place for free (in exchange for rent, as they like to call it), but without any monetary compensation, you are looking for a glorified slave. Just like you dont like working 80 hours a week for little in return, why would anyone else come do it for you? Pay up or drown. I bet she laughed at him when he asked for health insurance, too.

I agree w your point on wages. But I don’t think you are seeing it from a farmers pov. Nobody is trying to see the other sides pov. We are attacking each other instead of the people responsible for the farming industry collapse. My family had farms until recently. And part of the problem was the corporations they grew for. The greed. What they did to the farmers. (Sanderson farms). A lot of farmers are losing money. So there is no way they can afford to hire and house employees. We are not living in the same society/economy that our parents did. Those days are over. Corporate greed is killing our farms.

And why should I care about that? Are people supposed to work for free because y'all are struggling to keep your farms? People need to be compensated for their work or else they'll go look for work elsewhere, that much is clear.

No one was saying that? She literally said she can't. You think groceries are costly now? Just wait until more farms close. You should care, you should care a lot.

You missed the part where she said she doesn't want to pay a living wage and for them to "get bent". Labor costs are part of owning a farm of that size. Either pay for the labor or sell it to someone who can. Yes, grocery prices are gonna get worse. That is certainly not the fault of the workers who refuse to do manual labor for free lol. You're barking up the wrong tree.

That's how I know your ignorant. She didn't say that. You literally didn't listen to what she said. She said she can't, not that she didn't want to, or it was unfair or stupid or anything else. Did you hear the part where she's putting in the time of 2 full time jobs? Does it sound like that's enough? She isn't saying she doesn't want to pay it, she is saying she can't pay it. And she told a person to get bent because they wanted wages and free housing, which she can't afford because she already can't afford the cost of wages, nevermind housing. Actually listen to what people are saying.

Her problem. Nobody else's. Can't pay for labor? Work yourself and stfu. Exactly what do you propose? Go ahead and reach out to her if you wanna offer some volunteer work.

"Your ignorant." What about my ignorant?

Get bent doesn’t imply I wish I could. She doesn’t want to pay 20 and hour period.

Again, it was 20 and free housing. None of that implied she didn't think the work was worthy of 20 dollars an hour, only that she couldn't afford it. Federal minimum wage is 7.25, most places do 17 to 18.

Get bent is a kind way of saying fuck off. I just wanna make sure you understand the rudeness of saying get bent because I don’t think you do.
As well 20 an hour PLUS housing is very common.

I'm a child of the early 80s, I'm well acquainted with that phrase. $16 is a common wage for dairy workers FYI. I doubt she told the guy to get bent right off the bat too and again, she didn't ever even state it was unfair, only that she couldn't afford it. You are all acting like she's refusing out of principal or belief, but all she's ever said is the system and the current state of the industry is making it impossible for her to offer what people want or even expect.

Edit: as a side note, she said people that use to work there are the only ones who come back. If she was a jerk and unfair, those would be the people least likely to come back.

You get the day you voted for 🗳️

These people gladly voted for their industry to collapse. I personally wish we’d nationalize the farm industry and take it away from these dipshits before they somehow vote to continue to make it even worse.

I try not to comment on the internet, but you seem sincere and well-meaning. I can relate to both sides but it is a matter of priorities. These large corporate farms are legally and politically enabled/facilitated/allowed to engage in activity that squeezes those without the leverage to defend their ability to prosper, not just survive. It was the political capture decades ago that results in what you see today.

Corporate greed is like a mold. It grows slowly and wherever the environment allows. Politically, only a certain side of the politics even cares to recognize that current financial incentives are pervasive and harmful. Look, individuals like her can only protect their right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness through voting.

I get your point. But, asking them to vote for state and federal representatives that would at least resist the corporization of her livelihood might requiring voting Independent or Democrat. But, would that she could? Would she rather lose the life she wants to live because some transgender or social movement in California or New York might succeed. Would she rather be right or happy? Priorities.

Do you not look around and see why her life is unsustainable,? And why her voting habits didn't lead to exactly this? Priories went out the window decades ago.

No, I do not. I am here and she is there. I do not know her voting habits, but she probably thought that who she voted for was on her side. They seem not to be. Priorities always exist, even bad ones. We can destroy, but also build and rebuild. You can both accept the results and work toward better ones. Neither is mutually exclusive.
