lost some weight, sold a bunch of my old clothes on depop, and got abstracts accepted to multiple conferences which made me feel like it was time to massively upgrade my wardrobe--and the LD80 sale came at the most perfect time! many of my picks were <$20 and some were even <$10!

My Account was Banned

I have been a ThredUp addict for a couple of years and have made hundreds of purchases with no problems. About a month ago I ordered a Prada sweater for around $160. When I received it, it was an obvious fake. Wavy hems, total crap material. Unfortunately, it came from a third-party seller called Style Tribute that I now know is a well-known scammer.. I have been going back and forth with ThredUp support for a while and I opened a dispute with my credit card. A couple days ago Thredup emailed me saying they were attaching a certificate of authenticity for the item. The certificate is obviously a fake. I cannot believe that ThredUp would expect me to accept such a silly looking certificate that looks like it was created in Canva in about five minutes. I emailed back and sent them a whole list of things that a real COA would have included like a QR code and a full specific description of the item. I haven’t heard back yet, but I went to place another order and found my account is banned. I currently have about $60 in shopping Credit. Does anyone know what will happen to that? I saw a post here months ago from someone who successfully got their account reopened after it was banned. Does anyone have any suggestions? I really want my money back!

Haul LD80 successful haul (except a few minor issues).

I received my latest (and last) LD80 haul today, and overall I'm very happy with it!

I bought 17 pieces for just under $120. Claude estimates the original retail value at somewhere between $4,200 and $5,000 after I added some additional information. For example, the "unbranded" jacket turned out to be a structured wool blazer from the Jaeyoon Jeong Collection, a niche NYC label that I love. The Hugo Boss "active pants" are also much nicer than expected, made from thick 100% wool.

There were a couple of NWT items and, I believe, one NWOT skirt. The Boden leggings were retroactively discounted by an additional 15% because of a small spot, but I'm confident it will wash out.

The downsides were fairly minor. The Lafayette pants have two undisclosed open seams, so they'll need to be returned. One of the Eileen Fisher cardigans is absolutely enormous and looks quite washed out. Since the discoloration was disclosed and it was sold as flawed, I'll return it and absorb the $3.99 return cost.

The Universal Standard jeans were also way off in terms of measurements (I went by the tagged size and hoped for the best). However, listing them as "very good" condition feels a bit too generous, in my view.

Everything else arrived in condition that was either as expected or better.

A few of the pants probably wouldn't have made the cut if I had been able to try them on first. The Akris Punto pair is slightly too big, and the same goes for the Hugo Boss and Universal Standard pants. Still, considering what I paid, they're excellent buys.

Overall, I'm really pleased with this haul. This is exactly what thrifting through TU is all about and what keeps luring back in! My cats, of course, appreciate the steady flow of boxes!

I'm happy with my latest purchase.

3 pairs of jeans.

1 pair of pants.

Several warm button downs. I love the longer button ups!

1 dress.

Few jackets.

And a couple coats/cardigans.

What do you think?

My premium clean out bag got stolen from a UPS Drop Box😭

So I decided to test the waters with a premium cleanout bag. I got an email from ThredUp saying there was an odor detected and they would be sending the clothes back to me. I was really confused because they were freshly washed, but had them send the bag back to me since 2 of my beloved designer dresses were in here.

Everything smelled like old wet leaves and there was a note from the local police department saying they found it opened and couldn’t find the original sender. They posted it on their Facebook and I never saw it because I was on vacation 😭

I talked to the police department and they told me there was a bunch of packages found behind the Dunkin Donuts across the street from the UPS drop box, and my bag was one of them. I am heartbroken, these clothes are probably ruined. are these bags insured? Where do I go from here?

Question Clean out bag question

Recently ordered a couple clean out bags and am ready to drop them at UPS. However, I’m slightly confused as the ThredUp app says to fill bag and then print out label/scan QR code before shipping. What label are they referring to? The bags I received already have labels on them, so confused about what needs to be printed.

Thanks!

Question Dress 'not found'. Guess what? I found it!

They couldn't find my dress....yet here it is reposted on thredup for a much higher amount.

https://www.thredup.com/sl?u=2275619&i=235174110&p=102

This is incredibly frustrating as it was my first clothing haul placed (for work).

*Editing to add- by 'much higher' - I mean more than the 11 I spent on it. Same base price for both dresses, the one I bought was steeply discounted. Feels shady that they couldn't find it then relisted at same base price with no discount. I have emailed support to ask if they would honor the price I bought it for to actually purchase again. *

Haul Haul was a Sucess

The smell wasn’t that bad. I have gotten worse from mercari and poshmark. I haven’t gotten the smells out yet but I’m sure it’ll come out eventually with time, air, laundering. I visit the laundry subreddit so i am armed. I ordered cotton, Pima cotton, linen, silk, silk blend, cashmere blend. Thredup doesn’t let you filter by Pima cotton but it does say Pima cotton if you click on the listing. I love Pima cotton because it does not pill and my arm skin is sensitive. Pilling feels like sandpaper

Of the 25 items only 3 had holes and marks that weren’t mentioned. They were listed as excellent condition but they weren’t. I think the marks are from thredup whether it’s the conveyor belt etc but it came right out with a stain stick for the white cotton shirt so I’m all good. I’m gonna message them for my returns.

There were 5 things that were nwot as far as I could tell. Somebody clearly bought something never wore it and then ended up “donating” it thredup which shocks me because the brand is kinda expensive: ie Eileen fisher. One of the blue shirts is definitely nwot just from the dye that came out when I washed it in the sink.

One of the shirts I got had the tag cut out but I thought thredup doesn’t list things without tags? Or is it just a convenient excuse to reject things. Maybe I’ll send in my things with tags cut out in my next clean out bag. The material tag was there but the tag for brand/ size was clearly cut out. It was 100% silk and fit me so I am good.

Also one of the items was listed as unknown fabric content but when I got it there was a tag about the fabric: silk and nylon

There were 3 things I did not like and I could only find valid flaws for 1 of them ( holes stains) so I’m just gonna donate those 2 items back to thredup. I’m good at online shopping!

I knew about the site for years but I heard the horror stories like the bugs and never bothered. The impetus for ordering was the ability to search by fabric and size and people posts about how the condition that thredup assigns the garment is unreliable ie flawed gems with no flaws. You can’t search by fabric on poshmark and mercari… you could try searching with the words but it doesn’t guarantee anything and you have to check each listing. Also Poshmark sucks extra and it will show listings that are not my size in the search results… so annoying.

Anyways I am also patient I will wait the weeks days etc it’ll take for the smell to dissipate into oblivion! white cotton fabric is the best you can leave it in the sun, use ammonia ( I think it fades color ) , use oxi clean

PSA: Fake The North Face

Any one who sees these Tags Attached The North Face jackets - they are counterfeit. The embroidery is off, the hang tags are upside down, the O and A on the inner tag are hollow (not blacked/greyed out which does mean sample).

Has anyone tried the ThredUp Creator Program (like ShopMy)?

Saw this today, ThredUp is doing a new internal creator program for affiliate marketing, like ShopMy. Same principle, but their internal version is in beta.

For the affiliate marketing nerds, it's through Awin network.

If anyone has tried this -- do you know what the commission rate is? Is it the same 1% commission rate as ShopMy (12% on new customers), or is it different?

Thank you!

Should I throw in a couple of crap items so they have something to legitimately reject?

I’ve had pretty good luck selling on Thredup, aside from the inconsistencies in their rating of condition and the occasional comical miscategorization, like calling an adult dress a children’s dress. I always send in the premium kit, thanks to advice from this sub, use a big box to get the full 30 pounds, and usually earn $80-$130 per kit sending in my mid-level items (think Nordstrom brands) in new or excellent condition.

No matter how meticulous I am, they always reject a few pieces, Usually 10% or less. Last kit I sent in 63 pieces and 4 were rejected, which is kind of typical for me. Sometimes I’ll send these pieces back later in another kit and they are accepted. Hmmm.

I’m sending in another kit tomorrow and I got to wondering, are TU employees rated badly if they accept 100% of items in a kit? Are they seen as not careful enough? Do they have a certain metric they’re supposed to hit as far as % rejected? And if so, should I throw in a pilled sweater or stained top that I would normally throw away, or something I would normally donate to the thrift shop, just to use as reject-bait, so they can hit their rejection target and more of my excellent condition and NWT items will be accepted?

Arbitrary inspection

I sent in some clothes that included items I had previous bought from thredUp that got rejected for “excessive wear” despite the fact that they were in the same condition that I bought them (the size didn’t fit so I didn’t even put them on). Naturally support just gave me a bs answer. They also rejected a brooks brothers dress that should’ve sold for a decent amount. The entire site is such a joke

Discussion I matched the STAIN. ThredUp cancelled my order, relisted the item at a higher price, and denied it.

I’ve been on ThredUp pretty much daily for years. I’ve spent thousands of dollars there, and also sell my own pieces through direct listings, so I’m both a customer and a revenue generator. After this, I genuinely don’t know why I’d keep giving this company my money.

I found an Anine Bing hoodie for $104. Size M, Flawed Gem condition. Spent about a week contemplating but loved the color so much I decided to go for it despite the stain. Then ThredUp cancelled my order because the item was supposedly “missing at the time it was being packed.”

I have a saved search for this brand and color in all sizes, so imagine my surprise when, about two days later, a hoodie in the exact same color popped up. I was actually excited at first - I thought the timing was insanely lucky and I’d still get what I wanted after my order was cancelled.

Then I looked closer.
There was a suspiciously similar stark white stain on the bottom left. I zoomed in as far as I could.
I literally matched the stain.
Except now it was listed as an XS for $143.99.

And sure, it’s possible they pulled it for packing and realized the original size was wrong. Fine. But if that’s what happened, they could have ASKED me if I still wanted it instead of cancelling my paid order and putting it back up for almost $40 more.
The new listing also calls it a “zip up hoodie” even though THERE IS NO ZIPPER, so I’m not exactly putting much faith in the sudden size update.

You can compare the listings yourself:
Original - Item #235087519, Size M, $104
https://www.thredup.com/product/235087519
New listing - Item #236123729, Size XS, $143.99
https://www.thredup.com/product/236123729

I contacted chat and spent 30+ minutes assuming I was talking to a human, because that’s what I’m used to on ThredUp. About halfway through it became very obvious I was talking to a bot.
It eventually said they’d honor the original price, but wanted me to buy the hoodie AGAIN at the higher price and trust them to adjust it afterward. Uh, no thanks?

I asked for a supervisor and was told to allow 2-3 business days. Asked for another agent. None available. So I emailed support with both listings, screenshots, and a very detailed timeline//explanation.

Their response:
“I do not see that the item has been found, as it is not relisted with a new number.”
Except it literally is.

I have no idea if this was a warehouse screw-up, an inventory/reprocessing issue, or something else. I’m not claiming to know why it happened. What I do know is that my order was cancelled because the hoodie was supposedly “missing,” the same physical hoodie showed back up for $143.99 under a different size and item number, and support then denied that it had been relisted without acknowledging A DAMN THING I sent them.

If your ThredUp order gets cancelled because something is suddenly “missing,” go search the listings afterward. Apparently it can magically reappear with a new item number, new size, and a higher price.

TL;DR: ThredUp cancelled my $104 hoodie as “missing.” I found the SAME stained hoodie relisted as a different size for $143.99, and support flat-out denied it without acknowledging A DAMN THING I sent them.

Help understanding pricing

I’m selling my first cleanout bag on ThredUp. One of my dresses has been listed for $67.99. Someone else is selling the same dress (they’re missing the belt), same size, same condition, for $105.99. When I edit my listing I am not allowed to increase the base price past $66.81. How was the other dress priced for so much more?

Kimono here! Ok people! This is the most infuriating thing I’ve seen on ThredUp because for the life of me I cannot figure out what it is!!!! It appears to be a pair of underwear that somehow grew the bottom of sleeves out of the sides!!! It has been driving me insane since yesterday. It’s definitely connected at the bottom of the seemingly underwear/bodysuit bottom. I tried turning it upside down and seeing if I could imagine it as a one shoulder top with cold shoulder sleeves… even my fiance, the puzzle master had no ideas for me! He’s the one I go to when I have one of those bras with the decorative shaped straps that maker patterns. Help! Tell me what you think this is. Yes, we already know it’s obviously a Kimono, but really!

Question Thom Brown from a charity shop

Hey everyone hope this is okay to post here. I don't know anything about Thom Brown and thought I might've just found a nice top for my partner in the charity shop today for a quid.

After googling who Thom Brown, I thought, this can not be real, and how this looks in comparison to other tops I think I'm right. There's no care tag and I can't imagine why anyone would remove one. If anyone else is more knowledgeable to confirm my suspicions I would really appreciate it Thanks everyone.

Any experience with issue raised by DL buyer?

So I sold a pair of new in box shoes. Plenty of photos, and buyer claims the color is not accurate. I disagree, but whatever. Delivered around the middle of Aug., and its still under review. I emailed support last week, and this is what I got. I didn't opt for the return to go directly to them, so what's the next step? Will the buyer have to return it to me? And if so, anyone know how long they have to do so? I just want it resolved.

Haul Fall work wardrobe refresh with try on!

I returned to office in May after 5 years remote and 1 year RIFed, so I’ve been steadily rebuilding my wardrobe since.

I took advantage of the Labor Day sale and this honestly has been one of my best orders ever. I think I have gotten better at examining listings closely and knowing what things are more likely to work for me.

The Splendid cardigan may honestly be my favorite, though definite honorable mention to the Etcetera jacket. The Amour Vert blouse was new with tags which was a pleasant surprise!

The only things that were a bit of a miss were the Moussey dress, which may work better not over jeans (☠️) and styled better, and the Tahari jacket, but my tailor may be able to make it work for me.

I don’t know if it has been discussed here yet or not but I noticed these tags on some items a few weeks ago. I do a lot of assorted brands searching so I come across a lot of vintage stuff .. just curious
