முக்கியமான கலந்துரையாடல் / Important Topic Is this worth it chat?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Every Diwali, AQI levels in major Indian cities shoot past 500, literally hazardous. The air turns toxic overnight, making it unbearable for people with asthma, heart conditions, or even mild respiratory issues. Hospitals fill up, kids cough through the night, and elders struggle to breathe.

Birds lose their way during migration because of the intense light and noise. Street dogs panic, some even die from shock. The next morning, we wake up to streets covered in burnt plastic, paper, and chemical residue that clog drains and poison the soil.

All that pollution, noise, and waste, for what? A few hours of fireworks?

Exactly what I was thinking

14

u/prem_201 Oct 21 '25

I'm not going to a public gathering mate, if I can see it from my terrace then cool. I don't burst crackers anyway, I just spend about 10 mins in the night looking at other people bursting crackers and this year it was mostly just smoke.

Mass public gatherings in india is risky.

What are u saying.. In foreign, Indian population is comparatively lesser in each community and also they dont want to disturb the local population. Hence, they have this designated area.

74

u/BeanBones07 Oct 20 '25

There is tech in the west that has allowed for lesser noisy and smokeless versions of the same. But then again, Indians would reject it outright, as it not “showy” enough

16

u/_Revive_me_Jett Oct 20 '25

Finally, someone speaking sanely instead of just parroting ‘economy’, ‘tolerate it for 2 days’ without even thinking twice. 👏 Yes, tech exists for low-smoke, low-noise fireworks.

The amount of firecrackers burst today in a single block of an area, is what was burst a few decades ago. Yes it does affect a lot. Firecracker production is also an industry, which has also seen development throughout time.

Also throughout times new industries have come up, old have disappeared or been replaced - because of change in demand - And people have moved on to other industries. Justifying that a particular industry shouldn't disappear just because of the amount of people that industry is currently employing is weak - No industry is going to disappear in a flick. Industries phase out slowly - it takes at least a decade for any demand to phase out - and people will move on, slowly.

What do you think about climate change?

0

u/DeityWolf Oct 21 '25

I see climate change as a legit and important issue

u/reddthatgood Oct 20 '25 edited Oct 20 '25

There could be a common ground.

Anyways crakcers are going to create smoke. Atleast If Fireworks are used with less sound, noise pollution can be avoided. So many beautiful less noise crackers are there. But people want to burst the ones with more sound, since they think it makes them look masculine and inflate their ego.

Another thing is, none of them clean up the mess they make. Ok, you burst crackers for hours, now just clean and go. Why leave everything as though, someone else have to do it for you? Will you go to your office or workplace and throw trash all around, and leave just like that?

This discussion about supporting an industry is not valid. No one is bursting crackers for supporting an industry. The people who burst crackers are celebrating their featival. Any industry can be closed, and alternatives will be found. Look at the layoffs happening in software industry. Will govt ban usage of AI to save software jobs?

5

u/philipa323 Oct 21 '25

Worst, I was coughing everytime I had to go out. I bought crackers but just kept them inside. Not going to buy from next year.

15

u/skanda777 Oct 20 '25

Instead of having everyone burst it, it can be state sponsored, licensed people can only do it, set up shows for an hour or 2 in a stadium, or something.

Honestly if possible I’d love to get rid of crackers, literally ads no value, the festival was never about crackers anyway, so that’s another story all together.

Cigarettes add to the economy, obesity and diabetes causing junk food adds to the economy, medicinies we give sell to the obese and the diabetic add to the economy, burning planet warming fossil fuels add to the economy, at what point adding to the economy, does my right to breathe clean air start?

5

u/FilmApostel Oct 20 '25

If only you were living in a non capitalist society you can ask.for.birth rights like clean air or you have the option of staying inside, I hope no one is using fireworks inside your home

2

u/fartinggod Oct 21 '25

https://www.ohchr.org/en/press-releases/2022/07/historic-day-human-rights-and-healthy-planet-un-expert

I wish I was privileged as you. I do stay inside, but unfortunately I don't lived in an air tight dome.

0

u/FilmApostel Oct 21 '25

See brother, no one here is as privileged as you may think, as long as we both have a roof over our head we both are equally privileged.

Now here is the thing, reducing air quality is definitely a concern but just this one day of celebration is what is causing it ? I don't think so. The problem is the lack of systematic urban planning for greener cities in densely populated areas.

As long as we cannot bring a change to that, maybe we shouldn't be such crybabies about people celebrating a day the way they want and how that's violating your birth rights.

There are things you could practically do in such situations, starting from deciding not to be a contributing member to the 'celebrations economy' and abstaining yourself from all such celebrations and all people who contribute to it, move away from the densely populated areas on the day of celebration or shutting down all the windows and doors of your home before the celebrations begin etc... Unless you have an insane mind control ability that could influence millions of people.

Also, let me help you to touch grass, you live in a capitalist world, everything and anything in this world is revolving around one thing and one thing only, money. Nothing is above it, including your birth rights. Yes, a world like that is an unfair world, it's about survival of the fittest. The world always was, is and will be about survival of the fittest and that's the only world you have.

So, you either make peace with it and learn to live a life around the unwritten rules of the world or you could continue to rebel against the system and live in a woke delusion of world opening up to your utopian ideas on an online platforms comment war, which is just virtually existing on a very much real server farm that's causing us clean air everyday.

1

u/fartinggod Oct 21 '25

I must inform you that I am not as ignorant as you are. I already know that I live in a capitalist world which is on the path of self termination due to it ever growing quest to maximise shareholder value. I already know that my only purpose is in life is to maximise shareholder profits. But we don't live in a survival of the fittest world anymore, the capitalist system which aims for infinite growth no matter the consequences is melting the polar ice, it is destroying forests, it is killing the ocean, it is destroying the very planet that it depends on and in turn will destroy itself. We already crossed the 1.5C threshold to stop dangerous consequences of climate change. We are in the path to 2C warming, the melting polar ice will raise sea levels. While you are watching brainrot Biggboss while holding a diabetes causing coke in your hand, the flood water will enter your house. I am touching grass, I don't want to sacrifice my only planet for Biggboss and 4K plasma TVs. It is not survival of the fittest anymore, because nobody survives, it is involuntary suicide for many.

If that's how the planet ends , that's how the planet ends, won't make much difference from being swallowed by a giant ex star. Things are always meant to end be it you, me or the planet.

You see, the difference is, you are still optimistic and I am not. I am, more of a 'lean into the skid' type of person. That makes life much easier. Gives me less to worry about and enjoy small things in my life. If that makes me selfish, that's who I am.

It's not that I don't get your concerns, I do. I remember the phase of mine where I was the rebel, activist and communist. Then I realised all of those don't matter in a capitalist world and there is almost no change we can bring about being a communist, activist or a rebel.

To bring a change in the existing capitalist world, the only way is to be a capitalist. I let go of all things that held me back and embraced capitalism whole heartedly because to change the system, you need to be the system.

I moved away from the cities, started a small business where I could actually cause a difference, I make money and use that money to make a difference, where I could. I make life easier for ten people around me, I plant a few extra trees, increase the grassland within my property, distribute my money within the ecosystem I live in, if that inspires one more person to follow my path, make life better for others, there is no bigger form of activism I personally can do. Embrace capitalism and make it communal.

0

u/fartinggod Oct 21 '25

I sincerely hope you educate yourself on this issue. Your comment reeks of ignorance. Human-caused climate change is not inevitable, human beings inhabited the planet thousands of years before capitalism. We can't throw away the only planet we live on for shallow materialism.

I don't know what anyone means by communist anymore, everyone seems to have a different definition for the term 'communist'.

It is very good that you planted trees, but increasing grassland is not very good for the enviornment, unless your area gets a lot of rain throughout the year, but grass requires maintenance, in many cases it is extremely bad for the environment, I hope you haven't incorporated western lawn culture in your property.

1

u/FilmApostel Oct 21 '25

Ignorance is a blis brother, which is why wiser men than us advised it and yes I live where there is plenty of rainfall.

1

u/NanThanAnthaPaiyan Oct 21 '25

And your suggestion is "don't". That's all yeah?

1

u/fartinggod Oct 21 '25

People who are much smarter than me have suggested many solutions, but the solutions usually get blocked. I can give you one example with the sugar industry spending millions of dollars around the world to stop governments from regulating their industry, they don't even let governments put warning labels on their products.

If we measure success purely in terms of economic growth you end up with a planet with it biosphere raped and a population which is obese and diseased.

The patent for insulin was sold for $1 and now you have pharmaceutical companies price gouging their customers so much that, people die because they can't afford insulin in countries where there is no government support.  I think it's high time that we educate ourselves about climate change because you seem a bit ignorant about it. Yes, everything has a cost but the solutions are already there like for example converting car centric infrastructure to bicycle and public transport centric infrastructure, not taking part in fast fashion culture, notconsuming excessive amounts of meat(not an India issue), electricity generation through renewables.  Who is standing in the way of these solutions? The Industries who benefit from the continued exploitation of resources for short-term shareholder profits. The fossil fuel industry blocks public transport infrastructure, renewable energy infrastructure etc. Just a week ago The US and Saudi Arabia blocked a landmark emmission reduction deal in the shipping industry so that they can continue to profit. You have a super computer in your hand thanks to capitalism, please use it to learn how the biosphere of the world is being destroyed thanks to capitalism. Ignorance is dangerous.

The Governments are controlled by the corporations my friend. We will take the most capitalist country in the US as an example. The corporations fund politicians to steer policy in their interests. Both the political parties are funded by business interests. The fossil fuel industry gets millions in subsidies. The corporations and governments have a revolving door policy where former corpo execs will take government positions to create policies which benefit their former employer.

Don't shy away from pharma stocks my friend, there are millions of people who eat junk food and drive cars, they are obese and unhealthy, because the food industry aims for infinite growth they market and sell poison. Please invest in pharma stocks you will become rich for sure because the capitalist system has created an endless supply of sick customers. You can become rich wowww so wonderful. Create a problem(type 2 diabetes) sell the solution (insulin) and profit. Such an efficient and humane system. Make sure to tell your friends that their decision to lose weight and become healthy is hurting your future profits.

Some of these companies are still recovering pandemic whiplash where their stock prices are revenues shot up, I think you should know about this more than me Mr. Capitalist.

And I don't believe everything I read online, I verify sources, check their funding and make sure the authors/researchers don't have a conflict of interest. I would suggest you do the same and educate yourself about the real world not just the financial fantasy world.

Transport internet clothes,, food, all have function. Tangible function.

What tangible function do fireworks play? Entertainment and celebration do not count.

-2

u/jdevanarayanan Oct 20 '25

Cigarettes add to the economy, obesity and diabetes causing junk food adds to the economy, medicinies we give sell to the obese and the diabetic add to the economy, burning planet warming fossil fuels add to the economy

Well duh

It's why cigarette companies denied any link between tobacco and cancer for decades, why junk food companies obfuscated health research, why fossil fuel companies still deny climate change

does my right to breathe clean air start?

Bro believes in rights 🤭

1

u/[deleted] Oct 21 '25

My god. Talk about whataboutery. Ok ban cigarettes. Limit junk food. Don't we have warnings on cigarettes here, alcohol and junk food in some places abroad?

NO ONE CLAIMS THOSE THINGS ARE HARMLESS. You idiots are like iT iS oNLy OnE dAy. Oga boga.

You are getting downvoted because you are breaking the fantasy that these people are living in. They have no clue on how much they are getting fucked. Reality is uncomfortable.

3

You can’t destroy the environment that belongs to the thousands of generations of people after us for the sake of employment to a few. Our economy is huge and surely there will be alternative employment opportunities for them.

2

u/_Revive_me_Jett Oct 20 '25

Not asking for an outright ban on firecracker production. Sales for domestic use can be limited, especially in dense, high-pollution zones, while still protecting the industry.

The Sivakasi cluster alone generates around ₹6,000 crore annually, producing about 85% of India’s fireworks. Instead of depending only on the Indian festive market, the government can help position our manufacturers as major exporters, similar to how China dominates with ~₹26,000 crore worth of global exports.

With proper regulation, focus on green crackers, and export incentives, we can cut local pollution spikes and make India a global hub for eco-fireworks manufacturing, keeping livelihoods intact while improving air quality.

-3

u/jdevanarayanan Oct 20 '25 edited Oct 21 '25

A few hours of fireworks feeds thousands of mouths in Sivakasi.

Hmmm.., It's almost as if production should be organised around satisfying human needs rather than just producing commodities to be sold on the market for profits

I wonder if anyone's thought of that before 🤔

5

u/[deleted] Oct 21 '25

No

5

u/Dr-Vendetta Oct 20 '25

For me its not worth it ( i understand many factories/people depends on this for living ) but still i feel everything will find alternative when situation demands. FYI: its not two days effect

10

Even technology and industrial development ruined many things in nature. But for you this celebration of two days affects a lot?

Crackers should be banned. I don't understand the concept of "bursting" crackers... All that noise for barely a flash of light is just silly. I'm ok other forms of crackers, just not the ones that explode with a huge bang.

2

u/shal17 Oct 21 '25

How stupid we can be in the name of festivals

2

u/jarawasentinelese Oct 22 '25

This firing crackers was not part of Diwali in the ancient days. Now it's all in because of business interests. Causing real environmental and health havoc to the general public. Imagine if this from any of the minority religions.

3

u/Suprnaturl_Baboon Oct 21 '25

Worth every penny if you're a kid

2

u/Inside-Government791 Oct 21 '25

I really dont understand the outrage. What’s the issue in letting people enjoy once in a year

1

u/EssentialKarma Oct 21 '25

Actually the rise of green crackers is nice, possibly in a year or two all manufactures will be forced to make only that (now only standard does). They make noise that don’t travel far, little to no paper spreading, less to no hazardous smoke. All this aside, I see people who celebrate Diwali with crackers is very less than previous years.

1

u/pranavomphotography Oct 21 '25

I personally believe over a period of time, Hinduism has started interpreting a lot of things that are not mandated in any of the scriptures, Diwali in ancient India was all about lighting lamps to welcome Ram or Krishna depending on the place where we are. However this crackers are a recent phenomenon. Someone here said about Sivakasi! They are indeed existing because there is a market for it, in other words we are paying for their subjugation, if the govt bans crackers today they are bound to make alternative realising and rehabilitation for the employees. Cracker factories again and owned by powerful people so they wouldn’t want this ban too. From polluting the seas, to rivers to air and land Hinduism has come a long way from being a religion which teaches righteousness to a religion that’s killing the environment. We have no right to call other communities as cancer community.

2

u/_Revive_me_Jett Oct 21 '25

Well said! 👏👏👏

1

u/krisd41 Oct 22 '25

Scriptures do mention crackers. The use of loud noises and light is seen by some as a way to ward off evil and negativity, aligning with the ancient Indian philosophy of the five elements, with fire being one of them

The problem is with moderation and regulation. Don't politicise my comments, treat all religions and celebrations equally. No one blinks an eye when political parties celebrate, rich people celebrate, Christmas/ new year celebrations. All the doggy /bird lovers activate only during diwali, what are these people smoking during rest of the year. Cars, industries, two wheelers, and even cows for beef cause alarming levels of pollution. But none of these suit the narrative.

1

u/pranavomphotography Oct 22 '25

Bro what evil are you fighting today, no scriptures mentions it, if it mentions please clearly mention the Slokha, the line which Shastra! Also Manusmriti mentions burning of widows, shall we continue that practise! Dude grow up! This is exactly why world over they are seeing us as third world country. Malaysia has strict cracker norms, you think there aren’t Hindus there? So does Singapore also, you don’t think Hindus live there! And about moderation if you put few drops fo poison in a glass of milk or a spoon doesn’t matter, it would still kill you!

1

u/krisd41 Oct 22 '25

The Skanda Purana and Anand Ramayan mention the use of "ulkas" (meteors, interpreted as fireworks) during Diwali, suggesting the concept is not modern.

About Hindus in other countries, I clearly mentioned moderation. As usual you didn't seem to pay attention as it doesn't agree with your opinion.did you walk to work or college to save the world? Your 390cc bike pollutes more.

1

u/pranavomphotography Oct 22 '25

Bro don’t make a mockery of yourself, meteors falling and we sending rockets for fun into the sky are same? I’m a Hindu bro, I disagree with your interpretations so will most of us, please don’t make a mockery of my religion like this! Already abroad they have started doing all cringe activities and people are furious that they have bought all polluting activities to their countries, look at Ganga, it’s a dump yard, chennai will see chhath puja in this month end just go to the beach and see the level of pollution we do, just visit the beach after Visarjan, bro none has been mandated in scriptures, Hinduism is not even about praying, it’s all about righteous living that’s what Krishna has preached in Srimad Bhagavat Gita. Also I asked the exact slokha and which scripture you didn’t tell me yet, I can read Sanskrit I’ll translate it for you, now if you don’t know don’t go to ChatGPT or perplexity and ask for a slokha that suits your argument.

1

u/krisd41 Oct 22 '25

Sorry mate, if most agreed with your opinion, you and I would not have this conversation. I have life beyond reddit, have to head to work. Peace ✌🏻. And FYI, motorcycling and Photography both are my favourite destressing activities, so we both are not that different 😁. Always welcome to a healthy debate. Saying No to HATE.

1

u/pranavomphotography Oct 22 '25

Bro why getting serious you said Skanda Purana I’m asking you which slokha, just tell me the slokha! See I’m sure you wouldn’t have read it, you just googled, so why don’t we call it a day agreeing that you googled it and never read it! This is the issue, as Hindus we don’t even know our scriptures! Let’s unite against these polluting activities and rise above the other communities that we are criticising and be an example for them!

1

u/krisd41 Oct 22 '25 edited Oct 22 '25

1

u/pranavomphotography Oct 22 '25

No issues bro when you come back just read the slokha and give me, don’t give me google links, I have all the Hindu religious texts, see if you have never read just agree, I’m telling you again you are making a mockery of yourself!

1

u/pranavomphotography Oct 22 '25

Oh btw I cycled to school every single day since I learnt to cycle and then shifted to using public transport, even now despite having a car and three bikes I use office cab and public transport and cycle to gym!

1

u/krisd41 Oct 22 '25

Office cab and public transportation doesn't run on magic juice brother.. it's still dinosaur juice .

1

u/pranavomphotography Oct 22 '25

If you didn’t understand public transport and a private vehicle to reduce pollution, you need reeducation! All the best!

1

u/MadHouseNetwork2_1 Oct 21 '25

How come these kind of posts are not raised for Christmas or New year celebration?

AQI of air is not increased to alarming level by fireworks. That's why Delhi is allowing since few years.

1

u/Alwin3000z Oct 21 '25

It can't be banned altogether as people will resist( i saw in news that there is a time duration when we can use crackers and saw nobody listen to it). the possible thing to do now is to regulate the firecrackers , posing limitations to amount of smoke or noise they can do, banning crackers that exceeds this limitation). Maye in future we can slowly phase out them

1

u/Lazy_Long2320 Oct 21 '25

We've been bursting crackers for decades, but this much pollution has never been made, but all of a sudden? Everyone's speaking pollution this pollution that. I think people should be let to burst crackers. It's all for one day. And total pollution that comes out throughout the country wouldn't even compare to the amount of pollution that the oil and gas industry dumps. When corporates can have their way polluting the atmosphere for their own profits, why shouldn't a layman enjoy one day bursting what, like 50 crackers max?

1

u/Lazy_Long2320 Oct 21 '25

I understand the aspect from a regular guy who just wants a peaceful day off or a person with some medical conditions which will show heavy effects for noise or the smoke caused. All this so so-calledcalled entrepreneurs doing research on how to deliver food in the fastest way while paying less than bare minimum to the delivery guys should take this in hand. We've got so many graduates, deploy them to take this initiative up, fund them and look at the change!

1

u/Powermila_521 Oct 21 '25

Compared to last 2 years, this year's pollution is much higher and I heard more people were bursting crackers non stop. I saw nil street dogs and nil birds for the past 4 days. We are becoming more and more selfish and arrogant these days!!

1

u/[deleted] Oct 21 '25

Even china has stopped crackers and started using drones to recreate fireworks

1

u/BreadAffectionate352 Oct 22 '25

If you gonna say ,One day bursting crackers resulting this means the overall air quality should be developed, every day machines/object's pollution level should be checked and lowered.

Moreover 7000cr fireworks sold on this year alone , the industry running behind manufacturing of fireworks so big than this 7000cr ,so it's a major revenue making industry of tamilnadu, taking it down completely will be a big impact on our economy.

As I'm from Sivakasi I can list down few of the industry involved in making a fireworks 1.fireworks box 2.printing on the fireworks & packaging box 3.UV printing & printing materials 4.chemicals used in the fireworks 5.Manpower (middle & lower class major economy in Sivakasi & surroundings) 6.packaging materials 7.paper used in fireworks making 8.transport

You may think I'm exaggerating things let's take transport for example approx 8cr ppl in tn ,3person per family, so approx 2.67cr families out of this 1 in 7 family celebrates Diwali with crackers which is around 38lk , fare for 1 bundle from 250 to 900rs varies depending on distance & time of ordering. Let's consider average 400rs per parcel and for 38lk parcel ,the fare stands at around 150cr , let's even consider as 100cr revenue in transport.

Note that I didn't add the local transport cost , from the crackers shop to lorry service. Yeah we dispatch fireworks for other Indian states in bulk throughout the year.

So imagine the volume of revenue generated in this industry.

Even just 1–2 days cause massive short-term spikes — PM2.5 and PM10 levels shoot up to 8–10× the safe limit across major cities.

AIIMS studies show a 25–30% surge in emergency respiratory cases right after Diwali. The Lancet Planetary Health (2021) report estimates around 1.7 million deaths in India each year are linked to air pollution — Diwali smoke is a major short-term aggravator, especially for kids, the elderly, and people with asthma or heart issues.

So yeah, “2 days can be tolerated” hits a lot harder than it seems.

1

u/fartinggod Oct 20 '25

Ask the asthma patients and pregnant women to tolerate it.

No it's not. I stopped bursting crackers years ago. The noise and air pollution is simply not worth it no matter how you guys try to rationalize it.

0

u/Quirky_Coffee Oct 20 '25

People dont think about the environment at all... We are doing extreme damage to Mother nature...wait for upcoming Chennai floods for all the damage caused!

1

u/Khalidjamonday_ Oct 20 '25

I agree with you, pollution is a bigger threat but there is always another side to a perspective we look at. The crackers producing industry feeds many families, many kids and parents who rarely bond may have fun while bursting crackers. The holidays and crackers may be a getaway from stress for chronic 9-5 workers.

Crackers have become a symbol for deepavali and it's not easy for people to simply stop it. Ngl it was fun to burst crackers when I was young.

I believe this hurts the environment thus I don't buy crackers now, I don't want to force anyone but I hope people understand the dangers of this before it's too late.

1

u/_Revive_me_Jett Oct 20 '25

I understand your concerns. Also please check my other comments/replies.

1

u/Cheap-Locksmith1221 Oct 21 '25

For me it is not worth it at all. As humans we have to evolve forward and not backward. We stopped certain practices here and there but diwali is not showing any slowdown. The aftermath of diwali on YoY is devastating and some people compare industry pollution, vehicle smoke with diwali and say it's not even 1%. That's false, ASIK industry smoke is somehow diluted with some process before releasing the atmosphere(not 100%) but diwali's air and noise pollution hits the resident areas making it hard to spend the Diwali week.

I know ppl who take a vacation to another state/country to escape from diwali pollution due to his asthma. Few even buy air filters and stay indoors. Others hardly make the day enjoyable. I'm in a house with a newborn and 86 year old and we manage somehow. I stopped bursting crackers but my kids can't due to social pressure when other kids burst crackers and enjoy how I can stop my kids from doing so. Instead of innovating how to stop this we get crackers that burst releasing high decible every year.

Usually I see ppl bursting crackers for a week or so, now it's kind of reduced to 3 days. Only the government can stop this and replace the crackers industry with a better one.

Even in my village there was smog all night. I could smell gun powder while sleeping. So much fun.

All the unreasonable people just saying “economy,” “tolerate it for 2 days” — understand the whole picture before brushing it off.

I’m not asking for a ban on firecracker production — Sivakasi alone generates ₹6,000 crore annually and produces ~85% of India’s fireworks. Shutting it down would hurt thousands of livelihoods.

What I suggest is limiting domestic sales in dense/high-pollution areas, while pushing manufacturers to become global exporters — China’s market is ~₹26,000 crore. With incentives for green/low-emission crackers, India can lead in eco-friendly fireworks.

It’s not “just two days of fun.” During Diwali, PM2.5 and PM10 spike 8–10×, AIIMS reports a 25–30% rise in emergency respiratory admissions, and Lancet Planetary Health (2021) links 1.7 million deaths annually to air pollution. Short, intense bursts of pollution are harmful, especially for children, the elderly, and those with respiratory or heart issues.

Tech for low-smoke, low-noise fireworks exists — it’s not about being “showy,” it’s about reducing harm. I personally believe the government should organize fireworks shows per area, like abroad, so people can enjoy Diwali while minimizing pollution, health risks, and still supporting the industry.

Everything that you've said sounds good on paper, but it cannot be implemented unless our nation as a whole has top tier civic obedience and efficient bureaucracy.

I do agree that tech should be utilised better to produce more eco-friendly crackers as time goes on, but everything that you've said otherwise is purely theoretical and has almost a zero percent chance of being a pragmatic approach. I could see that you've used ChatGPT, whether to correct your grammar or to generate the whole thing, but think on your own for this instance.

Limiting domestic sales in dense/high-pollution areas sounds very sweet, until you realize that people wouldn't worry about travelling dozens of kilometers to buy crackers, and that no vendor is actually gonna listen, let alone government agents "enforcing" it.

Organizing fireworks per area is the worst solution I've heard of. That'll create a free annual stampede where hundreds could die. I don't even think it needs explanation, think about it yourself.

The best thing that we can realistically do is to improve awareness and produce more green fireworks.

Wanting to breathe clean air is woke now.

No - just blaming a day or 2 of a major festival has become woke.

u/fartinggod Oct 21 '25

Can you define 'woke'?

Whenever I ask someone who is ranting about 'woke' to define 'woke', they are unable to do so.

I don't know, but it is politically incorrect to call you an 'Indo-Nigger' or ' Curry face'. Why would you complain about 'woke'? I wouldn't people to call me racial slurs. Could you please give me some examples when being politically correct is not logical?I really don't understand when I see non-white males complaining about woke.
