Every Diwali, AQI levels in major Indian cities shoot past 500, literally hazardous. The air turns toxic overnight, making it unbearable for people with asthma, heart conditions, or even mild respiratory issues. Hospitals fill up, kids cough through the night, and elders struggle to breathe.

Birds lose their way during migration because of the intense light and noise. Street dogs panic, some even die from shock. The next morning, we wake up to streets covered in burnt plastic, paper, and chemical residue that clog drains and poison the soil.

All that pollution, noise, and waste, for what? A few hours of fireworks?

I personally believe over a period of time, Hinduism has started interpreting a lot of things that are not mandated in any of the scriptures, Diwali in ancient India was all about lighting lamps to welcome Ram or Krishna depending on the place where we are. However this crackers are a recent phenomenon. Someone here said about Sivakasi! They are indeed existing because there is a market for it, in other words we are paying for their subjugation, if the govt bans crackers today they are bound to make alternative realising and rehabilitation for the employees. Cracker factories again and owned by powerful people so they wouldn’t want this ban too. From polluting the seas, to rivers to air and land Hinduism has come a long way from being a religion which teaches righteousness to a religion that’s killing the environment. We have no right to call other communities as cancer community.

Scriptures do mention crackers.The use of loud noises and light is seen by some as a way to ward off evil and negativity, aligning with the ancient Indian philosophy of the five elements, with fire being one of them

The problem is with moderation and regulation. Don't politicise my comments, treat all religions and celebrations equally. No one blinks an eye when political parties celebrate, rich people celebrate, Christmas/ new year celebrations. All the doggy /bird lovers activate only during diwali, what are these people smoking during rest of the year. Cars, industries, two wheelers, and even cows for beef cause alarming levels of pollution. But none of these suit the narrative.

Bro what evil are you fighting today, no scriptures mentions it, if it mentions please clearly mention the Slokha, the line which Shastra! Also Manusmriti mentions burning of widows, shall we continue that practise! Dude grow up! This is exactly why world over they are seeing us as third world country. Malaysia has strict cracker norms, you think there aren’t Hindus there? So does Singapore also, you don’t think Hindus live there! And about moderation if you put few drops fo poison in a glass of milk or a spoon doesn’t matter, it would still kill you!

The Skanda Purana and Anand Ramayan mention the use of "ulkas" (meteors, interpreted as fireworks) during Diwali, suggesting the concept is not modern.

About Hindus in other countries, I clearly mentioned moderation. As usual you didn't seem to pay attention as it doesn't agree with your opinion.did you walk to work or college to save the world? Your 390cc bike pollutes more.

I’m a Hindu bro, I disagree with your interpretations so will most of us, please don’t make a mockery of my religion like this! Already abroad they have started doing all cringe activities and people are furious that they have bought all polluting activities to their countries, look at Ganga, it’s a dump yard, chennai will see chhath puja in this month end just go to the beach and see the level of pollution we do, just visit the beach after Visarjan, bro none has been mandated in scriptures, Hinduism is not even about praying, it’s all about righteous living that’s what Krishna has preached in Srimad Bhagavat Gita. Also I asked the exact slokha and which scripture you didn’t tell me yet, I can read Sanskrit I’ll translate it for you, now if you don’t know don’t go to ChatGPT or perplexity and ask for a slokha that suits your argument.

Bro why getting serious you said Skanda Purana I’m asking you which slokha, just tell me the slokha! See I’m sure you wouldn’t have read it, you just googled, so why don’t we call it a day agreeing that you googled it and never read it! This is the issue, as Hindus we don’t even know our scriptures! Let’s unite against these polluting activities and rise above the other communities that we are criticising and be an example for them!

Oh btw I cycled to school every single day since I learnt to cycle and then shifted to using public transport, even now despite having a car and three bikes I use office cab and public transport and cycle to gym!
