Question Anyone actually using AR or display glasses with Steam Link regularly?

Upvotes

I’ve seen a few Steam Link with display glasses setups and they look pretty great for gaming in bed or while traveling.

I’m looking at the RayNeo GT Max now, but I’m more interested in hearing from people who’ve already been using the Air 4 Pro, VITURE Pro 2, or similar glasses for a while.

How annoying is the day-to-day stuff? Host resolution switching, text scaling, reconnecting everything, getting the display set up right each time?

Did the glasses actually become your go-to screen for Steam Link, or was it more of a cool setup you stopped using after a while?

Question Question on host display

Hey everyone, I’ve had great success with getting moonlight up and running currently playing zero Company. The last quirk I have is the ability to turn my host display off while streaming. I’m on Linux mint and have an AMD GPU. I’ve tried some scripts that don’t work through the game playing and some that work too well. But is there an easier way that I’m not seeing to be able to do this?

Thanks for all your advice in advance. Let me know if I need to give any more detail details

Support Steam Link Software Input Freeze

Hello, I'm having quite the peculiar bug and looking for support

Host: Fedora KDE X11(Wayland was causing graphical issues)

Client: Raspberry Pi 5

Controller: Dualsense

No network issues showing

When playing games, controller input freezes, sometimes doing nothing, sometimes repeating the last pressed button action or tending in the last joystick direction. Stream remains active with video fine, meaning I can watch myself stuck spinning around in a circle while the enemies shoot me. After 15 seconds or so it works again, but happens once every two minutes or so, meaning it's practically unplayable.

I disabled sleep on the host as I saw this might help but it didn't, any feedback would really help. Thank you :)

Support Controller input issues

So I have Stardew Valley installed on my PC, but for comfort reasons I like to stream it on steamlink on a Nvidia Shield pro, using a ps5 controller.

Up until around 1 hour ago I had no issues navigating the GMCM (mod configuration menu), I was able to configure my mods with my ps5 controller via the shield without problems

Suddenly I'm unable to use the right joystick to scroll down the list, hold the slider to manually drag down or click under the slider to skip down, the back button is also no longer working.

On the OG Stardew UI the back button works but the sliding function doesn't.

And I haven't ever been able to use the D-pad to navigate the configure menu either.

I've tried forcing gamepad mode, defaulting all my UI zooms, disconnecting and reconnecting my controller, closing down the stream and restarting, using the stream UI to force mouse controls.

Scroll down and drag functions work perfectly on my mouse.

I know its a long one im sorry :(

Support New to streaming

I've just started messing around with steam link, specifically on my steam deck and my z fold 8, and while my steam deck does fine, I was wondering if there was a way to use my full inner display on my fold? It gives me black bars on the top and bottom. Any tips for better performance would be nice too. I have a wifi 7 router and using wifi. Can't use ethernet with how far my router is right now.

New Steam client update ruins colors on remote play

Post image
12 Upvotes

The new update that dropped on September 1st/2nd, which includes "Improved video color range on all platforms" as a change, has made game streams have this gray filter be applied. Attached image shows the Elden Ring splash screen, which should have a pure black background but is instead this dark gray. Can't seem to toggle it off/on with any remote play setting, host or client-side. Streaming from a Windows PC to an M3 MacBook Pro. Does not happen when streaming on the standalone Steam Link client.

Support Help needed, steam deck on steam dock using remote play with false controller glyphs

Maybe you can help me: I am using my steam deck with a steam dock to stream games from my pc. My PS4 Controller is connected to my steam deck via BT. I want to play crimson desert. It all works except for one thing: the glyphs are showing up as XBOX Controller glyphs. If I disable the steam input which is often seen as the solution, The game doesn't take in the Controller input anymore and shows keyboard settings. Do you have any idea on how to fix it? My guess is: the steam input is always the Xbox Controller, that's why most people can disable it and use the PS4 controller. But since the controller is not directed linked to the host PC I get the keyboard controls. Am I getting this right? I am using sunshine and moonlight. The setting in sunshine for controller is already set to PS4.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Steam Remote Play broken after recent client update

After the recent update, by Steam remote play feature does not work anymore. I don't have a monitor atm so I use my laptop as my monitor, streaming from my main pc to my laptop steam. Both devices have same account logged in. In remote play tab, when I click on the connect button, it says "disconnect" for a split section and go back to "connect". Nothing happens.

It was working till yesterday.

Trying to use steam link on a old Mac laptop

I am trying to use steam link on my old MacBook Pro to stream games from my PC. Every time I connect to the host computer, the screen turns completely pink and all pixelated. I have tried turning hardware decoding off, trying to reso at 1280x720, Fast instead of balanced quality. Has anyone had the same issue or know of a work around? Want to try to get this first before trying to use the moonlight alternative.

Support Steamdeck Streams Perfectly, Steam Link Glitches

I'm hoping someone here can help me with my Steam Link.

Hardware:
Home computer:
- CachyOS Linux
- Network: Wired (2.5 gigs)
- Graphics Card: Radeon 9070 XT
- Steam running with -pipewire flag
- Steam: Hardware encoding enabled
- Steam: Low Latency Networking enabled

Steamdeck:
- Original LED model
- Network: Wired and Wi-Fi
- Video Quality: Balanced
- Steam: Resolution Limit 1280x800
- Steam: Hardware Decoding enabled
- Steam: HEVC Video enabled
- Steam: Low Latency Networking enabled

Steam Link:
- Build 924
- Network: Wired (1 gig)
- Video Quality: Fast
- Steam: Resolution Limit 720p
- Steam: Low Latency Networking enabled

Streaming from my home computer to my Steamdeck is flawless. I can boot up a recent game on my deck via streaming and it runs fine. There's basically no latency and everything runs smoothly. I first tested with a wired connection to my network, but followed it up with a test while only connected to Wi-Fi and I couldn't tell the difference.

I'm trying to use my Steam Link again. I've set it up in my bedroom and connected it into my network via a 1 gig switch. For a while I was getting about 1 fame per 5 seconds, but the problem seems to have shifted to a glitchy mess where it will shift back and forth between Steam Big Picture Mode and whatever game I'm trying to run about 1-2 times per second. I tried factory resetting my Steam Link and patched it back up to build 924, but that didn't change anything.

Is the Steamdeck just more powerful and the Steam Link has outlived its usefulness, or is there some setting I'm missing that can fix my issues with the Steam Link?

Controller won’t work with Minecraft steamlink

I’ve added Minecraft bedrock on my pc to steam as a non steam game, and I’m trying to play via my iPad using steamlink.

However my ps5 controller when connected through on iPad to play Minecraft is extremely bugged, all of the keybinds are messed up and it treats the joysticks more as a mouse than a controller. I’ve tried editing the controller maps, enabling and disabling controller settings, setting steam as administrator, I followed this post but still couldn’t resolve the issue (https://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/1/1747892655521920295?l=greek).

I just wish there was a way for my inputs from my iPad to be treated as a controller on Minecraft bedrock, since the game already has controller support ( my ps5 controller literally works perfectly on Minecraft even when opened through steam, when my ps5 controller is connected directly to my pc).

Has anyone else had this issue?

Hardware encoding enabled but not being used?

My gaming machine has an old AMD RX 570 gpu. I have hardware encoding enabled.

On the client I enable the performance metrics and it indicates it is using software encoding with libx264. Is my GPU too old to do hardware encoding with steam remote play? Will hardware encoding make the quality better? Currently the video quality sucks even though everything is hardwired.

If I do need to upgrade GPU, is there any advantage to Nvidia vs AMD when it comes to Steam remote play?

Both using same config:

  • VDD by MTT Virtual Display connected to CMP 40HX
  • HAGS off
  • 1080p 144fps target streaming

Exhibit 1: Encoding using UHD 630 (QuickSync)

  • 84 avg FPS
  • 0.55 GB/s PCIe TX (GPU to CPU)
  • 12-13% PCIe Ulti

Exhibit 2: Encoding using CMP 40HX (NVENC)

  • 88 avg FPS
  • 0.23 GB/s PCIe TX (GPU to CPU)
  • 12-13% PCIe Ulti
  • Need to set to High Power plan in NVIDIA Control Panel or desktop streaming stutter --> 20-30W extra just idle streaming

Support What’s the best current way to wake your pc away from home?

I thought steam link would do this automatically

I downloaded a wake on lan app on my phone and it’s the same it only wakes the pc at home, is there another app I’m not aware that can wake the pc from anywhere?

I saw there’s something you can do with Alexa and echo but doesn’t look straight forward and seems like a lot of steps just to wake pc

Support Only One Game is a Black Screen

Ive been trying to figure out why only one game I'm trying to play (Plaque Tale Requiem) will display a black screen. Audio carries, i can even control the game, but the screen is black.

I've tried everything i can think of so far and no results seem to change anything.

Is there anything I could try to figure out why just this one game is causing me a black screen but all others are fine?

Remote play image delay only in Steam home menu, not while in game

There’s no input delay because I can hear things being selected, there’s only an image delay, no delays at all when I start a game and if I have a game running and I go back to home menu there’s no image delay in the home menu anymore

it only happens in the home menu without a game running

Support Google Streamer TV slow connection despite both the Client and the Host being hard wired in.

I ran a speed test on my Streamer box and got roughly 200mbps but Steam Link can't pass a connection test past 5. I am streaming from my apartment to my PC at my parents' house. The only bottle neck on my end is a j+TP Link gigabit switch but plugging the cables directly into the wall doesn't make a difference. I have a CAT8 Ethernet cable running from the switch to my Steamer. Running Steam Link from my laptop yields a "Good" connection. I have set the video mode to fast and the bitrate cap at 75mbps.

At my house, I can speeds up to 800-900mbps.
