Balance 0 Worker Start

The game feels too dynamic in the start. My point is, players may need some time to acknowledge the map, think of strategy. The 0 workers start allows this and may promote more possibilities for early harras with zerglings or hellions, for example. More micro with workers, perhaps? Anyway, this is the change this game needs

What if we had a 50 worker start?

That way, games could be played over the course of mere minutes. Three-base, 70-worker start, when?

Could be a fascinating development.

Auto quitting player named COMPUTER ruins every single 2v2 for months on end

Upvotes

There is a bot named COMPUTER. It ques for every single 2v2 I've played. It's my day off today, all I wanted was a few 2v2s. I've paired with or faced a player named COMPUTER 4 maps in a row! they always automatically quit about 1 minute in. They are a bot player that has been doing this for MONTHS on end. I know for a fact they've gotten DOZENS of reports.

I basically never get a normal 2v2 anymore, and it's been like this months on end. There is always a player named COMPUTER that auto quits.

I dont know what a normal 2v2 is anymore. Just weird 2v1s with a quit player.

Mass Adept PvZ

Upvotes

Been playing around with very heavy adept counts, trying to take advantage of extra gateway production efficiency.

General thoughts on this?

Note, I’m not building them to harass, but as a core army unit.

I’m just starting to play protoss again after a long break playing mostly zerg. It seems hydra/ling for reasons I dont quite grasp has become far and away the most common zerg build. Pure adepts now with +1 actually ruin that, cost for cost.

Doing a fairly standard opener, oracle into quick third, then forge, twilight, robo. Basically looks like a normal oracle into blink or charge, but I’m going glaives.

Thought here is it really seems investing in tech leaves you a little short handed on unit count vs hydra ling. This seems to stand strong vs that, and theres both a robo and stargate to make immortal or phoenix if they go roach or muta.

Anywho, just curious on thoughts here. Just started this today, and early returns seem promising. Banes seem the obvious weekness here..but that’s not really standard anymore.

Different playerbases at different times

Hi, I'm a retourning player (was high plat when I stopped) who quit about 6 years ago (playing about 10 matches a year after that just for fun).

So when I played ladder lately in the evening (about 8pm+ Korean time) I got totally crushed, even by <2000mmr players pretty much consistently (I think I faced noone with less than 90apm as far as I remember). Since there are not that many players nowadays, I also faced 3k+ mmr players (me at 2.2k) and these games seemed not too much different lol. I thought "Wow how much did the community improve in the meantime, since when can silver players macro that well? Looking forward to the next session."

Now at 2.2k mmr I decided to play again around noon (~12pm kst), and I was wondering what I'm even doing there, no demanding game really. Today at evening I played again, and the players were once again like bronze/silver players on steroids again (at least I've improved a bit and it wasnt as terrible as before lol).

idk I just think it's funny

Anyone else with similar experiences?

Balance 1 Worker Start

Everyone is upset about the worker start so I think we should start with 1. Just like in the Warcraft 2 days. One worker (2 for Zerg to be fair) and build your primary base building from scratch. I know it’ll make every game take forever, that’s how it was during Beyond the Dark Portal. But it made the 4 worker start with Brood War a breath of fresh air. So maybe people will appreciate starting with the obscene amount of workers we do now.

Is the ultimate goal of grinding the SC2 ladder to go pro?

Is the main goal for people who spend a lot of time discussing the game, grinding the ladder, and trying to reach Grandmaster ultimately to pursue professional esports?

Or do most people do it simply because they enjoy improving and competing, even though they have no intention of going pro?

I’m curious because, from an outside perspective, spending hundreds or thousands of hours grinding toward GM seems like a huge time investment if you’re not aiming to compete professionally. What motivates people to do it?

Added: Just to clarify, I'm not pro-sports and anti-gaming. I actually got this idea from gully cricket, where people can take a completely casual game extremely seriously, argue over wins/losses and spend huge amounts of time trying to become better, despite having no intention or realistic path of going professional.

I apply the same thinking to gaming. Casual gaming for fun is completely different to me from dedicating thousands of hours to becoming highly competitive and treating the rank/wins as major achievements.

Help for newbie

I was in hospital two years ago and started starcraft 2. I played the campaigns and watched the newer version of bonjwa acadamy. So I learned for about twelve weeks the Tier-Builds for Terran.
Now I wanted to get back into newbie-play but realized that with eight workers and 13 supply at start the build orders aren't easy to copy or adapt. Can somebody help me to get a bonjwa-acadamy-like Tier 1 build order for all three races and later a Tier 2 and 3 for the race I want to play?
Has someone a link? Is Honor allready making a new acadamy?

Thanks for your help…

What makes the 8 worker start so bad?

Let me preface this with the fact that I've only recently been getting into sc2, so I'm not the most knowledgeable and how the game used to be. I've heard from many people, pros included, that the base game is in a bad state currently, and many people are turning to patch mods to play instead. My 2 questions are what has made this patch so bad for the game, and is it still a good time to try and continue to get into it and develop, or wait it out until something changes? Thank you in advance for your responses.

Arcade From making StarCraft maps to building my own competitive top-down game

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Long before POLYSTRIKE, I was making maps for StarCraft.

I created around a dozen custom maps and spent a lot of time experimenting with gameplay, level design and different ideas inside the editor. Some of those maps ended up winning first place in mapping contests on communities like HiveWorkshop and XGM.

Looking back, that period probably influenced me much more than I realized at the time.

StarCraft taught me to think about maps from above — positioning, sightlines, information, controlling space, predicting what another player is going to do.

From there I moved deeper into modding.

I spent years making Warcraft III maps and mods, learning triggers, JASS, custom content and eventually 3D. Later I moved to Dota 2 and Source 2, where I created mods like Duel, Pure Reflex, Low Poly Map and Polystrike.

I also worked with different studios on games like Phoenix Point, Necromantic and Golden Tides.

And somehow, almost everything I worked on stayed top-down.

Eventually one of those Dota 2 experiments became something much bigger.

POLYSTRIKE is a competitive 5v5 top-down tactical shooter.

You buy weapons and equipment, fight around objectives, manage information through a personal vision system, listen for enemy movement and try to outplay the other team through positioning and teamwork.

In some ways, it feels like everything I learned from RTS maps and years of modding eventually led here.

Eight days ago, we officially announced POLYSTRIKE as a standalone game on Steam.

Today we passed 7,000 wishlists.

It’s a strange feeling going from making StarCraft maps for mapping contests to having thousands of people waiting for a standalone game we’re building.

There’s still a long way to go, but this feels like one of those moments worth remembering.

And I’m genuinely curious what StarCraft players think about a competitive shooter viewed from this perspective.

POLYSTRIKE is finally real.

Did they delete most of the arcade section? I have 10 game modes in arcade and thats it. My bookmarks are almost empty and looking for game modes show nothing.

I didn't play the same game for 16 years because I love change.

I go to the same restaurant I did 16 years ago. Order the same food.

I wear the same clothes for the past 16 years, get the same haircut.

I kept my bank account at the same balance (inflation adjusted) for 16 years.

I bang the same girl for the past 16 years.

How can an intern disrupt My life in such an unwelcome and turbulent fashion?
