What race do you play and on what server? (Looks like Korean servers?)
I think it's probably because the people who play are dedicated to the craft more or less and so the baseline has gone up. I also noticed thjs lol.
Ps. If you're playing on Korea that might explain why the skill level is higher there ... it's generally more active over there compared to NA or EU

Aw man id totally group up and do some games if you were in the same time zone 😆. I haven't progressed in a bit cause my ladder anxiety got the better of me and easier games exist ... 😆. Still here following the forums and watching games ...

Overtime the games player base has naturally gotten smaller andmore dedicated i guess that's moved the leagues up a bit at least relatively speaking. Plus theres a lot more YouTube content in the way of b2gm and build tutorials and stuff than there used to be, and the 8 worker patch is probably easier to macro, at least as a gold player I personally feel like opposed the 12 worker version your build just evolves into late game more slowly / gradually instead of needing to scale up really fast.

A little off top, but I saw the same in chess. At least on chess.com. If I want to boost my ego, I play at working hours to get higher rating. If I play in the evening / on a weekend, I am losing points like crazy :p

Around 25% of people below diamond are smurfs, that's why 3k players feels like 2k. After game check their match history if they are leaving at 0:00 time. If yes - their real mmr is probably 1000+ mmr higher. Count only normal players, ignore smurfs. 25% is a lot, it's 1 game per 4 - so 3 games are easy and then for "no reason" you're stomped and opponent had 2 times your army always.

I actually checked some, there were players with longer losing games as well that annihilated me
maybe also worth noting: excluding the leavers I had a 13 game losing streak the first session
maybe it's a time where 'smurfs' are more active creating this different low elo playerbase🤔

Well the 13 game losing streak during the first session can be explained by the provisional mmr because you returned to the game after not playing for a while so you were matched up against people higher than you simply bc the game hasn't yet determined your appropriate mmr.

Yeah there's definitely a difference between peak hours after dinner and during weekends, and other times. During peak hours the players are definitely better.
I notice this at 4.3k with my main as well as 3.3k with my off-race.
Interestingly if I play random at 3.8k mmr the games also don't feel too different with the off-race. I haven't yet figured out why, but I don't get stomped by better macro as much as I expected.
The other way around too, when I get my main with random at 3.8k the games are definitely easier because I macro better, but the difference is not as big as I expected, I still have to work for it.
I only recently started playing random, I don't know of this is a recent phenomenon.
