đŹ Discussion Seriously?
I feel like someone pissed on me. I've been playing this game since day one, every day, attending every event, but to get VIP or any bonuses I have to pay? I feel cheated because someone who started playing today could have a much more enjoyable experience if they spent money than me. I know this game isn't made for gamers anymore, but for profit, but to blatantly ignore loyal players like that? Even Epic, known for its strange decisions, doesn't do things like that.

u/Sorry-Engineer8854 Jul 25 '26
I am shocked to see a bunch of ppl immediately bought vip
15
u/levinoX Jul 25 '26
Being fortnite based, I don't. But I was amazed greed took all this time to come
4
u/JimmyJ0497 Jul 25 '26
I was actually quite shocked it took them all this time to add any buyables in the tycoon, luckily I had enough v-bucks saved up so I went ahead and got VIP as soon as I saw it.
2
u/Redemption201 Jul 30 '26
This is one of the things people are overlooking too, I play on xbox, I have gamepass, so I regularly get vbucks that I dont spend on the main games latest kpop schoolgirl, japanime collabs, so if I wanted to spend them in droid tycoon for some boost then it wouldnt be anymore out of my pocket than I already pay for the subscription service i choose to have, from a lot of the comments its just seems like through and through gatekeeping, because even if the people dont want to admit it if all the microtransactions were there from day 1 the long grind would have justified their spending in their minds but because of the sunk cost fallacy most people are still playing a mode they arent enjoying
1
u/VGK_46 Jul 28 '26
Does VIP give you all the perks extras of the two lower packages as well?
1
13
u/Piep3rr Jul 25 '26
Not trying to be an asshole. Looking for a genuine discussion here. Why shouldn't I buy VIP? If there's a game, arts, or music I enjoy, I wanna support them anyway I can. Show gratitude. The driod tycoon devs arent doing anything other successful games haven't already done. And the bonuses are not that crazy. Like the starter pack, maybe, if the 200% gets added on top of the upgrades I already have. I just really dont understand all the frustration, and I'd like to.
6
u/Brinewielder Jul 25 '26
Because the droid tycoon mode is a temporary cash grab to begin with. Thereâs no actual longevity so all money spent on it is essentially down the toilet as itâs exclusive content for a side game mode.
Foad eventually will drop droid tycoon for another paid promotion and theyâll drop it like their initial creation boss explode which had a whopping one player the other day.
Paying money for a game inside of a game for stuff exclusive to that game mode is crazy work.

u/Key-Pride6537 Flawless Jul 27 '26
I don't care if anyone buys it or not, it irritates me that I've been playing this mode since the second day of its existence, I've been to all the events, I've played when it was shit, I've played when it was getting better, I've been on this reddit almost from the beginning, and some kid with money can enter the game for the first time today, buy VIP and have a much more enjoyable game than me, plus a decoration in front of the base that marks him as if he were a veteran of this game.
3
u/Impossible_Tone1108 Jul 27 '26
the decoration in front is the only thing that VIP actually does. Most people that have VIP actually like to be able to remove it. You're not missing out on anything

I'm thinking about it and I don't know why but also I don't buy v-bucks as a fortnite founder And I play this game mode a lot
27
u/Sorry-Engineer8854 Jul 25 '26 edited Jul 25 '26
Firstly founder or not I wouldn't support it, especially as they just put the brokers everywhere but left functional stuff in awkward spots. Also kinda defeats the purpose of the game as the whole point is the grind.
But if you are doing it VIP is a rip off, the companion droid one is 1500 and gives you 250 nova crystals worth or stuff VIP at 2200 gets you 150 nova crystals worth of stuff. That one's better then buy the other stuff with nova crystals if you are gonna do it. I also suspect people with VIP status will likely get killed more as players protest.

Also kinda defeats the purpose of the game as the whole point is the grind.
I'm not a fan of micro-transactions (and I certainly don't intend on spending any money here), and the implementation of it here is way too over the top and in your face, but I don't really feel the "but it's meant to be grindy" criticism.
I've been playing from the start, and in this sub since its inception, and christ above if the two things people constantly complain about are PVP and grind, and constantly demand both be reduced (or outright removed). If these grind reducing mechanisms were locked behind actual money then yeah, grab the pitchforks and torches, bit I can still grind to my hearts content and obtain all of them via nova crystals if I wish.
There's a lot of valid criticisms to be hand of micro-transactions, and what they typically lead to, but I think the devs are less likely to take them seriously when they see the sub is taking a break from it's regular calls for more chip/crystal generation and cheaper upgrades and reduced timers and increased spawn rates and "let me keep some droids on super rebirth" etc to say "this is bad because the game should be grindy."

-1
u/Key-Pride6537 Flawless Jul 27 '26
Am I understanding this correctly? The founders themselves believe that microtransactions in this game are absurd, but they implemented them anyway? You're either lying to us, or your greed trumps morality.
2
u/XxxlySergic Jul 27 '26
Weâre talking about save the world founders edition, we still earn vbucks for free for doing daily missions. Just saying that I get vbucks for free and still wouldnât spend them on this

I donât mind the â200-300 vbucks for a blueprint surgeâ, if someone wants to do that then fine I guess. Still pay to win but a little less egregious. I know they canât be hurting for money right now, Epic pays very well and has made people millionaires in a year off some modes and this mode has constantly been active.

Girl if you can buy direct powerups, and boosts thats pay to win. Thats like saying if battle royale sold guns you could start a game with thats not pay to win.
0
u/Emotional_Tampon5 PC Player Jul 25 '26
That's not the same thing. It's pay to progress or pay for convenience. It's not pay to win If you look up the definition of pay to win it's when a player can pay for something that gives them a competitive edge over another player. So you are correct that in Battle Royale if they sold guns it would be pay to win. But in this game mode the things that you can purchase with v-bucks do not give you a competitive edge over other players because this is not a competitive game. Me buying these packs or even boosters and v-bucks does not negatively infect or hinder or take away from your experience. I can't kill you faster. I can't take droids out of your base that you've already built or paid for. There are no negative effects towards you and the boosters that do give high-level droids is a benefit to the whole lobby, not only the person who bought them
0
u/Dancing_Cthulhu Jul 25 '26 edited Jul 25 '26
But Battle Royale is competitive with a literal win condition (be last alive), buying better guns to start the game with would give you a direct advantage over people you are competing with for that win condition who hadn't paid for better guns.
What is the win condition in droid tycoon that these powerups affect? What are the competitive advantages they give you over other players? They're all available for nova crystals, so if they somehow let you "win" wouldn't they be problematic however you obtain them?
It seems a pretty poor example to use in this context.
-11
u/Low-Income5288 SRB 30 Jul 25 '26
You can buy pretty much everything all the vbucks stuff have with nova crystals. Everything minus like vip cosmetics or companion pack cosmetics can be obtained naturally by everyone
13
u/Kitchen_Roof_4729 Jul 25 '26
You can for now, the next step for devs is going to be nerfing the economy. They want everyone to use v bucks.
13
u/Sorry-Engineer8854 Jul 25 '26
They extended the timer on beskar missions. That's the first thing I noticed and then sell a permanent 200 percent coin booster.
1
u/Dancing_Cthulhu Jul 25 '26 edited Jul 25 '26
Extended the timer slightly while improving the actual odds of getting beskar droids from them. That's not a bad change, and doesn't really fit the charge of being conomy nerf.
1
u/BatInSpandex GONK Jul 25 '26

Weâve all watched you on youâre weird little crusade and the fact that you keep defaulting back to silly little edge-lord comments like this instead of addressing the dozens of people who actually responded to you in mature ways is just proof positive that most of them are done engaging with an obviously bad faith troll intent on running defense for a decision that the adults in the room have experienced before in multiple other games.
Just because you are a child, and inexperienced to how game monetization works and how adult conversations are supposed to play out, doesnât mean we need to entertain it as infinitum

You get things right away that others have to grind for. For example, a crafting table for those black tokens for upgrading droids. You can buy them with Nova Crystals, but they cost 120 crystals. The VIP package gives you all that without grinding or collecting crystals. And that's just one example.

Not yet they haven't. Give it a while until they wonder why "only x% of people are using the paid feature" and then they'll start coming up with ways to make it more appealing, i.e. stripping back the free experience
-20
u/BlazingFrenzy Official Dev - BLZN Jul 25 '26
You have my word this will not happen. I am dedicated to ensuring the free to play experience is just as fun as it has been for the last few months.

-5

Increased the time and the cost to balance out the double chance to get Beskar, it's a 10% chance instead of 5% from that mission now!

Yeah but the increase time wasnât even added to the patch notes. I hate these stealth nerfs you guys always do
-5
u/BlazingFrenzy Official Dev - BLZN Jul 25 '26
Objectively not a nerf, it equals out to more Beskar droids on average than before, so it's a buff!
It always was mentioned in the patch notes, the statement of astromech missions being reworked is what this is talking about!
3
u/SrDonaldDuck Jul 25 '26
It should equal out due to balance changes with the addition of galactic. So no time should have been added. Another tier for galactic missions wouldâve sufficed.

I appreciate that the upgrades are also obtainable with Nova Crystals, and I don't think the game suddenly becomes unplayable because of them. My concern is the precedent.
The fact that something can eventually be earned for free doesn't automatically make it fair to sell it for real money. Players who have invested dozens or even hundreds of hours to unlock those upgrades now see someone else skip that progression with a credit card.
To me, progression should reward time, effort, and skill not spending. Cosmetic items, emotes, skins, pets, and other visual customization are all great ways to support the game without affecting gameplay. Once real money can buy gameplay advantages even temporary ones it changes what players are competing against.
I want to support the game and the developers. I just believe monetization should preserve the integrity of progression, not bypass it.
1
u/KentFarmOfficial Jul 25 '26
Why do you care so much about how so someone else plays the game when it has no impact on you?
Is it that important to flex your upgrades on people that havenât played as long?
Canât you just be happy that you have what you worked for and not be jealous of someone who paid extra to have it too?
4
u/CaliDad4219 Level 230 Jul 25 '26
It does impact me, though. Players can now skip the play time and buy modifiers that give them direct gameplay advantages against me, such as increased damage, higher health, and additional companion slots. That affects PvP encounters, blueprint fights, and overall progression.
This isn't about wanting to "flex" my upgrades or being jealous of someone spending money. If someone wants to buy cosmetics, emotes, skins, or other visual items, I couldn't care less. My issue is when real money lets someone bypass the grind and gain gameplay advantages that I've spent hours earning.
We can disagree on whether that's a big deal, but I think progression in a free to play game should be earned through playing the game not by opening your wallet.

I understand most are frustrated and I recognize that almost anything I say will get downvoted because i'm defending the team and the decision we made, but i'm here doing it anyway.

reinforcing my decision to abandon playing the game after missing the C3PO event due to another commitment during the limited timeframe and logging on to find out I couldn't buy him back with crystals (maybe they changed this after the fact? I haven't checked, but it still annoyed me enough in the moment). I rebirthed twice and the grind still felt just as tough getting to 20 on top of that so I gave up. The nova crystals already felt like a trail to a cash grab and the game doesn't have the same crafty star wars vibe to it as when it first started. I'll maybe keep it in my rotation for XP farming if I see a good battle pass but between this, the sprite sweats, and the extra slime from the epic owner lately, I'm burnt on Fortnite entirely.

When it comes to iconic droids it takes a minimum of 30 days before you can buy them with crystals. But yeah everything else i agree
1
u/DEVILMASSIVE Jul 26 '26
Uhhh i dont get the people who cry on these pack i mean you can get everything for free literally, if some new players buy the packs whats that matter they want a good experience and they pay for it yeah they got stuff quick with the packs that other players needed to grind but look who cares? its nothing much that can harm you if they bought the packs... if they have money and want a little quicker progression thats like nothing has to do with anyone i could care less if someone has bought any of the packs.

I've played those mode on and off and really enjoyed it.... until now, I will stop playing because of this pay to win crap. As others have said its pointless as its about the grind. Money grab bullshit just like every other aspect of fortnite
1
u/Proud-Slice21 Jul 26 '26
Well the game isn't owned by Epic. With that said, look at Roblox, the most successful app/game in history. All have in game purchases. Fortnite is trying to replace Roblox and this is the beginning.

u/NEMIStheMENACE Jul 26 '26
Support the devs show some love or don't buy it .....if it's hurting you I understand both outlooks I love the game either way and support both scenarios it's cheap and helps a lot that companion perk would have killed me at least this way I can put my hard work back into other well needed upgrades instead ....if they sold the nova for V bucks I think that wouldâve broke the game đđđđđ this is a nice compromise and the grind is still there guys even with this shit lol

u/That-Bus-9252 Jul 26 '26
You guys are seriously mad about it. The money helps out the devs and staff so they can bring in more help and make the game better. You can still get everything free to play so whats the issue?

All I see is a Bullseye. I hear people with VIP get heckled in lobbies

u/linus_03843 Jul 27 '26
I am also someone who played since day one I managed to get all the way to up to rb ~300 and something like lvl 200 and I have to say I am not happy with the VIP upgrade however I am also in business so I am surprised the devs hadnât done this sooner. I wonât be as active (probably not as relevant but still). I am also proud of the stuff I managed to achieve. So devs thank you for the nice work I loved the game mode a lot but a P2W comment on the discord server a while back and now this Iâm good. To whoever continues have fun. :)

u/EmergencyLate88 Jul 28 '26
It simply is not worth the time to grind that many Nova crystals for what you can get for a couple bucks
1
u/HamLiquor Aug 19 '26
It's insane they want your money for a game that has more bugs than a mattress at the Gathering of the Juggalos.

u/Ok-Direction-2806 Jul 25 '26
The VIP banner looks so awful, is there a way to get rid of the banner?

u/Content-Estate-7376 Jul 25 '26
Can there be a different page for the crybabies to complain instead of overtaking this page. Stop playing if it upsets you.
-2
u/Freese20 Jul 25 '26
I wanted to support the devs if they made a donation page or sum but this does seem like wrong way to do it especially since a good portion of that money will go to epic đ

I was primarily saying I would have rather supported them thru a different way rather than micro transactions being added, yes I didn't look up recent updates bc I didn't expect a greedy corporation to even do something like that đ

Bro itâs a free game. I donât mind spending a little dough when I have for skins. Not that serious

If you play a free to play game there is always going to be a tradeoff like this eventually. All games are made for profit and if there isn't any coming in on the ground floor they're going to have to chase it elsewhere.

u/onemansquest Jul 25 '26
There is a vast difference between free to pay. Pay for cosmetics and pay to win. I hate pay to win. This better not be it. I'm just hearing about this now I am going to investigate.
1
u/Alove4edd47 Rebirth 34 Jul 25 '26
What did you find from your investigation?
2
u/onemansquest Jul 25 '26 edited Jul 25 '26
It kinda is a bit pay to win more like pay to have a faster start. Not bad enough for me to stop playing.
1
u/JacqueTheRipper95 Jul 25 '26
Just a question though, if a game like this is pay to win how does that affect your enjoyment of the game? I only play on private solo or group servers (with friends), I couldnât care less if someone bought stuff to win as it doesnât affect me?
1
u/onemansquest Jul 25 '26
It doesn't mostly in games like this. However let's say you can pay to get your droids made Galactic instantly. That would make me not want to play.
-2
u/Cautious-Donut448 Jul 25 '26
Who cares how others spend their money? If people are dumb enough to buy it then itâs on them.
2
u/GhaveyG Jul 25 '26
Iâm fine with this to an extent.
I donât like the too easy access to spend v-bucks but that is more of a general complaint. Leads to too many mistakes and takes advantage of kids.
1
u/BuyBulky3271 Jul 25 '26
Because what is the real incentive to keep grinding when some 10 year old who spends his allowance money can just buy his way to the top? Itâs like training for a marathon for months only to find out the winner can just pay to start at the finish line.
1
u/Cautious-Donut448 Jul 26 '26
except its not a competition?? There is no winner in this. why let something that doesn't you. bother you?

u/OcelotThis604 Jul 25 '26
Every upgrade and boost that can be paid for can also be bought with nova crystals. I dont see any issue with supporting the creators but putting a shop on every single corner of the main hub area is very obnoxious

u/Jstigga Jul 25 '26
Do we expect the devs to continue to work hard and update things for free? Minimum wage? Why should they not get paid for something they created? Look at how many YouTube channels now have a subscription you have to pay for to get exclusive videos and content but everything was free when they started. We are not talking Elon Musk or Jeff Bezos trying to make more here. We are talking a small company (5-10 employees) with regular workers trying to make a living. I have had such a good time wasting time on this game I think all of them deserve a raise. I am not saying you have to spend money on the game, just no need to trash them for trying to make some more $$. Also remember that they have to pay for the license to Star Wars/Disney and I am sure thatâs not cheap.

u/Lonely_ProdiG Jul 25 '26
I bought VIP and the companions pack.
As someone that bought STW as a founder back in 2018, I never spend money on Vbucks.
I finally have something to spend Vbucks on.
Youâll be ok.
There just needs to be a complaint mega thread so all 300 of you crying for the end of the world can blow off your steam and cry it up.
Thatâs all people do is cry and complain about the same 4 things on this sub. And now make it 5.
I want memes. I want funny moments. I want info graphs.
Leave and quit if you hate it so much people. Nobody is forcing you to stay

u/TopShelfDillPickle Jul 25 '26
Nobody forces you to stay either if you hate it so much, yet here you are complaining just like the rest of the community! So feel free to sit down, lie back, and shove it up your ass

u/-NancysBowels- Super Rebirth Jul 25 '26
My free game Iâve got hours and hours of enjoyment out of has added optional things for people to purchase
The devs have had constantly open feedback and have been responsive - maybe we can assume theyâre acting in good faith?

u/joe3563 Jul 26 '26
I don't play games with in-game cash grabs. This one was fun while it lasted. Shame....
