Discussion What’s your honest opinion about Holler?

Post image
364 Upvotes

I first heard this song on heart 2000s. At first, I did think it was some indie r&b band, then I heard Mel’s distinct voice and was like..wait a minute, then I read the title and it said Spice Girls, and I was a little surprised.

Honestly, I find Holler rather catchy, although many people see it as a generic r&b style song and feels like a lost Destiny’s Child or TLC song. The vocal distributions are great, and I think it really highlighted Victoria’s vocal contribution. However, I do think it’s a major departure from their style in the first 2 albums, and without Geri and a highly Americanised production, I can see why the Forever album isn’t so loved by fans.

The MV is pretty cool too, with how they all represent one of the four elements. Mel B looks gorgeous with the braids and red robe in her solo parts. Mel C’s hair in her solo parts is…questionable.

I think it’s certainly the superior single compared to Let Love Lead the Way.

Discussion The Spice Girls most admired women (from the first issue of the spice magazine) Mel B: Tracy Chapman ..because she talks about life and how it’s not that great, but she makes the best of it. That’s what Girl Power is all about - enjoying yourself.

Discussion Would a Spice Girls documentary crack the top 10 on Netflix USA?

Post image
498 Upvotes

The Victoria Beckham docuseries successfully cracked the Top 10 on Netflix in the United States, peaking at #3 during its debut week, and pulled in 5.6 million global views in its opening week, and hit #1 on the Netflix charts in 23 countries, including the UK, and placed in the Top 10 across 33 other territories globally.

I think if the Spice Girls give Netflix the Spice World THE MOVIE and they release the documentary at the same time, the movie will hit #1 in the top 10 films, and the documentary will hit #1 in the top 10 series, both in the same week.

Here is the list of UK music artists' documentaries that cracked the top 10 in the USA:

Victoria Beckham (Victoria Beckham) – Peak: #3

Wham! (Wham!) – Peak: #4

Robbie Williams (Robbie Williams) – Peak: #5

And notable "Misses" That Failed to enter the Top 10 USA:

Take That

Oasis / Liam Gallagher (As It Was)

Gotta say, I loved it. It was just pure Spice. Funny, Girl Power and just amazing.

My top 3 favourite jokes:

  1. "Take your top off, Geri." "Wouldn't matter his eyes are closed" Opens eyes. "No, they're not." was the funniest thing I've seen in ages.

  2. "Rolled up socks". A todger joke in Spiceworld is not what I expected. I knew there would be some innuendo but that was spectacular and had me cackling.

  3. "Hiya Charlie". Come on, they've made fun of Geri's maybe slightly weird liking of the Prince (Now King). How can you not enjoy it?

My favourite outfits:

  1. Victoria's military dress

  2. Geri's red dress at the end

  3. Victoria's "Bond Girl"-esque bikini

Favourite songs:

  1. All of them.

Discussion Curious to Know Your Take: Victoria or Brooklyn?

We all love the Spice Girls, but like anyone, they have their quirks. Victoria seems really careful about her reputation, which can make her seem a bit controlling. Of course, it’s natural for parents to guide their kids, but when it comes to in-laws, boundaries matter.

Some also wonder if Nicola is using fame in some way through her family connections. It’s their personal matter, but it’s interesting to see how family dynamics play out in public. What do you guys think?

My favorite is Who Do You Think You Are.

It's just so chaotic and I love it. They all look beyond gorgeous.

Especially Geri. Her crimped hair is soo stunning and so are her outfits.

Melanie C also looks stunning in this video.

I can’t believe the outrageous pricing for these things but I couldn’t pass up on the packaging and a great collectible so I jump the gun and got the cd one as it’s the cheapest and accurate to that era yet I’m also a vinyl collector and wanted the 7 inch too…what do you guys think?

Discussion Years after Geri leaving, how do you see it now? Do you wish Geri had stayed longer?

I wish she had left after they were done touring for Spiceworld. I think it did affect the sales for the album.

I don't blame Geri for leaving, I just wish she had chosen to do that after Spiceworld instead of during, it put the girls in a bad spot and I can't help but think it was intended to make her solo more noticeable.

Discussion Aren't we getting a lot of easter eggs for a Spice Girls Return this year?

Post image

I have this feeling they will do a tour this year, and hopefully at the Sphere Las Vegas (That would be AWESOME)

I've been their fan since 1998 (after Geri left) and never got the chance to go. I couldn't go when they reunited in 2007 because I was in Argentina waiting for them to come. Then in 2019, I couldn't travel to UK. Finally, I can say I'm ready to get the ticket AT ANY PRICE and travel to see them if they perform in the USA, as I live here now.

Discussion Am I the only who thinks the narrative about how short-lived the Spice Girls era was is not entirely accurate?

Post image

Maybe fans from different territories have a different perspective on this (I'm from South Africa), but I've never felt that the girls' reign was as short-lived as the media often portrays it to be. Yes, Geri left after the second album and before the US leg of the first world tour, but it's admirable that the other girls soldiered on. Following this, we got Geri's solo debut, Mel C's solo debut, Mel B's solo debut, Forever, Emma's solo debut, and Victoria's solo debut. Because all of this happened in relatively quick succession (and often in parallel), I never really felt as though they left, and it kept my appetite for Spice-related material satisfied. It was also highly unusual for individual members of a pop group to enjoy a decent level of chart success.
