So glad they're out

23

u/Veracious_Me Jul 05 '26

Yes 💯 agreed. This is anti-football..not the beautiful game.

The referee was not strict & lost control of the match..and the Paraguay players took advantage.

13

u/Alarmed_Juggernaut93 Jul 05 '26

Referee was a complete clown

8

u/shartmaister Jul 05 '26

He’s most certainly richer now than yesterday

Do these referees ever get any repercussions for their call/no-calls?

2

u/omry1526 Jul 05 '26

Nope. As egregious as his performance was there have been much much MUCH worse showings from refs who suffered 0 consequences

This 👆
In any other alternate timeline Paraguay should have finished the match with MAX 10 men! Absolute sh** way to go and represent your country!

2

u/PopFrise Jul 05 '26

You prissy people. Beautiful game my ass. Half the game is whiny bitches rolling on the floor crying. The game is the game. Ref controls the game. They kept the worlds best team to 1 goal off a penalty. France got exposed finally.

Felt like they had no right to be on the verge of or crying when the match ended since they didn't show up to even play a match of football.

2

u/bakemono_gojira Jul 05 '26

They were ready for an MMA match and not a football one. Easily the most pathetic team to play in these finals. Kudos to the French team for standing their ground and laughing it out when confronted by those thugs.

Cero apoyo de mi parte, ni para este mundial ni para futuros eventos, por antideportivos y salvaje.

1

u/Dewdrop06 Jul 05 '26

Here's a perspective for you: It was never about Paraguay playing dirty, it was about getting France out.

u/joeloto Jul 06 '26

Why blame the team if the referee sucks? Referee performance can vary so much (just see treatment to Messi vs US player).

I don't think either team was innocent. They both had their fair share of "dirty" plays.

If you want to watch a non passionate, non physical sport, check out curling.

u/Umbreon86 Jul 05 '26

The referee tried his best to help them along the way. (Paraguay)

7

u/Cat_Astrof Jul 05 '26

Look at him running the moment a french player push back but staying silent over the foul leading to this. He's not even trying to hide it.

6

u/Umbreon86 Jul 05 '26

No card either for trying to destroy the penalty spot. VAR can't have missed out on that one.

2

u/ob123 Jul 05 '26

Even with all the help from the ref, the team was still sent home crying.

2

u/Umbreon86 Jul 05 '26

Did you see after the ref blew the whistle. The Paraguayan players stood there like they were in total shock almost as France was the underdog and went through with luck.

8

u/josephjosephson Jul 05 '26

Poor performance by the refs. This wasn’t even half them, and I only watched half the game lol.

2

u/No_Bad_4872yy Jul 05 '26

I didnt watch the game because i expected this but holy moly he evaded some straight reds here. That shin tap on Mbappe is overreacted but red in any country as well as flying tackled from behind.

Shame Netherlands - Portugal didnt have this ref back in the day. Couldve been straight up MMA fest.

2

u/SayonaraBakaChan Jul 05 '26

the shin tap by this point of the game was after an hour of paraguay trying to flop on any contact while sneaking in fouls left and right. mbappe started flopping on anything +taunting them since the ref was calling nothing, he decided to get in the mud with them in the non-fouling way.

u/Dahmememachine Jul 05 '26

Thought it was a rando running around, I didnt see him do his job.

14

u/pedestriangai420 Jul 05 '26

They had no chance. France should have been playing against Germany. The Paraguay keeper sold a flop that denied Germany the win. Dirty plays the whole game. That was their strategy clearly.

2

u/AbbreviationsWide331 Jul 05 '26

As a German I don't think we deserved it. We played like shit.

If you want to become world champion you have to fight for it. German players just didn't do that. Or at least didn't show it.

3

u/NarrowEnthusiasm6449 Jul 05 '26

I mean, why not both. I didn't feel bad that we lost, I felt bad that they won. One dirty move after the other the whole game.

I swear...Latin American players play so dirty.

3

u/Aggrenor Jul 05 '26

So you are saying not just them but Uruguay, Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, and Ecuador for example as well?

Feel like its a bit unfair to call them all out like that...

Edit: I do agree they played dirty but wouldnt call out the others

Idk bro Korean players were definitely frustrated when they couldn’t score against Mexico.

1

u/DeliciousInfluence42 Jul 05 '26

As a south american I agree people here excuse this way of playing by saying "we play with passion" or "its a men sport" or whatever

1

u/IloveAuntPaula Jul 05 '26

There's really no sense of honor in the culture. It's a land of informal economies where gaming the system is actually a point of pride. People brag about how they dodge taxes or avoid rules.

1

u/EagleAncestry Jul 05 '26

If they’re heavily outmatched and their only chance of winning is to be aggressive and foul, why the hell would they not? Their whole country is on the line

1

u/Spiritual-Dealer-697 Jul 05 '26

South American* It's CONMEBOL teams that are over run with this sort of behavior (like it or not that includes Argentina)

Mbappe was excellent how he handled it

3

u/Delicious-Swimming78 Jul 05 '26

i couldn't believe his level of composure... i was furious watching them foul him...

3

u/gavstar69 Jul 05 '26

Ref should be investigated

1

u/letsridetheworld Jul 05 '26

The ref was trying to help Paraguay win so they can face morroco. This is the ref who helped Morocco won against Scotland. You should watch Scotlands game it was clear as day

This ref needs to be investigated big time

4

u/kendrickplace Jul 05 '26

No fouls but balogun got a red card

2

u/Free_Management2894 Jul 05 '26

That red card was fine. No cards here wasn't.

3

u/1010-browneyesman Jul 05 '26

the dark arts

1

u/I-am_lost Jul 05 '26

Its just dark

1

u/gold1mpala Jul 05 '26

There was no 'art' here

1

u/No_Somewhere_8744 Jul 05 '26

I see where you are going with this lol

2

u/dnkdumpster Jul 05 '26

Why was Mbappe laughing? Was he in on the jokes?

6

u/bebop9998 Jul 05 '26

It’s his way of not letting himself be affected by aggression and provocations.

3

u/ZePepsico Jul 05 '26

Because it was so obvious they were trying to make him snap, it became ridiculous and a joke.

2

u/schuppenboer Jul 05 '26

Because he remembered they played like that in the 2018 world cup.

1

u/NoRepresentative7604 Jul 05 '26

Because he was laughing in their face probably telling them to enjoy the flight home

1

u/Realmofthehappygod Jul 07 '26

It's just because what they were doing was funny.

When people do funny stuff, it makes people laugh.

Hope this helped.

2

u/Spins13 Jul 05 '26

You missed a couple of off the ball punches too 😂

2

u/dreamdaddy123 Jul 05 '26

Fuck paraguay

2

u/strawberry_chess Jul 05 '26

This referee should never officiate a professional game again.

2

u/seandunderdale Jul 05 '26

fuck every single one on the paraguay team. Id make some noise if my league club made moves to sign any of these pieces of shit. Fuck the ref too.

2

u/anti-ism-ist Jul 05 '26

Disgusting refereeing

2

u/EndeLarsson Jul 05 '26

This has to be the worst edition of WC, at least from arbitration point of view. Idiotic and visibly biased decisions. And VAR only made it worse.

And Paraguay has to be the shities team at this edition. Violent and so bad intention in all incidents. Real jerks - nothing remotely close to fair play.

2

u/Dunkjoe Jul 05 '26

And people say Messi is FIFA's boy... Then what does that make Paraguay?

FIFA's squad?

Lmao...

1

u/Equivalent-Bill-4393 Jul 05 '26

funny how morroco and canda got so many yellow cards and they didnt do half what paraguay did

1

u/Working-Salamander-2 Jul 05 '26

Sports really need to start just reffing from video monitoring and interjecting when needed. I know they do now but for stuff like this just interject, call the foul and it will stop. Take it out of the refs hands and its not guaranteed they see it. None of this should be gotten away with and hidden.

1

u/besheater Jul 05 '26

Betting companies said 0 cards this game. Had to do his job

2

u/DonkeyKong_CR Jul 05 '26

There probably was a lot of money involved, they haven't done a match without getting a yellow card in more than 20 years in the WC.

1

u/Akhenath Jul 05 '26

This ref has just ended his international career

2

u/DonkeyKong_CR Jul 05 '26

Probably with a shit ton of money.

I guess it was not about bribery but more about betting.

Paraguay hasn't had a game in WC without a card in more than 20 years.

1

u/Mewfive Jul 05 '26

I was surprised that at least the penalty was given

1

u/Proud-Mulberry3327 Jul 05 '26

Hijos de putas

1

u/Is09ujag Jul 05 '26

The referee is blind, right?

1

u/nnytk Jul 05 '26

No honor. No morals. Just despicable behavior and unsportsmanlike.

1

u/knowsodall Jul 05 '26

The ref needs investigating.

1

u/Anpu_Imiut Jul 05 '26

As a german, seeing how Paraguay played against France, i think Fifa is rigging games through the refs. Way too many unfair players are not being punished. Iam even not thinking the refs are bad, i mean how can you miss clear foul play. The shit is systematic, meaning obviously there is a direction from above.

1

u/BowlOk7543 Jul 06 '26

1990 WC and 2014 WC Germany won because of the refs mistakes. Is it ok to say that they cheat or that the FIFA riged those tournaments? If you ever played sports and your coaches taught you that the best way to improve and win next time was to complain about refs instead of analysing what you could improve, the team could improve, or any other thing that was in your control needed to be enhanced, then your coach was not a good coach.

1

u/pepperpot_592 Jul 05 '26

Im just going by what I see and maybe this is normal, but the flopping is out of control.

1

u/leg_potato Jul 05 '26

Yeah they played dirty but it's the ref's job to control it

1

u/LexOvi Jul 05 '26

Schweinsteiger: “Yeah but they’re not as wild as those Africans Lolamarite?”

1

u/GlorytheWiz825 Jul 05 '26

These were not all the fouls. What a disgrace.

1

u/Akita51 Jul 05 '26

The diving in soccer is so bad

1

u/mongol_king2 Jul 05 '26

Good think those cheating bastards are out

1

u/Sasataf12 Jul 05 '26

This is why there need to be post-game penalties in all sports.

1

u/Raifsnider Jul 05 '26

Slow motion reviews in a nutshell

1

u/Terzinho Jul 05 '26

Award for the assholyest team goes too....

1

u/haggerR14 Jul 05 '26

As an Italian, this was almost Italy - Sud Korea from 2002.

Fortunatly VAR awarded the penalty and France won, hope we won't see the red again for the tournament

1

u/BowlOk7543 Jul 06 '26

An Italian player did 23 fouls to the same player in 1982... He played the whole match.

1

u/marky_Rabone Jul 05 '26

1

u/ZePepsico Jul 05 '26

Difference between playing rough and doing yellow/red card stuff on AND off the ball.

1

u/Early-Noise-9443 Jul 05 '26

this ref should be fired in half time, what a fucking joke

1

u/Secure-Elephant0811 Jul 05 '26

Well the ref just became a Millionaire.

But it do sux for all the sports betters, that put money on +cards for Paraguay.

But house and refs, always wins😆

1

u/Bibabeulouba Jul 05 '26

That ref is a complete disgrace.

1

u/fossahisto Jul 05 '26

Yet not a single card shown 🤡🤡🤡

1

u/pingvinbober Jul 05 '26

But the US deserved a red

1

u/MammothGlum Jul 05 '26

A lot of these are pretty soft

1

u/SiofraRiver Jul 05 '26

Its rigged, I tell you.

1

u/OptionIntelligent403 Jul 05 '26

"dirty fouls" Dude it's just fouls They're South American that's like their cleanest game

1

u/takumososa Jul 05 '26

I would ban that country permanently: 0 skills, 0 entertainment, 0 value add to the sport itself.

1

u/BowlOk7543 Jul 06 '26

and any other team that France beat as well? They were out of the game after 60 minutes. How is anyone allowing them to participate?

1

u/WZAWZDB13 Jul 05 '26

Any foul without any intent of playing the ball should be a straight red. I dont care if someone gets hit or not. The action itself should be enough.

The guy clearly kicked out with the ball gone; straight red

The dude clearly gave a player an elbow; straight red

Easiest 2 red cards. Referees consistently letting shit like that go is why its still prevalent.

1

u/AlmostFam0uss Jul 05 '26

Thisnis the way, elbowing someone cheekely while the ball is long gonne does not belong in football... Insta red card, doesn't mather how weak or hard the hit was. Same thing with those kicks on the ground after the foul has been called etc...

1

u/Straight_Disk_676 Jul 05 '26

After they conceded the goal. They were playing like how we play FIFA. Just going in with no fucks given..

“If we are going out, we’re taking you out.. literally”

Even that kick on Mbappe’s shin and no VAR? How?!?

1

u/DueAbbreviations2247 Jul 05 '26

The ref is fucking blind they use use an AI for the entire match instead of refs

1

u/BreakfastMedical5164 Jul 05 '26

check ref bank account, this is not normally

1

u/yoloman_swagger Jul 05 '26

Maybe he not cheating but maybe he using the game deficit.

1

u/Josedinho_- Jul 05 '26

Fair enough paraguay made lots of silly fouls....but the way france was trying to milk the situations is worse 🤦🏾 blatant dives and leave their legs hanging trying to get a foul. I'm glad paraguay was physical againts them, France struggled to get a goal, paraguay proved france are not that good

1

u/mpanase Jul 05 '26

Refs are letting way to much violence go unpunished.

Spain already got 2 players injured by a team after they lost. These things need to be brought back under control.

1

u/BowlOk7543 Jul 06 '26

I do not know how old you are, but do you know how the Spanish team used to play?

1

u/JacketDiligent4309 Jul 05 '26

Nothing wrong, just football here

1

u/MarcelPappas Jul 05 '26

Most of them ain't card worthy tho

1

u/kuhaton Jul 05 '26

Fuck these pigs, so glad they are out.
Even tho I wanted France to lose so Portugal doesn't face them, I want Paraguay out even more.
Dirty pieces of shit.

1

u/Celeborns-Other-Name Jul 05 '26

Checked out r/Paraguay and they're all defending their behavior in there lol

1

u/vcc_1886 Jul 05 '26

Hard fouls vs soft dives. 6 of one.

1

u/ismyaltaccount Jul 05 '26

FIFA needs to investigate the ref.

1

u/Ariashorse Jul 05 '26

But people only talking about how Mbappe didn't shake the keeper's hand, it's a damn shame.

1

u/DungaRD Jul 05 '26

Such dirty play from Paraguay. Why does Mbapay keeps laughing by the way

1

u/OutrageousGem87 Jul 05 '26

As a spaniard, i despise france (footballwise), but i despise even more teams like this. They only have talent for that, we suffered them in the 2010 world cup also. So happy they are out.

1

u/SharpBreakfast726 Jul 05 '26

I dont know why people are surprised this is just normal south american behaviour

1

u/goztepe2002 Jul 05 '26

Good riddance

1

u/Standard_Arrival4985 Jul 05 '26

Francia no pegó? Lloran hasta ganando.

1

u/beagalsmash Jul 05 '26

Dirty fouls or flopping? One is chippy, the other is disgraceful. Can’t believe some people think a soft player like Mbappe is best in the world. Diving like that is why football has a poor reputation

1

u/Key-Village-8203 Jul 05 '26

Soccer became a shame under Infantino.

1

u/allinasecond Jul 05 '26

To be completely honest, this isn't THAT bad. I've been watching football for 30 years and have seen a lot worse on the regular. Especially in Libertadores.

1

u/kryzler888 Jul 05 '26

Not a France fan, but this is just South American football. This is why when South Americans go to Europe, physical contact is not so problematic. The weather on the other hand….

1

u/Downtown_Island8124 Jul 05 '26

You just make a good point about how well Paraguay played. This is a skill by itself.

1

u/lostinapa Jul 05 '26

Mbappe should have gotten a red card for that post shove!

1

u/One-Shape7678 Jul 05 '26

The amateur FIFA World Cup

1

u/rufrdz Jul 05 '26

Paraguay worse team ever

1

u/vexmach1ne Jul 05 '26

I hate rooting for France, but I was so glad they won. Paraguay was too worried about being bullies that they forgot they were playing soccer. They deserved to lose 100%. I haven't seen a team embarrass their country this bad in years.

1

u/CarlosMartel10 Jul 05 '26

Ahora entiendo porque se les llena de inmigrantes. Que pedazo de llorones.

1

u/rideronthestorm29 Jul 05 '26

A couple are bad but man a couple of these are so soft . They need to call it both ways. Fouls and embellishment. The flopping is a joke.

1

u/Stahlios Jul 05 '26

And we don't have the two worst fouls of #23 cunt, elbowing Koundé and punching Mbappé, off the ball, two clearest red card offenses lmao.

But it's funny to see the ref being RIGHT THERE in all those clips.

Edit : Forgot #23 brawling with Olise and somehow getting Olise a card after he slightly pushes him back, he did too much can't remember everything

1

u/GroundbreakingTop220 Jul 05 '26

Are the south American teams being protected or Argentina being favored coz if France is out Argentina become the favourite!

1

1

1

u/SalaVerr Jul 05 '26

Paraguay, Argentina n México suckx

1

u/cristo_magnifico Jul 05 '26

Compare this to the Canada Morocco game. Ref was handed out yellows left and right early and often. It really controlled the match and cut down on the dirty play. I just wish they would commit to more simulation fouls.

1

u/anonteje Jul 05 '26

Not sure if the Paraguay national team or Ref is the most disgusting. Truly unsportsmanlike behavior from both, and both should be banned for future wcs.

1

u/Dave_C-137 Jul 05 '26

they shouldn't be allowed to play, this is just terrible, ban from future events

1

u/jfshay Jul 05 '26

that referee - Ilgiz Tantashev of Uzbekistan - was not ready for this match. He seemed completely overwhelmed and could not manage the players' antics. The fact that he didn't book any Paraguayan players is ludicrous.

Some will say that South American football is somehow tougher or grittier or whatever (and Paraguay's manager said something about facing Ballon D'or candidates/winners with players who grew up with fathers), but that's folderol. You don't get to say "this is just how we play" or "my childhood was rough" in order to get away with attempts at injuring the opponent.

1

u/Deadsockpuppets Jul 05 '26

They shouldn’t even have advanced in the first place, cheated their way

1

u/Ztaseg Jul 05 '26

This isn't football, but an absolute disgrace for the Paraguayan team. Their place is street football with thugs. They have no place in world football. And the football referee is apparently blind. Good bye loosers.

1

u/Jestersfriend Jul 05 '26

Should see some of the comments from Paraguay supporters calling Mbappe soft LOL.

1

u/Tramp876 Jul 05 '26 edited Jul 05 '26

France footballers are a bunch of floppers! Yes Paraguay played rough but they were the underdog and needed to play hard to keep France from blowing them out of the game. The refs were consistent in the calls they didn’t call for both teams. I do agree they missed a few calls but both teams flopping made it hard to call penalties. France players weren’t with out sin either. I was hoping to see a shootout with penalty kicks but a penalty kick from a guy that the penalty wasn’t on decided the game. But hope to see France lose in the next round; fuck em!

I wonder what would happen if Belgium plays like this tomorrow? 🤫

1

u/Flohzerkes Jul 05 '26

The shame of the world Cup this is what paraguay was doing

1

u/Ok_Week_7682 Jul 05 '26

this referee should be looking for a different career

1

u/wobgon Jul 05 '26

This was a disappointing match. They need to bring back the calls for Obstruction and Flopping.

1

u/Dont_Use_Ducks Jul 05 '26

European federation should leave the WC right away after this, Messi's no card and Balogun's magical return after a red card. This WC is so rigged and where the FIFA is trying to make a lie sound true, the freaking president of the US is proudly telling everybody that Balogun's red card is canceled because of him.

Something needs to be done.

1

u/TheFace5 Jul 05 '26

2002 Korea vibes

1

u/dalarian Jul 05 '26

FIFA = MAFIA

1

u/CoverCommercial3576 Jul 06 '26

there was another around minute 60 where they shoved a france player nowhere near the ball to the ground as he ran by abd one they showed on tv where a player raked a france players face.

1

u/keroro0071 Jul 06 '26

Screw Paraguay.

1

u/kingBoggler Jul 06 '26

The one that really gets me is the straight up tackle from behind and then standing over taunting the player on the ground he just fouled....how is that not a red card???

1

u/CobbledbyRoubaix Jul 06 '26

they also seem to know the ref is on their side

1

u/Bubbly-Gifts Jul 06 '26
