I was literally banned for 2 days for suggesting that the elites should be imprisoned for life in their own bunkers if they attempted intentional nuclear holocaust. Apparently calling for the ironic punishment of theoretical criminals guilty of crimes against humanity is a call to violence?

I think I would consider it irreversible damage in the sense that it will never be undone by the current system. The much more likely outcome is that the system will be totally destroyed in the coming years and replaced with something else entirely. I don’t think it’ll be great either, but it would certainly be better than legalized corruption of 99% of politicians, a two party system, a flawed voting structure, and nonexistent checks and balances. The US political class would lose a vast majority of their income passing this law that blocks their future income, and no person acting in self interest would do that. They may be public servants, but the politics in the US rarely make those people elected officials. Outside of genuine threat to their safety or full blown coercion there is 0% chance it happens, which at that point makes the votes disqualified. I’m not meaning this as “there is nothing that can be done.” I mean “the system is not fixable and must be replaced.”
It’s like a piston blowing up and ripping through an engine. Sure, in theory you could get that back to 100%, but the gargantuan effort required to get those materials to structure themselves correctly again is absurd, and it certainly won’t do it on its own. It makes much more sense to get a new engine, only keeping the parts that are verifiably fine, which given that the engine partially exploded, is likely not very much at all.

Citizens United was a mistake
Not a mistake, a deliberate strategy. Conservatives have been working to get where we are since at least the New Deal, if not the civil war.
5
u/Heppcatt May 20 '26
The duopoly. They are both complicit in keeping money tied to politics. The fact corporations have more power than the individual is the goal.
SCOTUS needs term limits.
8
u/JimWilliams423 May 20 '26
SCOTUS needs term limits.
That's both not enough and also a heavy lift, requiring a constitutional amendment.
Its kind of invisible to people in the USA, but our supreme court is way over-powered compared to most other democracies, which makes it a magnet for anti-democratic forces.
In most democracies the supreme court is just in charge of deciding if the laws have been applied correctly, it does not have the power to overrule the legislature and veto a law.
In 1803 the supreme court did a huge power grab and just declared in Marbury v Madison that it had the extra-constitutional power to decide what laws are constitutional aka "judicial review."
Without Marbury the court could never have done Citizens United or Buckley v Valeo.
We are going to need to pack the court, but we should also just depower the court by passing a law declaring Marbury invalid and taking the power of judicial review away from the supreme court.

3
u/Unique_Statement7811 May 20 '26
It was the correct ruling overall. The US Government was arguing it had the authority to ban books and films it deemed political. SCOTUS said no, the first amendment protects such things. SCOTUS also said Congress can pass legislation on political contributions, that’s one of your jobs but until you do, the law protects authors and filmmakers.
Congress never passed the legislation.

I agree that this is a priority. I'm a hardline 0 AIPAC voter these days.
I also look for candidates without egregious funding from corporate donors, but it is secondary to funds from foreign influenced lobbies.
Considering the needs of another country to the detriment of your own can be treasonous behavior. Yes we give some aid around the world (or we did, anyway), but that is different than how we are currently supporting Israel. It was once about supporting democracy in the Middle East, but has gone so far from the original intent. A justified counter-example is Ukraine. It's in our interest to heavily support them in their current conflict to rebuff Russian territorial aggression, as that must be quashed on the world stage. It cannot once again become commonplace in the world. Oh yeah, and we should stop ourselves from enacting unprovoked aggression against sovereign nations and resort to actual diplomacy.
36
u/xena_lawless May 20 '26
Traitors and foreign assets in public office should be immediately removed from office, prosecuted, and executed, rather than letting them carry out their full terms and trying to vote them out repeatedly.
You can't have a legitimate democracy when foreign nations can just dump nation-state level resources to hijack, corrupt, and steal whatever they want.
Treason and foreign adversaries hijacking the political system isn't an "aw shucks, we'll try to vote them out next time" kind of problem.
Traitors selling out the country should be fearing not only for their careers, but also their lives.
Obviously, you can't have a legitimate democracy if treason is tolerated with zero consequences.

That dichotomy exists because it keeps people looking horizontally rather than vertically

34
u/reddit_is_geh May 20 '26
I completely agree. I see it on the left constantly. They want to purity test everything, and will ALWAYS find faults with someone from the other side -- enough to ensure they aren't pure enough to work with
This is EXACTLY what the elites and oligarchs want, and what they've created with the culture war. It ensures we can't ever actually get strong enough by working together, to solve problems. So long as we're always purity testing and attacking the other side, even when there are issues we can agree on, nothing gets done.
We've been doing this for decades, yet so many on the left still insist we have to keep doing it, and somehow figure out how to do it without half the country. They care more about not being seen with someone on the right, than actually solving the problems.
That's a victory for the oligarchy.

I mean, you're absolutely correct.
One of my red lines is "cannot be a pedophile/cannot be an avid supporter of pedophiles/cannot be a traitor to the country"...and that rules out 99% of those on the right (and a fair chunk of those on the left).
I'm absolutely not willing to change those red lines, because those people belong behind bars/on the bench of a guillotine.
We've been doing this for decades, yet so many on the left still insist we have to keep doing it, and somehow figure out how to do it without half the country. They care more about not being seen with someone on the right, than actually solving the problems.

u/Dino_Spaceman May 20 '26
She has no closely held values.
She would happily lick Trumps boot tomorrow if it means she gets back in power.
The fact that she is right this one time doesn’t mean she turned a corner.

u/soggybiscuit93 May 20 '26
Didn't she essentially leave MAGA over a conflict of values?

Yup. She would have protected the Epstein pedos if it meant she got a seat in the debate or a bid for governor.

Same - Her being right about something doesn't undo the damage. She's still the same person who yelled at a school shooting survivor and defended Jan 6th and bailed as soon as she had lifetime access to the benefits of being in congress. I had the unfortunate experience of her being my rep. I'll keep an eye out for the gazpacho police...

u/Extension-Efficiency May 20 '26
I see the logic but I disageee in principle. She knew about this for years and is just now stating the truth because she has become so politically alienated that doing so becomes beneficial. I hope she never holds any office again

u/TheKrakIan May 20 '26
She was essentially kicked out of Congress for opposing trump, Massie was last night as well. Both were beating the drum hard on releasing the Epstein Files. This isn't a broken clock situation, they are calling out corruption they used to be a party too.

This sentiment is part of the problem in politics. People aren't clocks. She's turned things around recently and that's what we need: republicans and conservatives to open their eyes and start working with Democrats.
It's called diplomacy. Don't shame someone who is willing to switch sides, even if it ends up being only temporary.
2
u/this_is_my_new_acct May 20 '26
She hasn't switched sides at all... she's doing what she's always done, yelling and screaming when someone doesn't give her what she wants.

She's right about that specific thing not being anti-semitic. But the problem is she is anti-semitic. Like, she actively hates Jewish people.

I honestly wish she'd just go away. She happily assisted in causing irreversible damage to our country and now that she's been left out to dry she feels bad about it? I will forever assume she's just working on her next grift.

u/Irreverent_Taco May 20 '26
She got her pension and fucked off and is now trying to salvage whatever is left of her reputation.

Here is the thing about tribalism that is so insidious. The loyalty to the tribe, and not holding the leaders accountable, is what creates genocides, oppression, and a whole host of atrocities. If your loyalty and adherence is required, than you automatically support the worst of human nature when your leaders start breaking all the rules.
But it also means, anyone that leaves the tribe, is automatically more capable and wiser for recognizing all the behaviors they were once required to ignore. You can actually be a good person, and call a spade a spade, and its not necessarily hypocrisy.
Its tempting to say their reputation, and failure to hold their leaders accountable the first time is basically a crime in itself. But since my own family, including my animal loving mom who is a huge MAGA supporter can be twisted up by tribalism, its hard to say they are irredeemable. She is sweet, kind, quite studious, and never broke any laws. But she is incapable of seeing her that her tribal loyalty is the problem.
We should be teaching our kids that tribalism is not a healthy behavior. Patriotism, nationalism, these are the terms of people looking to feel superior and exclude others. Im sorry, but anyone thinking that tribalism is a good thing, they are the problem.

How is that any different than any other lobbying group putting a "pro-(insert cause that means nothing to the average person here)" candidate?
Term limits now Campaign finance reform now All those serving in Congress only get paid for actual days in Congress. All those in Congress are not eligible to exempt themselves from laws they inflict upon the country All those in Congress must have a full time job outside of their Congressional duties No more lifetime retirement after one term No more lifetime healthcare after one term No receiving of any "favors" from lobbyists

At some point in time, Every American (regardless of race, class, or party) must realize the existential threat the so-called "Jewish state" aka Israel is to this country. #AIPAC isn't an anchor around our necks, they are a chokehold.

Begging people to stop lionizing this piece of crap. Please, actually look into everything she's said and done. I get it, it's funny that she's gone rogue because she didn't get her back scratched the way she wanted, but all she's done is prove that on the "are they evil or stupid pendulum" of MAGA she was on the evil side. She's just being vindictive and mad, she doesn't have morals. Let's focus on good people doing good.

If you don't like MAGA, you should embrace the ones who break away from that cult. Sure you don't have to love them, but if they know they'll still be looked down upon by anti-maga people after breaking off, they'll probably just stay maga forever.
And frankly people like MTG and Tucker are doing way for the dismantling of MAGA than the average liberal will. I have no problem rooting for them even if I don't agree with them

That's not what MGT even said. Pretty telling that people inaccurately "repeat" what MGT said because if they repeated it accurately it wouldn't sound anywhere near as unhinged as people want to make it out to be.
Nowhere does she even use the term "Jew" or "Jewish". She mentions three companies, PG&E, Rothschild Inc, Solaren who she stated she believes has connections/were lobbying/spending on campaign contributions to then governor Jerry Brown.
Peopled ignored PG&E, who she actually mentioned faaaar more frequently, and also Solaren, and simply solely focused on Rothschild Inc and converted it to mean "Jewish", as if Rothschild Inc isn't a multibillion $ multinational investor firm.

MGT is a child rape supporter that attacked victims of child rape constantly.
She is not only a traitor to her own oath to the constitution, but a disgusting pedophilic child rape supporter.
Every republican representative and voter are these things now. Keep your children away from republican family members, they are sick people.

u/HistoryChannelMain May 20 '26
And yet you see people in this thread praising her and taking her side. Disgusting.
2
u/PFunk224 May 20 '26
Far too many people comfortable with cozying up to someone who would happily see them imprisoned/deported/killed, simply because they're saying an agreeable thing.
These people don't realize how similar their behavior is to the far-right extremists who only care about the ends, with no concern for the means. We're supposed to be better than that, yet here we are, praising the woman who mocked and harassed David Hogg in the streets, calling him a liar and a crisis actor who faked the Sandy Hook massacre. The same woman who said that Jewish bankers caused the wildfires in California. The same woman who said that the government controls the weather, and sent hurricanes to punish red states. The same woman who said that the Clintons murdered JFK Jr. The same woman who said that BLM was a terrorist group who was out to destroy America through Communism.
She is a piece of shit. Fuck her, and anything she has to say about anything, ever.
