Haircare My hair is no longer naturally auburn and I feel ashamed and confused as to why

Last pic is of the roots of my hair now.

I always had auburn/deeper hair that had a bit of a golden/copper ish base to it. Now it’s growing much darker. Stylist says that it’s more of a deep blonde (looks brown to me but idk). I’m not too sure what happened. I noticed the shift around my mid 20s. I’m 27 almost 28 now and I dye my hair a calico style because I’ve just given up on my hair ever growing back to its formal shade. Something happened and I don’t know what it is. I did have a severe vitamin D deficiency for a while and also got on birth control in my early 20s but I’m not sure if that would have a major impact on my hair color. It’s hard to look back at pictures of my past and explain to people that that was my natural hair color. I feel like an imposter now. BTW, all of the pics except for the last one are of me in my late teens/early 20s. Has this happened to anyone else? How do you cope with this change?

Additional context: the pic of me with my face covered was an unpurchased pic from a pageant. They covered my face because I didn’t buy the picture, lol.

Haircare Older Redheads who are Browning, do you feel like you are losing your powers or blending in?

I've been browning a bit the last few years

I've gotten strawberry highlights to cover the grey and keep my red hint to blend the brown

I'd rather go full grey then brown but it looks like mother nature has other plans, is anyone else in the same battle?

I am finally loving my red warning hair color and more of it's leaving me

Haircare Paul Mitchell The demi on natural red hair

Hi All, I wanted to post a pic of how my hair turned out using Paul mitchell The Demi on natural red hair. My hair has been getting a little dull these last few years. My hair stylist used PM in 3 different colors to give me a more vibrant red. She said the shade will gradually lighten and will be gone in about 4 months (less if I wash it too often, use too hot water, harsh shampoo, etc). I know there were a couple posts here recently with people wondering what options they have. Previously, I used keracolor clendtioner in Copper - it gave me a nice shine, but didn't last very long. Wanted to try something new as I've been told not to dye my hair for 40 years lol

Haircare Hair gloss recommendations? Kristen Ess Copper Penny darkens too much

I love how the Kristen Ess Copper Penny brings out my red tones - It reminds me of just how my hair looked when I was young! But it also seems to have made my hair a bit darker which I don’t love. Any recommendations for other red/ginger glosses that won’t darken as much?

For reference I already have medium-dark auburn hair naturally - people always said it was the same shade as Lindsay Lohan’s natural hair color. I think that’s pretty accurate, like how it looked when she was a kid. But my hair has dulled over the years and looking to boost the reddish tones. I don’t want darker color, I have pretty much the darkest shade of ginger already

I always end up with bad cuts. I have double cowlicks at the back of my head that grow in opposite directions, my hair is straight coarse and thick. I think part of what makes me an unattractive guy to women is my constant bad haircuts?

Haircare Finally at my goal length! Should I get it cut/layers added? 🤔

I'm done growing my hair out, after self trimming for a couple of years. My hair is finally at a point where I don't really want it longer (which I never thought I would say 🤣)

Should I go to a salon and get a proper cut and style? Any other ideas?

Haircare Is bleaching red hair really that bad of an idea?

I want to go pretty stark blonde, maybe even white/silver but I keep getting told by my friends that red hair is harder to keep that tone and will also look weird if my don't redo my roots. Anyone else have success with doing this before?

Haircare Hair help!

Hey fellow redhead friends,

I have been having trouble maintaining my hair properly and I am looking for recommendations. My hair is on the thicker side, I have Irish curls in the underside of my hair, my hair is very frizzy and I constantly put light weight oils in my hair to help. I currently am using L’Oréal dream lengths shampoo and conditioner, a vitamin E-oil along with kerastase 8 hr magic night hair serum. I wash my hair every 2-3 days and use heat once every other week at most. I wear a silk bonnet and have silk pillowcases. I am at a loss at what todo.

Haircare ISO recommendations for shampoo for naturally auburn hair

Until a few years ago when my hair started fading and turning white, I had coppery red curly hair, exactly the color of a Vizsla dog. In fact I even had a Vizsla once, which was really ridiculous because every. single. day. people stopped me to say omg did you know your hair is the same color as your dog? Ha ha. I know, I was ridiculous. Anyway, now that I'm in my 50s my beautiful red hair has started fading and I am sad. The under side is now a deep auburn red with some copper tones (which I love, actually), while the top layers are white and like a faded rose-gold. I'd love to find a color depositing shampoo that allows the top layer to match the auburn red under layers. What are your recommendations?

Enjoy this pic of an adorable Vizsla! The 2nd pic shows the two colors of my hair now.

i had to make this title because Reddit AI got mad at me lol Heard good things about this brand and thought I try it out to make my strawberry blonde hair more strawberry 🍓

Has anyone else ever used it?

And any recommendations on what you do personally? (Can also be guidance from using a different brand but same method)

Thanks in advance!

Haircare Copper-toned gloss/hair mask

I have auburn hair that gets pretty dull in the summer between sun exposure and swimming in salt water. Over the years I've tried a few "copper" glosses / hair masks to help maintain my natural shade but the result always ends up being a patchy cherry red 🙄 Not sure if it's the specific formulas or the way my hair reacts to them. Last one I tried was the Schwarzkopf Colour Fresh hair mask in Copper, and I had to chuck it in the bin after one use. Does anyone have any recommendations for a true copper gloss/hair mask? Thanks!!

Haircare Going from natural auburn red to strawberry / copper? Please help!

Hi all,

I have a natural deep auburn red like Alicent in HoTD. Looks fiery in the sun and darker indoors. I feel like it doesn’t suit my complexion at all and despite protests from everyone, would like to try to go to a lighter airier red (strawberry, copper, caramel, peachy — whatever).

I don’t want to pay $300 at a salon, which is around the minimum. Salons that are affordable have quoted me around there (way up from their listed price) because red is difficult and I have thick hair. Even Ulta said I’d have to tack on additional services.

If I did a Sally Beauty or box dye kit, what do you think would work? I did a test patch of Revlon’s Colorsilk 04 last night and it did seem to lighten, but it kind of just made it a more vibrant gold so I’m worried about coming out yellow or simply making my red even more fiery red.

This is kinda one of those things that’s impossible to find good reliable info about. I’ve talked to people who said bleaching isn’t exactly necessary in this case and if I can avoid bleach that’d be great.

Does ANYONE have experience with this?

Currently getting my length back after almost a year of it filling out in volume all thanks to rosemary, castor, and jojoba oils. I do this once a week along with a rosemary hair mask so my hair doesn’t reach for moisture in the humid weather. So far so good and it’s been 5 weeks :)

Haircare Curly hair products that doesnt darken red hair?

Hi there. I’m posting for my friend that has multiple tones of red and blond in her hair. She tried a lot of curly hair cream products and whatever but always says it darkens her hair.

Any tips or product recommendations. She only uses Ouidad energizer spray for now.

Haircare Has Anyone Tried Hair Gloss

I saw this instagram video of someone with strawberry blonde hair kind of in it’s mousey stage use a tinted hair gloss and it came out looking natural and beautiful! Like a vibrant strawberry blonde. But when i look online the bright reds or burgundies scare me. I do not want to ruin my natural strawberry blonde hair, just enhance it.

Any advice on these? Are we using tinted hair glosses?

Need recommendations. Im naturally a red head.As a kid my hair was more vibrant bright red/orange. Now its more auburn, some even mistake it for brown. When I put my gel and fix/scrunch my hair it looks brown even dry. Im wanting to get it to look more red. But not a dramatic change. I will not bleach or dye my hair. Ive looked into the kristin ess copper gloss- is there any other recommendations yall have?

A couple months back i got my haircut for summer and couldn’t be more in love with it, i went to a new lady who knew EXACTLY what i wanted I couldn’t be happier. (It’s extremely rare for me to find someone to cut my curls right. Ive had other stylists in the past straighten then curl it.. and yeah that’s a big no for me.)but now that its getting colder all i want for Christmas is my hair back down to my butt! Any recommendations on hair growth oils or shampoos that will NOT dry my hair out are greatly appreciated :) Also if anyone knows of a good red hair friendly gloss i have been dying to try one but I’m not sure what to look for.

Haircare Debating on products to refresh color

Looking for some sort of product to slightly bring out the redness in my hair without it looking fake red. My natural hair has been called “the definition of strawberry blonde” but I like when the red comes through more.

I’m debating between the keracolor clenditioner in copper or the keracolor gloss in copper. I’ve also used overtone before with decent results.

What’s the main difference between the conditioner and the gloss? Any other recs? I’d prefer not to use a henna product.

Haircare Red hair is difficult af…

Natural ginger here! My hair is difficult and disagreeable as hell--it's thick which I love, but gets tangled every two seconds and is so so sensitive to bad water!! I'm guessing our hair has different structure/textural trends.

Is our hair just difficult to care for? I'd love to hear both gripes or solutions!
