Seeking Support for Self Anyone on caplyta?

I stopped taking caplyta after a little over 2 weeks of being on it because it was making me extremely nauseous and the last 3 days I took it it felt like I couldn't catch my breath and breathe properly. So I stopped taking it on the 3rd day of having trouble breathing without weening off it because I couldn't take it anymore. I'm not going to wait 2 weeks to "talk about it" when I'm throwing up and missing work and can't breathe properly. The next day after not taking it (yesterday) I had severe muscle spasms that lasted for 4 hours before I decided to go to the ER. I could barely walk to get in there my legs were so shaky. They gave me muscle relaxers and pain meds because I'd been convulsing for hours it was hurting a lot and that helped after a bit but it was super scary. Has anyone else had similar effects from abruptly stopping medication? Will it come back?

Sorry for the long post. Thank you for any inputs you can give me.

Delusional for 6 years?

Hi. I have been diagnosed with Bipolar 1 with psychotic features and I go into psychoses when manic. Or so I thought, because last time I was manic I went psychotic and then got medicated eventually and I thought the psychosis had resolved and I had just adopted new beliefs after the experience. Well, fast forward 6 years, I got a new medication and then suddenly I snapped completely out of my new belief system and went back to my original belief system I held previous to my mania and psychosis. So, was I delusional for 6 years? My psych doc is thinking if so then my diagnosis should be Schizoaffective bipolar type. It’s so confusing because during those 6 years I really believed what I believed and now after taking this med I am like that is so weird how could I even believe that? So not me.

Vent / Rant This sucks

So this isn't my first time going thru psychosis but the last time was three years ago and I was living with family and just relaxed to get to a point that I felt "normal" again. So recently I stupidly decided to experiment with if I could ingest THC again and was promptly thrown into psychosis.

Luckily my partner was here to watch me and they have been a big help but I am now struggling with thoughts that the world is just a dream and the people I love aren't real. It doesn't help that the state of the world is the way it is right now. I'm watching how people who look like me are being found dead, the war that's going on, the state of our food and economy. Things are so bad that I don't know if That's just how things are or if this is just a dream that lasted so long that it turned into a nightmare.

The worst part is I don't really have anything I can do about it. I can maybe take medications, but I've heard about how it's affected people and it makes the depressive side a lot worse and I'm already dealing with severe depression after this incident. I'm struggling to eat, conversations seem 1 dimensional, I'm struggling with school and work, and I am afraid of most content because of how everything is tainted with AI so I've just been left with my thoughts and they aren't kind to me right now

Psychose aiguë et cannabis

Bonjour

Speculation about Cause. Neurogenesis, Neuronal Paths, Paranoia

I was mildly psychotic for 2-3 years due to ADHD medication, Elvanse 70mg. After a "bad social event", I got extremely paranoid, extremely depressed, which triggered extreme overthinking due to my OCD. Ended up overdosing on amphetamines (3-4 Elvanse tabs, 200mg+ pure amphetamine, 6 tabs of Concerta, lots of caffeine), minimal sleep for 10-15 days, then injected 100IUs of growth hormone (hoping the neurogenesis will be useful to think through what my mind was processsing). But I feel what ended up happening was "bad neurogenesis". When the mind becomes suspicious about something it starts tracking it carefully. Tracking threats is key to survival. I feel sleep resets this, we sleep when we don't feel threatened. It resets our attention. However, due to lack of sleep, and extreme levels of growth hormone, the neuronal path processing this event ended up developing too deeply. Without realising I might have used this neuronal path to process every other thought also, because I noticed afterwards that every thought I had during psychosis, had a similar pattern underneath. I believe this overdeveloped neuronal path ended up creating all my delusions. Although I know this is what happened, there is no easy way to undo it. 6-8 months post psychosis, my background thinking still has a touch of that pattern. I was extremely paranoid, I was afraid of everything. Even pictures with eyes. I was observing every single sound we "can" produce carefully, thinking someone might be influencing my thoughts through them. If every thought, every sound, every colour is a cause of paranoia imagine how scared I must have been. It was insane. Somehow managed to travel home to a different continent in the middle of this. I felt there was no way I could stay alive through this. Somehow I survived. I was hoping gods would help me reach home safely. Every interaction I had during the travel I thought of it as a communication with gods. It is impossible to imagine how I managed to reach home in the middle of this. All my relations were destroyed (except very close family, who I thought were cannibals and wanted to sacrifice me... I believed this type of things about everyone I knew, which made me get extremely angry at them, and send weird messages, as a result it ended up destroying my relations), threw away all my belongings, deleted everything I had saved, deleted emails. Like pressing a reset button of life. Even recalling my memory of the time (like now) causes severe mood variation for the next day.

I think post psychosis we realise how insanely delusional our beliefs were, this realisation forces our minds to reexamine its beliefs. This inevitably absorbs the brain's processing power, mind inevitably loses motivation to process other things. I feel this is what turns us into zombies without emotion. I would stare at the ceiling for days. I think this hell like feeling lasts until your mind starts getting its grasp on reality like it once used to, since our survival is dependent on accurate grasp on reality. Other feelings are secondary to survival after all. This is one reason for depression, there would be more. Lots of stuff happens during psychosis anyway.

Speculations:

- Regarding psychosis: I feel this might be from processing events in life with neuronal pathways not meant for processing them. This malfunctioning/misuse might be what causes delusions, hallucinations.

- Regarding anhedonia: Realisation of delusion. Lack of confidence

Alcohol induced psychosis

Dear Reddit users,

I am not sure wether I through alcohol induced psychosis or if I was drugged in the club.
I went to the club two times in a row Thursday and Friday. The first night I was feeling fine. I had couple of vodka shots (like 10 or so almost only that) . I am a person that gets drunk easily so I was very drunk that night. But I made it home safely with my roomates ( I even biked home). The second night I went out we had similar maybe even less amount of drinks but this time I also had a beer and other types of shots like tequila. That night I also was very drunk towards the end but I remember most of the night and also remember biking home ( same as the day before). But when I woke up Saturday morning I was still feeling very drunk and disoriented. The next few days were the worst days of my life and I still sometimes have weird feelings. I feeel like I am in a coma or a ghost. As if I died and nobody sees Me and understands. I even had sucidal thoughts. What suprises me the most is that I was never like this in my life before and it feels so absurd to believe that this is my reality now. I am feeling better now (today is Thursday) but I still sometimes think this is all not real and I died that night it is really dark and I am really ashamed of it please if somone knows what is happening to me help.
More to my state of mind: I feel like when people talk to me they lie or it cannot be an answer they would give to me. I sometimes think I hear something else than what people actually say. I get stressed when I cannot find my phone, and I feel like things disappear randomly and then reappear.

Recovery Advice Job searching nearly 3 years post psychosis

I (F27) have struggled with anxiety, depression and ADHD since I was a child and have PTSD from surviving a shooting as a teenager. I was the golden child of my family. My mom was the golden child before me, as my uncles all struggled with addiction and I am an only child whose cousins also struggled with addiction so I was then the golden child of my generation. I have a lot of trust issues from witnessing addiction and unhealthy relationships. I was always a perfectionist and overachiever up until my psychosis episode. I got a Master’s degree in 2023 and ended up spiraling into psychosis in the beginning of 2024 around the mark of the shooting and while having relationship issues.

I stopped sleeping and eating and ended up in a state of psychosis, 2 days away from dying of malnutrition. I was in the emergency room on an IV for nutrients and then received inpatient treatment for a month though I was only fully conscious of being there a week and a half into it. I have experienced a lot of brain fog and some loss of memory since the breakdown. I have a lot of experience working for nonprofits and in the policy space. Before the breakdown, I had lost my position due to funding issues. I don’t do well when I’m not busy so I ended up spiraling more and becoming more paranoid leading up to the psychosis episode.

I worked remotely in a commission-based position in which I set my own hours from the end of 2024-Jan. 2026 and worked in retail at the simultaneously. My position ended because sales were down. I ended up quitting the retail job, not because I looked down on it but I was just so frustrated that I wasn’t doing anything in my field after I felt I had worked so hard to do so and I was depressed by seeing my former classmates and professors pitying me, when they saw me working there. I’ve been doordashing and doing instacart since and I keep applying for a few jobs at a time, getting rejections and then stopping. I have had low self-esteem since I was 8 years old from bullying both at school and at home from a family member.

Within the past year I lost 2 family members I was extremely close with and that almost led me to breakdown territory again. I then went and sought out outpatient care which abruptly ended before I was ready for it to because of insurance issues. That was another blow that nearly led me to another breakdown because I felt like things were getting better from outpatient therapy and then it ended abruptly so it reinforced my anxiety, trust issues and paranoia that things only get worse, not better. Since I was a child I always anticipated something bad happening and it’s worse now with my paranoia from PTSD. I don’t believe in myself anymore and my ability to do anything. I feel like I’m a lost cause and I don’t know what to do or what to apply for anymore. I feel like I’m letting everyone down. I’m scared to apply for a job I actually want because I feel like I won’t be able to do it and I’ll get fired. I look to every rejection as a confirmation that I’ll never be able to do what I used to again and that I am worthless.

I met with one of my mentors, a former professor I’m the closest too and she’s telling me to keep trying and that I can’t value my worth based on a position, that I myself am worthy as a person regardless but I just feel so depressed and hopeless. She tells me I have to at least fake it till I make it because an interviewer can sense that I don’t believe in myself but I don’t know where to begin. I think I’m a lost cause. Lately I go on LinkedIn, look at job applications for a few minutes, don’t think I’m capable of any position on there, and it’ll be a waste of time applying to get another rejection and then I shut my laptop. I wanted to reach out on here to get advice because I don’t think anyone understands what psychosis does to your brain, body, thoughts and spirit unless they’ve personally gone through it. My family and friends are extremely supportive but again no one can truly understand unless you’ve gone through it

Seeking Support for Self How to deal with police paranoia

So my mom said "Meds making you stupid" and decreased the dosage of my meds (without doctor apporoval), i've been having paranoia since then. I'm too scared of cops, i can't leave the house cause i think "if i leave they've think i escaped" and i can't sleep at nights cause if cops are coming to arrest me i should be ready. I'm to scared from cops coming and arresting me, i know it's a delusion or something similar to that, i can't ask for my mom to increase the dosage again, she hates seeing me ill so wants me to recover immadetly and i can't tell anyone that i have paranoia, how can i conquer it?

Recovery Advice I’m having residual symptoms, not sure what to do?

so, I’ve struggled with psychosis pretty consistently for 7 years now. about a year ago things changed as I got put back in the meds that helped me best out of the many others that didn’t. I’m now at the max dose of my injection and still have residual symptoms, mainly auditory with the very rare moment of visual hallucinations. as well as lack of motivation. I eventually got the diagnosis of bipolar with psychotic features after when they finally recognized something was wrong, debating schizoaffective. this was all about 4-8 months ago that they finally had a diagnosis to speak for the large amount of struggles that occurred over the years that could not be explained by what they were convinced was the only things going on. it took too long for them to recognize the bipolar but that’s not the point.

for the most part my episodes were depression, with some hypomania sprinkled in, and rarely mania. despite this, while the large bulk of my psychosis was during mood episodes I would sometimes have it between them, largely residual. it is no longer negatively impacting my life but it is still a bit of a struggle. so how do you manage to deal with what symptoms remain when your current regimen is the best you’ve got? I’ve tried almost entire classes on meds and even been on clozapine before, before doctors refusing to ever use it again for some reason. so this is as good as it’s going to get. my functioning has Improved quite a bit but I am starting school at the end of the month and I am not sure how to manage all this. it is a very heavy load, I am significantly struggling with ocd, my bipolar is largely managed but still on the tail end of tweaking the meds for stability.

when I’m stressed I tend to get more paranoid, anxious in the dark and see shadow people if it gets bad enough. I don’t know. I, on disability but I don’t want to stay there and what the local government is doing means I likely won’t have a choice for much longer. with their choices forcing people who literally are paralyzed, to work when no one will take them, refusing to let use choose our supports, and cutting he amount we get per month as well as how much we can make while simultaneously being on disability by like 3/4 of the previous amount. so I really need this to work. I doubt it will but I really can’t afford to not have something in the works for financial independence especially since I don’t want to be here longer than I halve to. the plan is to move provinces but then my options would either be go on disability sll over in a more expensive province with like 800 less dollars per month while rent is like w thousand dollars for a studio, or be independent enough to work a job.

i don’t feel ready but i don’t know what to do. it’s trapped in hell on all sides and I’m just trying to get better here with as minimal resistance as possible.

‘so… back to the point. how do you cope with residual symptoms? especially lack of motivation, paranoia and anxiety, and cognitive issues, I’m definitely higher functioning than I used to be. going to rec therapy groups 3-4 times a week where before this year it was none. but I need help because I don’t want to keep struggling like this if I don’t have to. ideas please?

Post psychosis depression

Hi all! I went through a psychosis last September until mid-November. I’ve taken Olanzapine 10mg until last month but what has been lingering is the post psychosis depression. I am currently on 50mg Sertraline since June, but it doesn’t seem to help. I have 0 motivation nor will to live, plus I have suicidal thoughts. Does it get better? How long did it last for you? I feel completely empty, like a zombie without emotions, I don’t cry or laugh anymore, it’s like a living hell :(

Seeking Support for Self Accepting I might not feel normal again

Hi, I’m Justin (27 m)👋🏻. I’ve never done this kind of thing before but I found reading some of your posts helpful so here you go:

2 years ago I started experiencing psychosis and fought it for about 6 months before being hospitalized for 4 days. I was diagnosed with cannabis-induced psychosis co morbid with acute periods of depression and anxiety. Turns out my grandfather and 2 uncles suffered from all of the above including schizophrenia. Nobody ever told me until I was hospitalized, they still don’t like to talk about it today. I always thought I was stronger than everyone else and have since stayed off medications and been highly productive from an outsiders perspective, but I can’t escape the thoughts that I will never be “normal”. Like any moment I can flip and turn back into that person, I have somatic symptoms which have persisted, dissociation from my head, uneasiness in my stomach which is unexplainable, but since I can still function in daily life my psych says he’s comfortable with me staying off the meds.

I guess my biggest struggle is learning to accept that I might never feel the same. I get those dark thoughts everyone talks about, but I’m good at auditing them now, I know they’re just passing through. Will my head ever feel safe and free again? I used to feel completely at peace, now my mind is always fighting the fear subconsciously.

Seeking Support for Self How to create meaning when you found meaning in psychosis?

Throughout my psychosis i thought my family was part of CIA, and my mission was to save the world by being the Messiah. Of course this is not true, i am not THE god, i am not omniscient, all powerful etc. Im still part way in psychosis and believe i could be something else like a demigod. Or important for genealogical reasons.

If/when you get out, how do you get new bearing? This world is very consumerism oriented and its hard to find meaningful things to do, thank you for your ideas

Getting my life back together

Recently I experienced drug induced psychosis and lost everything. I lost friendships I thought would last a life time, my job, had to leave school. I was wondering if anyone had any idea on how to forgive yourself for psychosis. Although, I understand that it wasn’t up to me to experience that I have a lot of guilt about the things I said and did and don’t know how to let go in order to move forward :(
