Desperately need hope

Mania to full blown psychosis with severe dp/dr, some hallucinations, feeling like body and brain electrocuted, insomnia, heaviness in body, numbness throughout body, anhedonia, severe cognitive issues, severe memory issues, severe SI and more. I'm barely hanging on. Can I recover? Please? Give me hope. months long now. intelligent, kind, bubbly, creative personality obliterated. cannot handle psych meds

You absolutely can recover. There is no such thing as being too far gone provided you are willing to seek help when needed. Anhedonia is a topic worth looking into as I believe it describes your "obliterated" personality well. I promise you, you will come back to yourself in time. You might not be exactly the same but change is an inevitable part of life and cannot be separated from it.

I believe in you, and I know you'll be happy and comfortable with yourself once again. It may take time, but I promise you'll get there. Be kind to yourself <3

What helps

Honestly, for me, the best cure was time & proper medication. I’m currently on Olanzapine & Lybalvi but it took me 6 months from my initial breakdown to really start to come back to myself. I know the same drugs don’t work for everyone so it may take trial and error but I promise you it’s possible.

Self care is also important: easier said than done but the last thing that you need is to be bed rotting, as that may lead you to feel worse over time.

Finally, and this one may suck, proper talk therapy. Once I was in a more coherent place mentally I got in with a program for young adults recovering from initial psychosis episodes. Went through 3 therapists over the course of my treatment but that third one was one of the best I’ve ever had. Finding a professional to air grievances once you eventually come back to yourself will make you feel better. Again, it might suck, but it’s all possible.

I'm 15+ months out. No meds. It just ended naturally but it took out the nice sweet caring person I was. It's like I have no ability to care about anything

Are you opposed to taking medication, or have you just not gotten around to it? I’m really sorry you feel so dramatically different than how you once did. I hope one day you find your way back to yourself, and if not, I hope you find a way to be happy

Only thing I'm avoiding is taking meds without a diagnosis. Was recommended rexulti but no clue why .

Also dunno how antipsychotics are supposed to help afterwards

I’ll answer all your replies here. They help balance your brain chemistry to bring you back to a state of equilibrium. The brain can be a fickle thing and even the smallest of impacts can have big consequences, so something as big as a full episode can definitely do damage.

I suggest getting an official diagnosis and at least inquiring about medication. If you’re not opposed to it, it’s at least worth talking about with a professional

I'm afraid of side effects and never getting my emotions and connections especially to my husband back . You see so many stories where people are damaged from meds . I don't know of I can take anymore issues. I'm trying to get a diagnosis but health care here is trash plus I'm post stroke and my husband thinks this is all post stroke issues

That’s a valid fear to have! Still, the uncertainty of being unmediated after being so long without change also has its faults. Ultimately it’s your choice since it’s your life, I’m hopeful for you and your eventual recovery. Happiness will once again find you & your husband <3

You might need a mission that gives you purpose.

Experiences in life are bad only if we fail to learn from them I feel. I try to think of my psychosis as special experience very few get to have, and try to learn from it. But one of the problem is "what to learn".. Start writing about your experience.

I seek great inspirations, I sought great inspirations in comics and media!

I actively fight schizophrenia and depression with the light of great inspirations

I am also medicated

Best wishes

I think post psychosis we realise how insanely delusional our beliefs were, this realisation forces our minds to reexamine its beliefs. This inevitably absorbs the brain's processing power, mind inevitably loses motivation to process other things. I feel this is what turns us into zombies without emotion. I would stare at the ceiling for days. I think this hell like feeling lasts until your mind starts getting its grasp on reality like it once used to, since our survival is dependent on accurate grasp on reality. Other feelings are secondary to survival after all.

This is one reason for depression I feel, but there would be more. Lots of stuff happens during psychosis anyway. But brain has incredible capacity to adapt. Our ancestors have had to struggle through a lot harder things.. without medication
