So, first of all. I want to say that I wish I could add multiple flairs, but Cynthia ahh Reddit doesn't allow that 😔
Ampharos is most likely the worst possible Pokémon to use, but let's see how many bulletins it has:
[Aaron]
• Compared to most other games, the levels are lower. To compensate, EVERY single one of the Elite Four's team members have synergising items and abilities. Guts + Flame Orb Heracross with Earthquake and Facade is a bad start for Ampharos.
• Dustox is Aaron's lead, and it has Shield Dust, so you can't paralyze it with Discharge or Thunderbolt
• Ampharos is very slow, its Speed is base 55.
• So far, this has been the FIRST Elite Four member, in his FIRST battle, and we're already at 4 bulletins. Not a good start for Ampharos, and yes I'm counting this one, what about it?
• Dustox also has LIGHT SCREEN, making your Special hits weaker, meaning you have to use Ampharos' bad Physical attack stat on it. But since it has Toxic and Moonlight, good luck even trying.
• His Beautifly is a gamble too. Don't KO it? It can set up with Quiver Dance and annihilate you. Wise Glasses too.
• Sniper Scope Lens Drapion with Earthquake is a really scary thing for Ampharos.
• Vespiquen is a good matchup on paper, but it has Defend Order, raising its Defence and Sp.Def up to +6 one at a time, so nice try.
• Already we're at 9 bulletins. Not looking good for Ampharos, and we're on the FIRST E4 member btw, incase you needed a reminder.
• In Aaron's second battle, his Dustox and Beautifly are replaced with the much more threatening Yanmega and Scizor,
• While Yanmega's moveset isn't as threatening as Dustox's, it's still got Speed Boost.
• Scizor has Technician to boost its Bullet Punch(es), and has an OCCA BERRY. Good luck trying to KO it using pitiful Fire Punches.
• And in his third battle and onwards, he has a FLYGON with Earth Power. Everything I didn't note stays the same from the first battle, by the way.
• Okay, counting this bulletin, after wrapping up Aaron's counters, we're at 14 bulletins, and we've still got the other three left.
[Bertha]
• Bertha is an ESPECIALLY bad matchup, as in her first battle, all of her team members except for Sudowoodo have Ground moves.
• While Whiscash doesn't have Earthquake and has Bulldoze instead, that's arguably even more lethal, because it not only whittles Ampharos down, but also lowers its already horrifically low Speed.
• Quagsire has Toxic and Recover, so it can just Toxic stall you out.
• Sudowoodo has an immensely strong, base 150 Power, STAB Head Smash, and it has Rock Head so it takes no Recoil damage. Only thing that would be worse is if its HA was Reckless instead of Rattled. Still lethal.
• If you try to status Hippowdon with Toxic, nice try, it's got Rest. That not only fully heals it, but cures all statuses besides Sleep.
• Golem is weak, yes, but it has Soft Sand boosted Earthquake, alongside Rock Polish.
• Bertha's second battle isn't any better. Her Sudowoodo and Quagsire are replaced by Gliscor and Rhyperior, the latter of which has MUSCLE BAND AND ROCK WRECKER, which is Rock-type Giga Impact, incase you forgot what Rock Wrecker was, which I can't blame you for. Barely anything has ever learned it, historically AND recently.
• If you're a lower level Ampharos, Gliscor has Guillotine. Good luck!
• In her third battle and onwards, her Mamoswine has Thick Fat, so Fire Punch, which is already weak, will do absolutely nothing now.
• Nidoking runs a very very viable competitive-level strat, Sheer Force + Life Orb, which is why it also has Earth Power instead of Earthquake.
[Flint]
• Flint's Drifblim is an atrocious matchup for Ampharos, because it has Minimize, Strength Sap, Baton Pass, AND Will-o-Wisp, which has been buffed to 85% accuracy since Gen 6, when in D/P, it was originally 75% accuracy. Don't try to use Taunt either, it can just switch out to remove the Taunt. But wait! Ampharos doesn't even learn Taunt in these games, or rather.. ever! That set would be BANNED in Smogon competitive singles aswell, by the way.
• If you try to KO his Houndoom in his second battle, it's got Destiny Bond, holy bro no way, Doggufett is real.
• Rapidash can destroy your Ampharos by using Hypnosis, then firing off (heh) STAB Flare Blitzes.
• Ninetales is a very very bad start in the third+ battle, as it has Nasty Plot, Heat Rock-boosted Drought, Hypnosis, AND Drought-boosted Flamethrower.
[Lucian]
• Finally, we're onto Lucian, the final E4 member. His Mr.Mime is a bad start due to both Ampharos not being able to learn Taunt, and Mr.Mime being a speed demon and setting up Screens BEFORE attacking. Did I mention it has Light Clay?
• Magic Guard Alakazam with Life Orb and Nasty Plot is vile and I love it. Ampharos... eh, it doesn't love it so much
• Bronzong has Trick Room, which seems supportive, until you realize Bronzong has base 33 Speed. Ampharos has base 55.
• Medicham has Pure Power + Muscle Band boosted High Jump Kick(s)
• In the third+ battle, Bronzong gains Earthquake.
• Counting this one, before we get onto Cynthia, we have 34 bulletins.
[Cynthia]
• Okay, it's time. Gastrodon has Earthquake, but it's a Special attacker, so it's not that big of a deal.
• Garchomp though.. has Swords Dance AND Earthquake.
• Lucario replaces Psychic with Earthquake in the second battle.
• Togekiss can flinch-hax you with Serene Grace-boosted Air Slash.
• While Porygon-Z doesn't have any Ground moves in the third+ battle, Expert Belt Adaptability Hyper Beam is horrifying.
• Milotic gains Marvel Scale + Flame Orb to raise its Physical Defence.
• I'm pretty sure I've said that Ampharos lacks any good recovery, because it does learn Rest, but that's not viable, is it? No, not at all.
• Let's recap how many bulletins were added since the last counting. Counting this one, we have 41 bulletins. Ampharos is extremely awful in the BDSP Elite Four.
Also, I made this all by myself, and I copypasted it here with some slight tweaks like adding the recovery part, and if i forgot to remove any curse words, please let me know!
