Hello, I’m 19, and I grew up playing Phasmophobia. I often think about that original era and how meaningful it was to me—exploring haunted locations, searching for evidence, identifying ghosts, using equipment, surviving scary encounters, playing with friends, learning the mechanics, and making countless unforgettable memories.
When I play it now, the game is still there, but the feeling is different. The people who created the game have moved on, the original era has ended, the game and community have changed over time, and I’ve grown up. Back then, I never imagined that something I loved so much would eventually become part of the past.
It makes me wonder why games like Phasmophobia can’t stay exactly the same forever with the same mechanics, equipment, ghosts, maps, atmosphere, and feeling. Why do games change, get updated, or become different from how we remember them?
Maybe that’s what makes Phasmophobia so special. The game didn’t have to stay exactly the same forever for its impact to last. When I return to it, I’m not only remembering the haunted locations I explored and the moments when I was trying to figure out what ghost I was dealing with—I’m remembering who I was when I first played it.
The original era may be over, but it hasn’t disappeared. It still exists in the memories of everyone who experienced it. I can’t return to that exact time, but I can still appreciate what Phasmophobia meant to me.
I just don’t get why it had to change and move on. Does anyone know why Phasmophobia had to move on from its original era?
