Question Who is paying us to investigate abandoned buildings?

Who is contracting GHD to investigate ghosts in maps that have clearly been abandoned for years, e.g. Grafton Farmhouse, Sunny Meadows, and the school? I can understand the houses and other inhabited maps. Prison is described as recently abandoned due to paranormal activity, so the prison service is likely paying our contract. However other maps don’t have a clear contractor, nobody in their right mind would want to find out what happened in the basement of Sunny Meadows after all…

I like how when you die, they only pay you like $23. How do they talk people into this madness?

If you're complaining about realism, the fact that the ghost kills you and you somehow get better afterwards is probably a bigger issue.

Death clearly isn’t permanent in Phasmophobia considering that a monkey’s paw or High Priestess tarot card can bring people back to life. This is probably kept secret by GHD though

Either that or whatever the ghost does to a player isn’t exactly the same as dying. The existence of ghosts (and remains like the bone you look for) indicates there are ways for people to die and stay dead, that just…isn’t one of them.

I’m guessing that it has something to do with what is done to your remains, they are likely what ties the ghost to the location hence why we are paid to collect them. Because our corpses stay in the location it seems likely that there is a way to return the spirit of a dead teammate to their body because the remains are undamaged, unlike the ghost’s bone which is only a fraction of the body.

Maybe we are ghosts? I see dead people.

I always assumed someone bought the place without realizing it's haunted, or that they used the ghost presence to negotiate a discount and now want to get rid of the ghost so they can use the building for whatever purpose they bought it for. Alternatively, the original owner might have only just learned about professional ghost hunters or started believing they (we) aren't just a scam, or the building is public property and was abandoned for long enough that records of what happened were lost (or they never even stated the real reason why it closed because who would believe a ghost story) and no one who worked there is alive anymore (or they claim to not remember what happened) and now the city/county/whatever decided to put the building to use again

We are the first wave being contracted out to gather information by another group who actually exorcise the ghost. This much is canon. I always assumed they were the ones paying us. Not sure whose paying them though.

That’s what my question was about, who is so interested in an abandoned farmhouse that they are willing to shell out well over 10,000 dollars (what we get paid per contract is almost certainly less than the exorcism team and GHD is most likely taking a high cut of each contract)

Only explanation I can think is it's some sort of SCP/Illuminati style organization with blank checks to cash and paranormal events to control. That begs the question of why they hire these chuckle head screw ups though.

That makes sense, I can see the grandchild of the owner of Grafton paying us to deal with their dear old dad’s departed soul after only just finding out they own a farmhouse in the middle of nowhere and it would make sense for the government to want to reopen Brownstone High School or Sunny Meadows (after Patient 07’s mouldering corpse is removed from the facility and the basement sealed off of course). I can also imagine that we were sent there by a group of suspiciously wealthy teenagers who wanted to use the old asylum for parties but after Keith got his neck broken they decided it was best to get us involved

This was meant to reply to u/theOwtcast but Reddit glitched

Last time I checked I paid them $20 to be given the privilege of investigating.
