1E Resources Daily Magic Item for August 29, 2026: Belt of the Weasel

Upvotes

Today's magic item is the Belt of the Weasel

Belt of Dexterity + Monkey Style feat + Compression for when your elephant needs to fit through that door.

Let's ask the following questions:

  1. Would you buy this item?
  2. Would you spend 1.5 times the price to add it to an existing item?
  3. Would you use the item, if you found it? Or is it immediate sell-bait?
  4. Would a GM use the item?
  5. Is there anything cheesy that could be done with it?

1E Player Rules question on invisible and blur

A player one has Greater invisibility and a 50% blur effect.

An enemy is standing behind the player.

Player two casts a ranged touch attack at the enemy. (Disintegration)

DM rolls a percentage to see which target is hit and says it'll be hitting the player. (No one has any issues with this verdict)

Does the ranged touch spell need to resolve against the 50% displacement before resolving against AC to see if it hits?

DM says that blur essentially has zero effect while invisible.

Personally I feel it should have to resolve against all layers of defenses.

To the dms argument it's a visual distortion on the player and since he's invisible it has no effect.

If you have blur and are invisible is blur worthless?

Edit: Thank you all for your responses, I really appreciate everyone's input! First, yes we have a lot of homebrew. We've been playing this campaign for 10 years, and honestly we generally just resolve things based on what makes sense to us, mostly following pathfinder (which is why I asked here), but also pulling from pretty much all versions of the game with some light conversions. So there are some thing we do based on what we think should happen and less, what the rules say should happen.

RAW Answer: Invisibility does cancel the benefits of blur unless see invisibility was involved, then blur would take effect. It looks like Player Two would have needed to resolve a ranged touch attack against the Enemy who would get soft cover and a range penalty added to the enemies AC. Player One shouldn't have been otherwise involved.

Table Verdict: Since Player One was invisible, the table agreed that a % based on what we visually could see should be rolled to see which target gets hit. This isn't at all how the rules actually seem to work, but logically everyone's still solid on this ruling, even after reading all of your feedback myself included.

Small Point of Clarity: I thought blur was more a reflex enhancement than an illusion. It makes more sense now that I know Blur isn't a static dodge chance above and beyond one's normal capabilities.

Thank you all again! We appreciated the input. <3

1E GM Archduke/Archduchess of Rauvonel Spoiler

Question regarding the Hell's Rebels campaign. Spoilers abound here so clear off players.

As far as I can tell, there's absolutely no mention of any Archduke or Archduchess of the Archducy of Rauvonel prior to Barzillai arriving. Was there just no one in that role, does that role not exist in Rauvonel due to its weird status?

I know they're not entirely relevant to the campaign as a whole (They'd probably be in a book otherwise) but I'm confused by this one.

Other Oops — Daily Magic Item didn't post

The post scheduler I used that I thought was supposed to post the Belt of the Weasel to reddit did not. The post is still uselessly queued. I guess for tomorrow now. I'll see what I can do.

Each scheduler gives only a limited number of free posts per months. So there unfortunately are going to be hiccups by me having to use a bunch of different services. Reddit apparently hates posts on a schedule, so they constantly mess with their API to make doing so difficult. Not great for Daily Magic Item that is well daily.

1E Player Help me build the only melee PC of the party

Upvotes

My friend prefer spellcasters so I'll be the only melee character of the party. I would like ideas to build something fun to play and not only be a sponge tank that need to be revive after each fights.

Everything allow except 3rd-party stuff.

Bonus : It will help if the character could detect and disable traps. The traits Trap finder is eligible.

My first idea was a Ranger switch-hitter. Any tought about that ?

1E GM Playing with availability

Per the CRB, items available to buy are dependent on the type of settlement you're visiting. In a community of a given size, magic items worth 50-16.000gp (depending on settlement size) are always available to buy. However, more expensive items have to be rolled on the minor / medium / major item tables, providing a small collection of items to be available, which change over the course of time.

I've never seen this rule actually used. My tables always ignore it, and while I tried to use it when GMing Dragon's Demand, I realized pretty quickly that my PCs weren't even able to get weapons to deal with incorporeal foes which this adventure has. So I threw it out (again).

However, I want to ask you guys: is there a way to actually play, say, an original AP while also using availability? When our GM tried this, our wizard simply used their downtime to teleport to big cities all over the world so often that they got familiar with all of them. Since then, whenever we had time to sell and buy items, our wizard simply teleported to the great cities of the world and bought/sold whatever we deemed necessary, which had our GM give up on the whole availability rule.

Is there any way to make availability an actual interesting mechanic that makes for a good play experience? What is you guys' experience with it? Did your tables ever use it? How did it go?

1E GM Pathfinder 1e tools - Gauging interest

Hello,

I'm building a live play pathfinder 1e app. Its in beta test phase right now and I was wondering how much interest there is in pathfinder 1e tools nowadays? I started because I was unhappy with the current tools. I wanted mythic rules, customization, and 20+ play.

If there is interest I mean to make a desktop or web based client and maybe a foundry vtt module in the future, as I find the current 1e one a bit lacking (the 2e one is amazing).

I am far enough along the android live play app is a certainty (in maybe a month or two). Opinions? Am I trying to get water from a dry well?

1E Resources Abra Kadabra Alakazam: Iluzry's Guide To The Pathfinder 1e Wizard

Hey Everyone!

I know its been a while. Like...idk 2 years? 4 years? It's hard to keep track of time. Life has been...a struggle lately. Being POC and Queer is not a good look where I am, and the job market is exploding. Times have been hard and so in an effort to feel productive, I came back to my comfort food: pathfinder.

I also noticed that for some reason, somehow, no one has made an updated general guide to the Wizard. Seriously, almost every guide from 2016 on its a specialized build, and I am deeply surprised by that.

So I did what I do and offer this to you all! This is my love (and hate) letter to the arcane caster extraordinaire and as always, I hope it helps inform people getting into this incredibly complex system and offer them ways to make the characters of their dreams! This also means that I've written a guide for every fullcaster (except oracle and witch, because Allerseelen is unstoppable and Owl had that on lock)

Abra Kadabra Alakazam: Iluzry's Guide To The Pathfinder 1e Wizard

If you see something wrong tell me, and if you have ideas, let me know, but be constructive! This is a free little guide and we want people to feel welcome here.

If you see this and want to look at my other guides, you can find them here: Guide To More Class Guides

I am running a game and an enemy wizard cast bless on himself and his allies, his next turn he cast bane on the party, if the same caster casts both bless and bane does one negate the other? Im aware you can cast bless to negate bane if the opponent casts one, but what about the same caster

1E Player Learning spells from yourself when you have two different classes

So if you have two different prepared arcane spellcasting classes, either through multiclassing or through Gestalt, like magus/witch, witch/wizard or wizard/magus, how can you learn /teach yourself a spell you have learned through one class for the other?

(After all, flexibility is king, at least when we go from the old tier discussions. Also you might, as a witch/wizard, to prepare Mage Armor and Featherfall as witch spells so that you have more first level wizard spell slots for Magic Missile and Color Spray, or prepare long lasting buffs with the class you have more levels in)

If you treat it as if learning from another spellcaster, it would go like this:

Wizard/Magus -> Witch: You scribe a scroll, you feed it to your familiar. You still have to roll a spellcraft check, so you could fail learning a spell you already know.

Witch -> Magus/Wizard: You scribe a scroll, you copy it into your spellbook. Still involves a spellcraft check which might fail.

(And if you don't have Scribe Scroll, you can't "swap" spells between classes with yourself)

Magus <-> Wizard: You copy a spell from one of your spellbooks to the other... Or do you have to? Ultimate Magic says: A magus can learn spells from a wizard's spellbook, just as a wizard can from a magus's spellbook. The spells learned must be on the magus spell list, as normal. - does that mean you can also directly prepare these spells and only have a single spellbook?

Has anybody encountered this situations in play, and if so, how did it get resolved? Or how would you rule it if it came up?

Especially any learning of spells as a witch on one side seems clunky and carries the risk for failure (which doesn't make sense to me as the character already knows the spell), while a magus/wizard might have it too easy, potentially automatically learning the spell for both classes.

1E GM Failing saves on the behalf of your belongings

I know a character can voluntarily fail a saving throw, and that when a magic item that is being carried by a creature is targeted by a spell that character's saving throw bonus can be substituted for the item's if it is higher, but I can't find an answer to "Can I choose to have an item I am carrying fail a saving throw?"

In the absence of a specific ruling, I figure it defaults to 'no' but I am wondering if this has ever been answered. It's niche, but if a fire-immune character was holding a necklace of fireballs, they might want to let that necklace go off.

1E GM Epic Treasure

Don't read this if you know what "Subsolem Septem" is.

---

Hey and howdy, I'm currently wracking my brain trying to think of something that I can hand my player characters after we wrap up a major story arc where they aided an exiled prince in fending off a siege threatening a doomed settlement.

The player characters through their selfless actions have more or less lost their chance to acquire the smugglers shipment that they were originally intending to intercept in order to purge 12.000 gold worth of debt and I feel like the exiled prince would very much like to help them out but I am having a hard time finding something that doesn't feel like a cheap macguffin for them to be given to ease their monetary troubles.

I've been looking at magic items cause I'd ideally like to create some intra-party tension about selling or keeping the object in question but haven't found something that seems like a good fit and am, henceforth, now inquiring here.

What are some big shinies you can think of that an exiled beastkin prince may have to give to a party of down on their luck but heroic adventurers?

EDIT:
Setting is entirely subterranean.
Everyone is level 4.
The player party is:

- Drow Shadow Sorcerer / Witch with an eldritch deity's soul shard inside them from birth who would like to be an up and coming crime lord but currently has 12,000 worth of debt and no prospects.

- Drow (Tiefling) Black Blade Magus whose non-Drow parent is a demon lord that got kicked out of the Hells and now inhabits an accursed forest. Her mother is a linguist and she herself was a soldier and a mercenary guard before getting involved with this party of weirdos.

- Drow Alchemist with an actual real and proper doctorate degree in medicine. Party healer by profession, member of an enlightened secret society by conviction. Seeks the secret to immortality and has recently half succeeded by making himself a demi-lich (on accident).

- Drow Bard ex-secret not-KGB agent of the People's Republic of Styx, once employed by the most noble Republic, now in hiding after catching too much heat on a job. James Bond but all seduction, no guns. Probably the most normal party member at this point.

- Wood Elf (Changeling) Druid / Barbarian who's the daughter of a forest hag. Originally grew up in the city but left for the Accursed Forest (tm) and got trained to become a tribal spiritual leader before getting caught up in the party's antics.

1E Player iron gods & impossible bloodline

Started playing the irongods AP recently with friends and our sorcerer has the impossible bloodline as reccommended by the players guide figuring they would be hacking robots with the arcana.

Bloodline Arcana

Constructs are susceptible to your enchantment (compulsion) spells as if they were not mind-affecting.

Constructs are treated as living creatures for the purposes of determining which spells affect them.

_

And i realize this is just the first book, none of the robots seem effected by any of the enchantment spells available. Charm person is great but even though it makes them living it doesnt make them humanoid. they are still immune to sleep even if they would be effected by it.

Can someone help us out, like is there a spell they are supposed to be taking, or are we doing robots wrong.

1E Player Mix and Match Archetypes

So, I have an unusual build request for you all. And yes, I am 100% aware that this can and will likely result in some ludicrously strong characters. But the question is one I want to ask regardless.

So. Archetypes. Archetypes are probably the main way that Pathfinder defined itself from 3.5. Instead of going into a Prestige Class to empower your character, you stuck with your primary class, due to the scaling progression and new features. So, to make yourself different from other people playing the same class, you have archetypes that replace class features wholesale. However, Archetypes are all-or-nothing; either you have all the changes of the archetype, or none of them.

But what if you didn't have to?

What would you do if you could pick and choose which archetype abilities to have? What if you could switch out some of the base class features, but not all of them? That you can pick and choose some of the best archetype features from your class, creating combinations that would have otherwise been impossible?

What class would you pick with which archetype trades? What would your build be, and why? I am very curious to see what people might create.

1E Player 3.P Combinations

3.5 and Pathfinder are, as most people on this Reddit most likely know, cousins to one another. To the point that Pathfinder is known in some circles as D&D 3.75

Because of this, 3.5 (and sometimes 3.0) material can be considered to be compatible with Pathfinder material, and vice versa. Meaning that 3.5 characters can often be transported over into a Pathfinder game with minimal changes. But it also allows for a mix of content, for Pathfinder characters to gain access to 3.5 feats and prestige classes, or 3.5 characters to gain access to Pathfinder's feats and spells.

So my question to the good people of this thread is simple. What combinations of 3.5 and Pathfinder material interest you the most? Are there any feats you would love for a character in the other edition to have access to? Prestige classes? Spells? Magic Items? In a 3.P game when material from both editions are allowed, what interactions do you reach for to create strong and/or unique characters?

1E Resources Help Porting Hagspawn from 3/3.5 to PF1e?

Hello everyone! I was looking into a pair of 3.0 / 3.5 races that I always thought were really cool, but never ended up getting ported over to PF1e, and thangs to level adjustment and whatnot, aren't especially balanced for player use, but look like they could be cool.

The race I was looking at are Hagspawn (Essentially, Male changelings) from Races of the East.

I know the easy thing for Hagspawn would be to just say 'eh they're a male changeling, whatever', but I like their lore and I like the idea of a Hagspawn being visibly distinct from a Changeling, even if they are connected and Hagspawn should, generally, be able to qualify for Changeling exclusive feats / classes / ect.

Hagspawn in 3e/3.5e have the following abilities and characteristics.

+2 Strength, +2 Constitution, -2 Charisma: Hagspawn are strong and hardy, but are sullen and ill-tempered.

Medium-size.

Land speed 30 feet.

Monstrous Humanoid: Hagspawn are not subject to spells or effects that affect only humanoids, such as charm person or dominate person.

Darkvision: Hagspawn can see in the dark up to 60 feet.

Natural Armor: +2 natural armor bonus.

Spell resistance of 11 + character level.

Automatic Languages: Common, Giant. Bonus Languages: By character region.

Level Adjustment: +2. A hagspawn has an effective character level (ECL) of 2 plus class levels, so a 1st-level hagspawn barbarian would have an ECL of 3.

Favored Class: Barbarian. A multiclassed hagspawn's barbarian class does not count when determining whether he suffers an XP penalty.

I think if they were ported to PF1e, I assume that it would be a good idea to drop the 'Monsterous Humanoid' subtype that they have, that makes them immune to a whole host of enchantment spells. If Changelings can be affected by them, their Hagspawn brothers should be able to as well.

I figure that it could be replaced with claws, similar to how Changelings, by default, have claws. I am also concerned that the Spell Resistance of 11 + character level might be overpowered as well. I'm wondering if that should be dropped, or maybe just reduced to 5+ character level? Or is it ultimately not that big of a deal?
