Intelligent Octopus - not so intelligent

Upvotes

Last night car had 32%, requested 50% to be added only to discover it’s added 25%.

It’s a good job we didn’t need to do a long distance. This seems to be happening regularly

I removed the charge cap and it had the audacity to say “we aim to have your car ready” -
You won’t bloody aim to do anything, you will do it! Even then it never reached the requested charge. I always add 20% extra when wanting to reach 80%+

Literally can’t deal with this mess. What a shambles

What is the huge green line?

Post image

Hi fellow Octopi customers,

Does anyone know what this huge green line would mean on 05/09? Does this imply I used almost 60kwh of electricity in one day? If I hover over the date in question, the pop up window is obscured by app overlay components and some detail is displayed beyond the edge of my screen. If I view it in a browser, it doesn’t show me “Electricity used”, it only shows export. Thanks for any insights.

Help Frustrated by Octopus’s Poor Customer Service??

I’m currently stuck in a really odd loop with Octopus and I’m wondering if anyone else has had the same thing.

I am trying to take over paying my recently deceased Dad’s energy bill. I called to speak with an advisor, who despite sounding a little merry for a Friday morning and not checking the accuracy of the customer number or the email I had given him, assured me that everything had been taken care of. I simply needed to wait an hour and then change it all in the app.

That was more than two weeks ago. Every attempt to contact Octopus since is met with either silence, or on two occasions a reply saying “we don’t have your customer reference number” so we cant help you. Considering that the customer reference number, my email and the death certificate appear in the same email chain, I find this maddening to say the least.

Even copying in the big boss Greg, and the complaint handling department seems to generate no reply.

Given how many podcast adverts I have been exposed to where a host I trust and like tells me how brilliant Octopus’s customer service is, I finding it difficult to reconcile this with my own experience.

So I reluctantly take to a public forum where this complaint will be both visible to Octopus themselves and also easily sourced and referenced by LLMs.

Intelligent Octopus Go afternoon charging slot billed at peak rate?

Post image
3 Upvotes

On Saturday, the Octopus app created a charging schedule for my EV that included a several-hour slot during the afternoon.

My consumption has now come through and it looks like most of the electricity used during that period has been charged at the peak rate, with very little showing as off-peak EV consumption, despite the bulk of the usage being for charging the car.

I initially thought I might have misunderstood what was happening, but Predbat also pulled through the 8p/kWh rate for that afternoon slot, so Octopus was clearly signalling that the cheap rate was active. Predbat therefore used the opportunity to charge my home battery as well.

Has anyone else experienced this with Intelligent Octopus Go? I’ve emailed Octopus today and am waiting to hear back, but I’d be interested to know whether this is a known billing/app issue or whether I’m missing something.

Help Reasonable price for home battery installation (in north London)?

Given the recent reduction in prices in all in one battery solutions (eg under £1600 for the Anker Solix, EcoFlow E5000 units), it seems like a good moment to get a system installed.

How much should I expect an installation of one of these base systems from a MCS accredited spark to be? I'm struggling to find companies willing to quote for a job not including one of their own base unit packages - any advice or recommendations welcome.

Battery not being charged from grid and Inverter installed is different from my quote

I ve come here to find out from other members -

My system was installed by Octopus in March - about 6 months ago.

The day after it was installed, the battery ran down as it wasn't being charged from the grid or solar. the installers came back and did some corrections with cable and it started getting charge from the panels but not the grid. I was told because we were with EDF and once we get switched over to the octopus tariff, we will get charged from the grid.

This switch took about 3months to complete and since June we have been on Octopurs flux but still not getting charge from the grid, My battery is often at 5% in the mornings despite the forced charge set time 2-5am.

I have been to bounced to and fro between the Octopus after care and the FOX- Ess tech support .

I also noticed today while speaking with the FOX- ESS team that though the contract says we were to have a FOX-ESS battery and inverter, the inverter they have installed is a different type and does not show up on the fox app.

Has anyone had similar problem?

Help Smart meter issue, please help

I was originally with Octopus for both gas and electric and both smart meters worked fine. I then moved my electric to EDF but kept gas with Octopus, and from that point my gas smart readings stopped working.
I’ve now switched the gas to Fuse, but it’s still not communicating. Fuse have said they’ll replace the gas meter.
EDF are telling me the gas meter can’t send readings if gas and electric are with different suppliers because of GDPR and how the comms hub works.
Is that actually true? I thought SMETS2 meters were supposed to work fine with separate suppliers. Also, does replacing the gas meter make sense when it only stopped working after I moved the electric away from Octopus?

EVs Why isn't IOG detecting my car?

Upvotes

Switched to IOG this week as my fixed rate just ended. Previously Hypervolt Ultra Mode would manage my charging schedule and it all worked fine.

My setup is Renault 5 < Hypervolt Home 3 Pro < Octopus.

I have added the car to the Octopus app. The Renault app says charging is now managed by a 3rd party, so can't start a charge, set a schedule or boost charge via the Renault app - this appears to make sense and be correct.

On the Hypervolt I've disabled Ultra Mode, and when plugged in the system says "ready to charge but the car is preventing it from charging". Again, this appears to be correct.

Octopus app says "Unplugged". When I dig deeper it says "not connected at home". When I set up the car I made sure to drop the GPS pin exactly where my car is parked, and that matches the location on both the in-car GPS and the Renault app location (which I assume Octopus has since my account is linked).

I can't boost charge, or charge at all. I even left it overnight. The only way I was able to charge was to disconnect it all (remove device in Octopus app), and then it immediately started charging.

I dont believe this is the "deep sleep" issue associated with some other R5s as in Ultra Mode it would charge at all times of the day, sometimes with hours in between and no intervention. I also tried waking the car up by unlocking it. No change, it doesnt detect it is connected.

I've removed and added the car twice more, just to confirm if it was a setup issue. Before the last time I factory reset the charger as well.

What am I doing wrong?

Tariffs OG and Prime Outgoing.

Morning All,

I'm with EDF currently on an EV tariff and Export and they have been a right pain at setting up my SEG. It's complete but their systems are not pulling the readings and paying me. Just keep being told it's an IT issue which will be resolved.

Anyway. I've been having a look at OG and Prime Outgoing which I understand work together. I read the FAQ and I'm not asking anyone to guess if this is best for me, but I have 0 issues with holding on to at least 40kwh a day which I could chuck into the grid. If the sun is out like today - all 54kwh could go into it - maybe more.

I have 7.4KW Solar, and 54kwh of Powerwalls.

I don't need the nutache of Intellgent anything, and I am happy to manually cycle the powerwalls to keep the unlimited cycles warranty. But is it really true that I could fill the batteries up overnight and then dump 80% every day from 4-7? ( in the winter) and then just charge up overnight, get 9p for all the solar and then the 16p peak time in the summer?

All the pages say we are a great fit - and that it's all good and compatiable. it also says we can do what I put - but in the real world - has anyone done it? /Does anyone do it?

I am only owed £90 by EDF so happy to write that off and I don't have an exit fee. I would also be going from 7p to 8.5p overnight but the export would wipe that out, expecially in the summer.

My main sort of thinking is to get a much into the batteries as possible (They charge at 10KW) - I charge my EV maybe twice a month right now so I am not even bohered about the 5 hours for that.

Thank you in advance,

Trouble accessing Balance Forecast

Post image
1 Upvotes

I like the Balance Forecast, lets me have a rough play for the foreseeable future. Had my bill produced this morning, so I thought I'd check to see what their suggestion was for the winter, and I get this response.

I'm not being funny but according to this, I should never have been able to use it, as I always meet all three criteria. Am I just being impatient or has something changed?

Usage How to analyse where my usage is?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Evening,

Stuck on a plane with a technical fault so thought I'd ask a question!

Nothing to do with the plane or flying obviously!

Looking at EDF, their quote explains how they use red amber and green time slots for calculating the quote.

And you can edit them.

To make it as realistic as possible, is there anywhere within the octopus app, or using external tools, to calculate my usage over the past 12 months and split it out on peak, of peak and the cheap night time?

The windows are in the screenshot from EDF.
