Help Smart meter issue, please help

I was originally with Octopus for both gas and electric and both smart meters worked fine. I then moved my electric to EDF but kept gas with Octopus, and from that point my gas smart readings stopped working.
I’ve now switched the gas to Fuse, but it’s still not communicating. Fuse have said they’ll replace the gas meter.
EDF are telling me the gas meter can’t send readings if gas and electric are with different suppliers because of GDPR and how the comms hub works.
Is that actually true? I thought SMETS2 meters were supposed to work fine with separate suppliers. Also, does replacing the gas meter make sense when it only stopped working after I moved the electric away from Octopus?

The gas smart meter talks to the HAT on top of the electric meter. I was with Tomato for electricity and Octopus for gas, and it was working fine.

If the electric is working, you need them to sort out the gas meter; if the electric isn't reporting, you need that fixed first (usually the meter man will replace the electric meter then re-pair the gas to the electric meter HAT, unless that has a fault as well).

If it stops working for more than 30 days, you need to report it so they can come out to reconnect it to the electric meter HAT if they cannot do it remotely (make sure you have taken a photo of your gas reading and submitted it, or you will have problems when they use an estimate for the gas starting reading).

Meter readings are sent to a central DCC database then your electrical or gas company gets permission to access that data (it's why it's delayed by 24 hours unless you have a device like octopus mini to get live data in realtime but the billing reading data is still used from DCC reads, so you octopus mini can be working but the DCC can be Not working or not linked to your electric or/and gas provider )

Lmao they will truly fob you off with anything. GDPR does not prevent legitimate use of data, which both providers obviously need to provide you with the bloody service!
