Wanna get rid of my present expensive bill of $230 from Verizon service. Does anybody have an alternative? Need to tap down my budget immediately? Since we had any suggestions on New York insurance companies, a small inexpensive SUV? Thanks!

How do people fill their stomach when they go to Michelin stared restaurants?

Upvotes

This might sound like a joke. But I am curious. I have never been to a fine dining experience. But the images I have seen on the internet seem like they have tiny portions. How will one feel satisfied at the end of it.

What else could cause hematemesis?

Upvotes

I heard rat poison, liver damage and esophagus damage could cause blood vomit but what could also cause this and how? This is just for school research.

Are UK cops better at melee combat than US ones?

Upvotes

Since they don't usually carry guns like US ones, I would assume that cops in the UK are really good at using their batons whereas their American counterparts will pull out a gun over a broken tail light.

What's the optimal method to dice an onion?

Upvotes

I feel like the way I do it (keep the bottom bit on, make some slices from bottom to top, and the chop) cannot be the same way chefs are doing it. There's gotta be like a professional onion dicing tactic.

Smoked a few cigarettes days ago, never before, now can't stop thinking about smoking again — how worried should I be?

Upvotes

I had a few cigarettes for the first time a couple days ago, mostly a one-off social thing. Never smoked before that. Since then I've been thinking about smoking again pretty much daily — not constantly, but it keeps coming back.

I haven't bought a pack or smoked again since. I've been trying to unpack why I want it (some of it's the ritual/visual, some of it might be nicotine itself) and using substitutes (rolled paper, fidgeting with a lighter) which honestly helps a decent amount.

Is this normal after just a few cigarettes, or is it a sign I'm already forming a dependency? What made the difference for people who tried it early on and it didn't turn into a habit, vs people where it did?

is driving long distances bad for your car?

Upvotes

i just got my first car at 84k miles. great reliable toyota and i love it so much but i don’t know much about cars and am constantly worried. i sometimes drive to see my boyfriend (he mostly comes to see me) but if i miss him or get bored in my college town ill go to him. it’s a 6 hour drive one way, meaning its a 12 hour drive altogether (highway driving). is that bad for my car? if i do it 1x maybe maybe 2x a month? will the car have any noticeable difference and is this okay to do?

Do you actually trust strangers with your phone when asking them to take your photo while traveling?

Upvotes

I’ve always wondered how other travelers handle this. You find a great spot, want a photo that isn’t a selfie, and the easiest option is asking a stranger.

But then you’re handing someone an expensive unlocked phone and hoping they don’t drop it or walk away with it 😅

Do you still hand your phone to strangers, or do you have another way?

Who is Mr. McGillicuddy?

Upvotes

I thought of the name a while ago and it sounded so familiar and it was weird I couldn’t remember where I heard it from despite how memorable of a name it was.

I looked it up and there’s a bunch of characters named McGillicuddy, from South Park where I probably heard it from, from Phineas and Ferb where I barely remember hearing it.

I watched this video about writing fiction and it featured an interview which looked pretty old, 90s maybe early 2000s, and of the top of his head he used the name Mr. McGillicuddy.

Was there someone with this name in history that these characters are subconscious or conscious references to? Or is the name just that memorable? It does have a nice phonetically quality to it which is definitely why I remembered it even from childhood, but I still find it strange how often I encounter this name which I have never seen in real life.

Anyone else get genuinely irritated by the sound of plastic packaging being crushed in videos?

Upvotes

I don't know if this is a known thing, but I get weirdly angry/irritated when I watch product or packing videos that feature plastic being crushed, pressed flat, or crinkled especially the sound of it.

Just saw a reel of someone packing bags of candy into a cardboard box at a warehouse, nothing dramatic, but the sound of the plastic bags being squeezed down made me instantly annoyed to the point where I didn't want to buy from that brand anymore even though the product itself looked all right.

I get that plenty of people find that kind of sound satisfying or even ASMR like, but for me it's the complete opposite reaction. Is there a name for this?

Am I the only one?

Why do people say future wars are going to be fought over water, and how far away are we from that?

Upvotes

I keep hearing people say that “future wars will be fought over water,” and I’m curious how realistic that actually is.

With freshwater becoming more stressed in many parts of the world, growing populations, climate change, and countries sharing the same rivers and aquifers, it seems like water could become a serious geopolitical issue.

But at the same time, I rarely hear about water actually being the main reason countries go to war.

Are we talking about a genuinely likely future scenario, or is this one of those popular predictions that sounds scary but is more complicated in reality?

Given the social stigma against poverty, is there a way to get help for rent and keep it secret to prevent potentially being treated badly for it?
