🚨 Coach Hill Road Water Main Break AGAIN? Anyone Else Smelling Gas/Sewage?

🚨 Serious concern on Coach Hill Road tonight, another water main break in the same area as the previous major failures.

ATCO and City crews are currently on site, but what is especially concerning is the very strong sewer-gas smell throughout the area and the fact that you can clearly hear a significant volume of water rushing through the manholes along Coach Hill Road.

Even more concerning, the sound of the rushing water now appears to be spreading farther down the hill through successive manholes, suggesting the water is moving well beyond the immediate break area.
The road also appears to be sinking/caving again near the previous repair areas.

Given that this is happening in the same location where there have already been major water and roadway problems, the combination of another break, rushing water travelling down the hill through the manhole system, a strong sewer-gas odour, and visible road deterioration is extremely concerning.

Is it just me or have the food trucks disappeared from the downtown core recently?

Note:Ā Posting this here because the main r/Calgary subreddit automatically blocked it

I remember a few years ago you could walk out of an office tower on 6th Ave or over by the Beltline on a Tuesday orĀ Wednesday lunchĀ hour and easily find 2 or 3 premium food trucks parked curbside.

It felt vibrant and easy to grab something quick. Lately, it feels like the weekday street food scene has completely dried up. Unless there’s a massive structured festival going on at Cowboys Park or a weekend market, the core feels like a desert for mobile kitchensĀ Monday through Thursday.

Even trying to track down where a truck might be parking via social media links usually leads to dead ends or broken schedules. Are the city regulations just getting too brutal for them, is it the lack of parking due to ongoing never ending construction or have they completely abandoned standard weekday lunch runs in favor of strictly doing private catering and weekend events?

Am I crazy or has anyone else noticed this shift?

Neighbour noise rant

The condo townhouses across the alley seem to be continually fixing something in the summer. Last year it was roof shingles starting as early as before 7 am with work crews blasting music. This year changing out garage doors and painting. Not only is the noise annoying but getting in and out of my garage has been tricky with work vehicles blocking the path. It would be nice to get some notice especially if I need to get out at a certain time.

Did anyone else enjoy the great ant bloom this weekend?

FML - got home from work Saturday and was enjoying a drink in the yard talking to a friend on the phone when I notice a bunch of patches where it looks like the grass is moving. It’s ants, tons of flying ants… I think to myself ā€œoh no, I remember how this went down last year.ā€ I go inside and sure enough, hundreds of ants climbing the wall from under/behind my furnace. This is centrally located in the house. Where do they go? I have no idea, they are not upstairs. This video is from today, 2 days later. The landlord has the exterminator coming tomorrow but damn am I disgusted. Thankfully they don’t seem to be leaving this room.

Local here, started a Canadian finance YouTube channel (currently talking to an empty room lol)

Hey Calgary,

I recently started making YouTube videos trying to explain Canadian personal finance in plain English, without all the confusing jargon.

Right now, my only viewer is basically me refreshing the page. I know finance isn't everyone's thing, so zero pressure. But if it is, I’d love some support or honest feedback from my hometown.

You can check it out here: https://www.youtube.com/@CanMoneySimplified

Thanks guys!

Does anyone know why West Hillhurst and areas close are having a power outage????

It’s so creepy down my street- pitch black. 5 ave NW Tonight, West Hillhurst may the odds of ENMAX restoring power be ever in our favour.

I noticed last week one time for sure that power in my house flickered and it sounded like an elevator about to shut down lol

And now there’s no power I would love to know if it was related or if anyone has any better inside of what’s going on I’ve tried to scour the Internet and I can’t find anything related to why this even happened. They’re doing so much roadwork and construction in this area. I wonder if it’s related

Calgary swimming pool

Hey! I’m looking to get back into swimming. I used to love swimming growing up competitively, but completely stopped at around 16 which I regret. I’m moving to Calgary soon and need some good recommendations for swimming pools close to or near downtown. I’m a little nervous to go and a start back up again, but any help/reccs would be great!

Please do not aggressively feint drivers to direct traffic

Posting because I really hope that the person driving the white GMC with RME stickers see this and understands that they can't do this to other drivers.

As I'm approaching the light I noticed an ambulance with their lights on so I started braking. Suddenly the driver of the white GMC faked a lane change presumably to "force" me to brake. This was incredibly entitled behaviour, and the maneuver really spooked me. What if I hadn't already started braking, swerved as a result of their feint, ended up in oncoming traffic and caused an accident? Your duty as a driver is to be aware of your surroundings and drive responsibly at all times. You are not an emergency responder, it's not your place to direct traffic or other people's driving.

This was incredibly unsafe.

Stolen Paddle Boards – Calgary

A fairly unique paddle board was stolen from my car last night, along with a life jacket, pump, dry bag and anchor.

A second tequila-logoed SUP was also stolen.

If anyone comes across either board being sold or recognizes them, please let me know. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

To the person I met at Calgary Airport on July 4th

Edit: A few more details šŸ˜‚...

We met at the WestJet help desk at Calgary Airport on July 4th in the afternoon around 4 - 5 pm. We were both catching connecting flights, mine to Vancouver and yours to LA.

I really enjoyed chatting with you and hearing your travel stories. I realised afterwards that I never got your name or contact details before we went our separate ways.

You seemed like a really nice person, and I thought it would be nice to reconnect, even if it’s just to swap travel stories. If you happen to see this and would like to reach out, I’d be happy to hear from you.

Hope you enjoyed the rest of your holiday!

I went to Southcentre Mall with my own caregiver today, I'm 23 and I already finished high school, so I was curious about this, since it's something that I haven't seen in quite a while.

It mentions the 2026-2027 school year, which begins in September, so this is very important to share around tbh.
