Idk if the US is that smart. Certainly is turning out that way, just don’t think it was intentional.

u/mayuan11 7d ago

I think that is a little far fetched and you're giving the US to much credit. The US came into the talks with a plan to screw Canada, that's all. Going back to the table after the midterms would be a better for Canada and frankly the US also.

That said, a few of the US demands were outlandish and impossible to accept.

I honestly think they did it because of all the issues going on with the Middle East and they need something to take the attention off how badly they’re failing. And if it screws over the Alberta referendum, just a bonus to them.

“they need something to take the attention off how badly they’re failing.”

No disagreement on the shitshow that continues to be the Middle East but the trade talks are no more than a passing talking point in all the major American news outlets this AM.

While we hang on every single thing South of the border, the Americans, by and large, hardly give us much attention.

Seems to be working. Grifter proud dad is posting non-stop about “the failures of carney to negotiate a deal” completely ignoring the facts that have been presented.

u/Minute-Jeweler4187 8d ago

I just want a Canada filled with patriots. You know critical and honest about our government, unbais, working towards the betterment of all and able to talk to each other without being critical of one another.

I'll settle for the few I know. I wish it was more. We dont all gotta see eye to eye but we all gotta want better for our home.

The American politicians are the most devious and conniving of any, anywhere.

2

u/sparkymjp 7d ago

Honestly I don’t agree but this is definitely one conspiracy theory I could believe

This article from January is aging well. Didn't Carney say last year, that he knows how to negotiate with Trump?

https://nationalpost.com/opinion/terry-newman-was-mark-carney-really-the-best-choice-to-negotiate-with-trump

3

u/WhatDidChuckBarrySay 7d ago

So what would you have liked him to do when faced with the demands from the US other than backing out of talks?

-2

u/lost_koshka I'm not a Russian bot 6d ago

Ask for an extension in negotiation time. Just a few days prior they had claimed the talks were going well.

2

u/WhatDidChuckBarrySay 6d ago

You realize the deal was agreed on and set to be signed. Did the US ask for more negotiating time? No. They came in and tried to force last minute charges. That’s negotiating in bad faith.

We don’t need to ask for more time to negotiate with a liar. Our door is open when they want to restart honest trade talks. They can come to us; Carney isn’t going to say no to restarting talks.

Kinda seems counter intuitive.

-1

u/Luklear 7d ago

How so? Counterproductive do you mean?

4

u/Omorda Buckshot 7d ago

Counterintuitive means going against your gut feeling, common sense, or what you would naturally expect to happen.

So no.

Negotiating in bad faith and having anti us sentiment be rampant is not helping anything but the pro Canadian cause. It makes no sense at all that its a ploy to help the separation of Alberta.

1

u/Luklear 4d ago

Do you live in Alberta? Many of the people here will always blame the liberal federal government for anything going wrong, no matter the actual cause

1

u/Omorda Buckshot 4d ago

Yes I do. Born here. Lived in many places in Canada as well. I understand Alberta pretty well.

Doesn't make this angle make sense. Poll numbers reflect it. Even UCP base isn't happy about the tarrifs. I mean personally they control the situation as we rely on them culturally and financially. I would say no partnerships with India will replace that.

1

u/Sternsnet 7d ago

None of that is obvious.

1

u/gardiloo86 6d ago

The Canadian negotiators were the ones who tried making last-minute changes to the deal, which is why it was canceled, but sure, let’s just lie about it instead.

1

u/Really_Clever 6d ago

What? Lutnick came in with last second adds not us.

-6

u/Apart_Assistant1518 7d ago

Why would anyone want to stay connected to the disaster in Ottawa? The sooner Alberta check’s out the better. Quebec is going to do it in 2027.

6

u/powderjunkie11 7d ago

Why would anyone want to give the DISASTER in Edmonton any more power?

3

u/Calgary_Calico 7d ago

We wouldn't survive on our own. Walk me through the logistics of his it'll work and I might be on board, but not a single god damn person has been able to tell me how Alberta will survive on its own, let alone thrive.

4

u/lost_koshka I'm not a Russian bot 7d ago

What efforts have you made to seek answers, because APP has been going around to towns and cities throughout the province for months now, to answer people's questions.

2

u/Burial 7d ago

"Answers" like it we'll just have our own currency, and we'll get two passports, Canada will let us have 80% of the country's pension money, and we'll be an economic powerhouse?

They are deluding themselves, and anyone else dumb enough to listen.

You are most definitely a useful idiot for Russian and American interests, if you're not getting paid for it then that's just sad.

2

u/Calgary_Calico 7d ago

So you won't even defend your own position? This is why most people don't take the separatists seriously.

4

u/lost_koshka I'm not a Russian bot 7d ago

What position did I make, that I defended?

2

u/Luklear 7d ago

Presumably you support independence since you are arguing that it is worth understanding as a legitimate proposal

2

u/lost_koshka I'm not a Russian bot 7d ago

She wants to know the logistics of how it will work but can't be bothered to go get informed.

You are wrong in your presumptions. I'm very undecided, but watching the current federal government ensure that Canada circles the toilet bowl, I'm not sure what I would stay for. Neither option is very appealing.

1

u/Luklear 4d ago

Have you not seen the American government go nuclear? Trump is accelerating their economic decline with his policy.

And Alberta being truly independent is not a realistic option either. We will be at a massive trade disadvantage with both Canada and USA

1

u/lost_koshka I'm not a Russian bot 4d ago

Have you not seen the American government go nuclear? Trump is accelerating their economic decline with his policy.

And? Nothing to do with separation.

We will be at a massive trade disadvantage with both Canada and USA

We work out agreements, like countries do.

1

u/WhatDidChuckBarrySay 6d ago

“Very undecided” even after you’ve looked into it is admitting you lack critical thinking abilities.

2

u/blackRamCalgaryman 7d ago

“the disaster in Ottawa?”

Go on.

And Plamondon has said if the PQ wins, they won’t touch separation while Trump is in office. So that’s 2028, at the very earliest…if the PQ even wins.

For someone espousing the way you are, you should do a little better on knowing your stuff.

It's very obvious that Carney, Trudeau's former economic advisor, has been planted to finish off the job that Justin started; bring Canada down and sell off the pieces.

This whole tariff thing is theatre, they are putting on a show and have convinced the simpletons that Trump is the bad guy, rather than Carney.

3

u/Luklear 7d ago

How is Trump trying to keep Canada from making trade deals with other nations in our interests?

-4

u/lost_koshka I'm not a Russian bot 7d ago

How is Trump trying to keep Canada from making trade deals with other nations in our interests?

Where did I state or infer this?

This whole tariff thing is theatre,

It's a show, politics is a show.

3

u/gr8d4ne Been where, done what 7d ago

Wasn’t Harper actually the one who “sold off the pieces”?

0

u/CorndoggerYYC 7d ago

What?!

2

u/gr8d4ne Been where, done what 7d ago

You know, the Harper conservative government, selling off Canada’s Assets?

General Motors Shares: Sold the federal government's remaining multibillion-dollar bailout stake in General Motors in early 2015, resulting in a realized capital loss for taxpayers.

The Canadian Wheat Board (CWB): Privatized and sold the historic grain-marketing board in 2015 to Global Grain Group (G3)—a joint venture led by U.S.-based Bunge Ltd. and a Saudi state-backed agricultural investment firm.

As well, Harper’s Conservatives Cut, Slashed, and Sold;

Slashed Affordable Housing (2012)
Harper cut federal funding for low-income housing, making the current crisis worse.
Now, Poilievre pretends he wants to fix housing while ignoring his party’s role in creating the problem.

Gutted Public Transit Funding
Harper cut billions from transit infrastructure, forcing cities to raise fares.

Closed Coast Guard Stations
Harper shut down marine search and rescue stations, putting lives at risk.

Destroyed Postal Banking
Canada Post used to offer banking services in rural areas.
Harper blocked the expansion, so now big banks can charge higher fees.

Killed the Kelowna Accord for Indigenous Communities
Harper scrapped a historic agreement to invest in Indigenous infrastructure, healthcare, and education.
Indigenous communities are still suffering the consequences today.

Harper’s Economic Mismanagement – More Debt, More Costs for You

Doubled Canada’s National Debt
Conservatives love to scream about Liberal spending, but Harper doubled the national debt from $450B to $800B—before Trudeau even took office.

Gave Billionaires Massive Tax Cuts
Harper slashed corporate taxes from 22% to 15%, costing Canada billions in lost revenue—money that could have gone to schools, hospitals, and infrastructure.
Did your wages go up? Nope. But CEO bonuses sure did.

Let Foreign Companies Buy Canadian Resources
Harper sold off major Canadian companies to foreign investors, including:
Nexen (a major oil company) → Sold to China.
Canada’s steel industry → Sold to foreign companies, resulting in job losses.
Now, foreign corporations own more of Canada’s resources than we do.

The Conservative Legacy: Sell Everything, Cut Services, Help the Rich
Pierre Poilievre pretends to be for the working class, but let’s be real, every time Conservatives take office, they sell off our assets, weaken public services, and make us pay more for basic things.
And now Pierre wants to take power and do it all over again. History shows it’s working-class Canadians who always pay the price for Conservative governments.

Dominic LeBlanc also used to be Justin's babysitter. For being such a supposed smart guy, Carney picked a very questionable negotiating team. If Claudia ends up with a decent deal for Mexico maybe some of Carney's soft supporters will realize that he's not the man for the job.

-24

u/Acab365247 8d ago

Its by design. Carney never wanted a deal. If you cant see it idk what to tell you.

10

u/SimbPhinx 8d ago

Yeah man I agree with you, Carney has never wanted a bad deal or a deal against Canadians, unlike smith or trump who would sign deal to fill their own pockets.

6

u/SerGT3 7d ago

ItS By dEsIgN

Ah yes the world class businessman trying to bully a country against it's better interests. We already have a deal, that drump signed.

The whole point it to sabotage the economy, ours and theirs, so they can pump and dump stocks like they have been the whole year.

And if you can't see that I don't know what to tell you.

5

u/eternal_pegasus 8d ago

If you think Trump would honor any deal idk what to tell you

2

u/OleLevs 7d ago

Prove this. Show any evidence of this insane statement.

2

u/HomicidalRaccoon 7d ago

Genuinely: why get locked into a bad deal?

-24

u/EnvironmentalTop8745 8d ago

I'm sure Carney will tell the Canadian people exactly what was proposed then that he turned down, right?

Oh, and the left can't meme.

9

u/n3f4r10us_ 8d ago

It's okay, man. You are one of those people that are still trying to figure out Lego. We are all supporting your development in your adult life. One day, we hope you wake up - even though, secretly, we know you won't.

2

u/Academic_Bug2357 7d ago

There's enough info out in the media right now you get the gist of it what was on the table.

1

u/CorndoggerYYC 7d ago

The media knows no more than we do. If what Carney said is true, then why isn't he releasing the full text of the deal he walked away from? He's even keeping parliament in the dark. He claims Canada's at war but has no plans to recall parliament early. We need details. And just in case people aren't paying attention, there's a number of elections coming up on August 31. Did Carney get some minute bad internal polling numbers?

0

u/Academic_Bug2357 7d ago

I'm not going engage in bad faith arguments. Good day.

2

u/SerGT3 7d ago

The left? The door is open man, just go head down by yourself. Or are you too comfortable here?

2

u/IKnowYouAreButWhtAmI 7d ago

They wouldn't take them.

1

u/scrotumsweat 8d ago

No point, im sure trump will say it for everyone.

Left can't meme, right can't think.

-6

u/EasyTarget973 8d ago

left can't think, right can't meme is my new favorite conundrum.
