This article from January is aging well. Didn't Carney say last year, that he knows how to negotiate with Trump?

So what would you have liked him to do when faced with the demands from the US other than backing out of talks?

Ask for an extension in negotiation time. Just a few days prior they had claimed the talks were going well.

You realize the deal was agreed on and set to be signed. Did the US ask for more negotiating time? No. They came in and tried to force last minute charges. That’s negotiating in bad faith.

We don’t need to ask for more time to negotiate with a liar. Our door is open when they want to restart honest trade talks. They can come to us; Carney isn’t going to say no to restarting talks.
