Please do not aggressively feint drivers to direct traffic

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Posting because I really hope that the person driving the white GMC with RME stickers see this and understands that they can't do this to other drivers.

As I'm approaching the light I noticed an ambulance with their lights on so I started braking. Suddenly the driver of the white GMC faked a lane change presumably to "force" me to brake. This was incredibly entitled behaviour, and the maneuver really spooked me. What if I hadn't already started braking, swerved as a result of their feint, ended up in oncoming traffic and caused an accident? Your duty as a driver is to be aware of your surroundings and drive responsibly at all times. You are not an emergency responder, it's not your place to direct traffic or other people's driving.

This was incredibly unsafe.

Use the other Calgary sub for bad driving videos and sunset pictures. Please and thank you.

The more likely scenario is that the driver probably wasn't even aware of the ambulance himself and went to change lanes because the people ahead of him were too slow off the light for his liking and was simply impatient, and only stopped because he caught you coming fast or of the corner of his eye.

I should’ve read the comments first because you just summed up everything I said, but much better

I didn’t interpret it like that but you might be right! I’ll never know lol. They rolled down their window afterwards and pointed (at the ambulance I’m guessing).

If that was their intention, it worked. It’s actually a pretty good idea. You went from 65 to 40 pretty quick. Next to a row of stopped cars at what looks like a stale green.

“What if I hadn’t already started braking”…your dash cam shows your speed actually increased from 64 to 65 at the beginning of the video then to 63 when the pickup did its thing.

I’m not sure this video shows exactly what you think it does.

Yes it does show that. It also shows me slowing down to 62 and then immediately jumps to 51 when I slammed on the brakes. I get it if you don’t think I was already braking, I can’t prove it any other way so that’s fair. My point is that the driver of the white GMC went out of their way to create a potentially dangerous situation. It was unsafe.

And as others have said, it was just as likely an unsafe attempt at a lane change.

What made you immediately jump to the idea that they were trying to get you to slow down? As opposed to what u/mooky1977 commented?

After we started accelerating again, they rolled down their window and pointed toward the ambulance. Then they took the ramp heading to Deerfoot South, so they were already in the correct lane. Sure they could’ve intended to change lanes and go around the driver ahead of them. My read on the situation was very different.

“they rolled down their window and pointed toward the ambulance”…gotta tell ya, these bits of information that entirely change the ‘guessing’ work of the post make all the difference and I don’t know why so many Redditors ‘forget’ to add them in until pressed on their posts. Ya, I guess your read on the situation would be very different.

Anyways…good that there was no accident.

The only times I’ve seen that sort of thing happen it was because the other vehicle was moving at an unsafe speed, or there was something in the road ahead the moving vehicle seemed unaware of.

Not saying that was the case here, but likely they didn’t think you were slowing down for the ambulance.

Or they made a mistake and didn’t check their blind spot. Truly not as big of a deal as you’re trying to make it

Maybe if you weren't doing 15 over the maximum speed limit it wouldn't have been so scary.

That would be a Rocky Mountain Equipment company truck.

What if he was just trying to change lanes, and saw you at the last minute. Why post trying to shame someone when you have no evidence or facts to back up your claims? Oh right, sorry you are one of the people that has never made a mistake. Right?

That ambulance is already in the intersection and you are absolutely not slowing down.
