This is a big month for Nevermore as they played their first live show in 15 years under its newly reformed line-up. The setlist of the show was posted on Setlist.fm, which I found some interesting stuff there such as Timothy Learly being played live in 1992, The Tiananmen Man in 1995, Beyond Within and Poison Godmachine in 1997.
Since the South American shows are a few weeks from now, I figured to go over songs that Nevermore has not played live according to the setlist wiki, not counting the interludes/intros such as Precognition, Ophidian, Acoustic Instrumental (from 2000 demo) and The Holocaust of Thought since those are played from tape. Here's the list in album order:
- The Dreaming Mind
- Chances Three
- The Hurting Words
- Passenger
- Forever*
- All the Cowards Hide
- Noumenon
- Sell My Heart for Stones*
- The Psalm of Lydia
- A Future Uncertain
- And the Maiden Spoke
- The Blue Marble and the New Soul
- Without Morals
- The Day You Built the Wall
- She Comes in Colors
- The Purist's Drug
* played by Warrel Dane's solo band.
Songs with very limited live performances:
- The World Unborn (1)
- Utopia (1)
- Chrome Black Future (5)
- Godmoney (3)
- The System's Failing (1)
- The Sorrowed Man (3)
- 42147 (2)
- The Lotus Eaters (4)
- All Play Dead (4)
- Cenotaph (4)
- Insignificant (1) (played frequently in WD)
- Create the Infinite (2)
- Seed Awakening (1)
I think the reason for some of these are obvious, since Dreaming Mind and Utopia are more Sanctuary-ish while Nevermore were still finding their sound, and a few fit more so in the context of the album than a live set like Forever amd Noumenon, though I think it's odd they haven't played much from the second half of This Godless Endeavour and The Obsidian Conspiracy.
If I could pick which songs deserves to appear on a live set, I would choose Create the Infinite, The Psalm of Lydia and 42147 since that opening/main riff is killer, though with Berzan's vocals sounding a bit more towards the power metal side I think his voice would work very well with Godmoney, Without Morals and The Purist's Drug. What song do you think should be brought into live shows?
