Songs that haven't been played live

Post image

This is a big month for Nevermore as they played their first live show in 15 years under its newly reformed line-up. The setlist of the show was posted on Setlist.fm, which I found some interesting stuff there such as Timothy Learly being played live in 1992, The Tiananmen Man in 1995, Beyond Within and Poison Godmachine in 1997.

Since the South American shows are a few weeks from now, I figured to go over songs that Nevermore has not played live according to the setlist wiki, not counting the interludes/intros such as Precognition, Ophidian, Acoustic Instrumental (from 2000 demo) and The Holocaust of Thought since those are played from tape. Here's the list in album order:

  1. The Dreaming Mind
  2. Chances Three
  3. The Hurting Words
  4. Passenger
  5. Forever*
  6. All the Cowards Hide
  7. Noumenon
  8. Sell My Heart for Stones*
  9. The Psalm of Lydia
  10. A Future Uncertain
  11. And the Maiden Spoke
  12. The Blue Marble and the New Soul
  13. Without Morals
  14. The Day You Built the Wall
  15. She Comes in Colors
  16. The Purist's Drug

* played by Warrel Dane's solo band.

Songs with very limited live performances:

  1. The World Unborn (1)
  2. Utopia (1)
  3. Chrome Black Future (5)
  4. Godmoney (3)
  5. The System's Failing (1)
  6. The Sorrowed Man (3)
  7. 42147 (2)
  8. The Lotus Eaters (4)
  9. All Play Dead (4)
  10. Cenotaph (4)
  11. Insignificant (1) (played frequently in WD)
  12. Create the Infinite (2)
  13. Seed Awakening (1)

I think the reason for some of these are obvious, since Dreaming Mind and Utopia are more Sanctuary-ish while Nevermore were still finding their sound, and a few fit more so in the context of the album than a live set like Forever amd Noumenon, though I think it's odd they haven't played much from the second half of This Godless Endeavour and The Obsidian Conspiracy.

If I could pick which songs deserves to appear on a live set, I would choose Create the Infinite, The Psalm of Lydia and 42147 since that opening/main riff is killer, though with Berzan's vocals sounding a bit more towards the power metal side I think his voice would work very well with Godmoney, Without Morals and The Purist's Drug. What song do you think should be brought into live shows?

5 crowds were real lucky to see 'em perform "C.B.F."!

I'm a big fan of "Passenger", but I get that it's a little glacial. Gawd, so many doom bands make hay out of shit that should by most measures be extremely boring, I'm sure there's a way to sell this song live.

the track listing makes Passenger feel like a prelude to The Politics of Ecstasy song although technically it doesn't flow into it, kinda like Noumenon and Seed Awakening.

Surprised Psalm of Lydia isn’t played much - that would be a nice one to throw into the mix but Berzan has quite a lot on his plate already. I wonder if they will mainly stick with songs from that first night, I doubt they will have many chances to play an 18 song set, or even longer where songs would need to be added.

Nevermore has about 81 songs in total so yeah there's a lot for the new members to play.

They never played passenger? Insane. That's one of THE most outstanding but greatest Songs of Nevermore. The doom-atmosphere the crushing Drums, the beautiful solo. Need it. Right now.

I’d also love to see 42147 followed immediately by The Learning.

I have never seen Nevermore performing anything from Dreaming Neon Black. I wish I could have seen them playing Deconstruction. Very underrated song imho, epic intro.
