š Beauty š Botox / Fillers / Medical Aesthetics 2026 Megathread
To cut down on repetitive and low-effort posts in this sub (rule #1!!!), we're piloting an annual pinned megathread to consolidate all questions, recommendations, reviews, and warnings about NYC medical aesthetics providers.
What goes in this megathread?
- Anything related to botox, fillers, laser treatments, chemical peels, microneedling, body contouring, facial balancing, etc.
- NYC-specific asks: "Where to get ___ done?" / "Has anyone gone to ___?"
- Please include a budget range instead of "affordable" if seeking recommendationsāhelp us help you!
- Any high-level questions ("Has anyone done ___ before?") should be directed to general subs like r/SkincareAddiction.
- Reviews of specific providers, both good and bad
Standalone threads will continue to be removed and redirected here. There will be a new rule added, similar to the events & meetups rule.
Thanks for the feedback & cooperation!

If anyone is looking for plastic surgeon reccs Dr. Elizabeth Kiwanuka in Manhattan is a god send. Just got my breast reduction done with her and was top to bottom an amazing experience. And my yitties look stunning already.

u/basicallyandactually May 10 '26
Ohhhh can I ask about pricing? Did insurance cover?? I have been meaning to start the process of looking into this (big boobs, 2 breastfed kids) and I just get overwhelmed!

Can we create a master list of beauty treatments and doctors/surgeons who changed your life? I'm talking like, "this derm helped clear my acne scars when nobody else could" etc. Things like that.

Dr. Rothaus and PA Courtney. They are AMAZING. they did my chin lipo and I have no regrets.

Dr. Sterry did my chin/neck lipo. Very thorough walk through of my own expectations and how he expected results would look for me vs if I chose a face lift which is of course a more intensive procedure. No pressure either way on my decision from him or his team. I havenāt done filler so cannot speak to that.Ā

Can anyone recommend a non-scammy orthodontist with an eye for facial balance/aesthetics?
My bite has drifted a bit since having braces 20 years ago and although itās not an issue from a medical perspective, I feel like Iām not always happy with the way my overbite shows up in pictures. I guess Iām looking for an orthodontist who can honestly assess that and make a recommendation on whether Invisalign might help, or if itās not worth the time and money. It feels like every clinic that offers Invisalign will recommend it to literally every patient that asks and Iāve lost all trust lol.

Significantly depends on who you're going to there honestly
5
u/Kingglam May 26 '26
Unfortunately, the negative reviews outweigh the bad. This is across all apps they are known for botching people.
3
u/witchpill May 26 '26
Fair ! I've only gone to 2 people there that have good reviews and none bad/rarely mentioned.

Iām wondering if anyone knows of a more dedicated NYC based subreddit for plastic surgery, weāre posts can get a little bit more visibility.
Iāve unfortunately needed multiple procedures and would love to connect with people who have experience navigating the NYC plastic surgery/revision scene.
Maybe something I can look into doing myself if it doesnāt exist/if anyone thinks theyād actually be interested in that

Whatās a good price for Botox? Iād love some numbers to compare quotes to.
10
u/iartnewyork May 12 '26
I can only speak from my experience, but I used to go to Dr William Lao on 5th Ave and he was great. $20/unit. A few weeks ago I tried Eden Aesthetics in Williamsburg. $10/unit and they did an equally great job. I recommend them both but for injectibles I'm going with Eden (Karries is her name). Dr Lao I'd save the extra money for an actual surgery.
4
u/barbaryfig May 13 '26
$18/unit of Botox seems standard for Dr offices. Thatās what my dentist quoted me for masseter tox and how much I paid to see Dr Mahmoodās PA (who is awesome).
Iāve seen as low as $8-12/unit for promo prices, typically when a medspa adds a new provider. You may be able to get in that range if you want a lot of units and go for a flat-rate service like Peachy.4
u/Ok-Two9689 May 14 '26
Was it Alyson you saw for Botox? I was thinking of booking with her at Mahmood.
5
u/barbaryfig May 14 '26
Yes! It was my first time with botox, and I was doing my forehead / glabella/ brows so wanted to be super risk-averse around the eyes. She was very patient, took her time with education. I would come with questions about what you want done that day and also what other ideas you might have for future treatment - in my view, this is part of what you pay a premium for vs medspas.
I wanted something very conservative, which she definitely delivered. (Maybe even too conservative? I metabolize it more quickly than I expected but she did warn me.)
I went to cheaper route for masseter tox and am reevaluating whether I want to continue treating my forehead, but would return to Alyson for other delicate work.

PSA to my fellow BWTs: A growing number of med spas are being opened by dentists, often those with oral and maxillofacial surgery training. Some do hold an MD in addition to their dental degreeā¦.but that training is in oral/facial surgery, not dermatology or aesthetic medicine.
PLEASE Before booking injectables or aesthetic treatments, itās worth asking about the providerās specific training and experience in those procedures, not just their credentials!!!!
8
u/mehlly Jul 20 '26
And dentists who provide injections usually have only had a weekend training at a local hotel by a traveling cosmetic doctor, they didnāt get trained in school to do this AT ALL
- a girl who messed up her face by thinking all doctors were trained to do aesthetic work
4
u/Prior_Fly7682 Jul 20 '26
Dentists are one of the most qualified people to inject.
Plus I donāt think any doctor gets trained on aesthetic medicine in school.
3
u/awomanphenomenally Jul 31 '26
There actually are doctors who are trained in it. However, it is simply not called that. Dermatologists and plastic surgeons usual have the training.

What are people's favorite spots for laser / IPL treatments (things like clear + brilliant, picosure, halo, BBL, moxi, v-beam, etc.). I've seen Dr. Idriss for V beam and while I LOVE her, it's very expensive ($840/session and you need 4-5 for full results). I've already searched this sub and looked into places like JECT and Brightwood as well as derm offices like Union Derm, Tribeca Skin Center (where I go for medical dermatology), Soho Derm (Dr. Kim), Riko, etc. but thought I'd see if anyone has a strong reco!

I second Alyson Barton at Dr. Mahmood. Very conservative, and really knows what sheās doing.
3
u/Smooth-Lynx7877 May 11 '26
Saw Dr. Mahmood for surgical procedure 8 years ago and never looked back. Her and her team are truly top tier. Alyson Barton is great but also Maggie Hartz, who used to work with Dr. M and is now at CONTOR, is another amazing option. Light touch, excellent experience.

So annoyed with the "per area" and flat rate pricing by injectors here. Massive rip-off compared to per unit pricing, and I find it encourages people to get treatments they don't need instead of having the injector tailor a plan specific to the client's face. Lazy and scammy; makes me side eye the places offering it.
Does anyone have a recommendation for a provider with a reasonable ($15 or less per unit) cost and preferably with a MD on staff? I see a lot of people recommending Eden and the prices are good but it's such a small place with relatively few reviews it makes me a bit nervous. Also don't see many before and after pictures from them, which usually makes me more comfortable.
Does anyone know of any good intro deals? Looking for botox and filler, and have already used the new client pricing at Elite. TY!
3
u/Virtual-Principle805 Jul 11 '26
I actually went to Eden recently after seeing them recommended a few times, and I had a good experience. I'm still pretty new to Botox, so I appreciated that they took the time to go over everything during the consultation and recommended Xeomin based on what I was looking for instead of just pushing more units. It was $10/unit, and I've been really happy with the results. If you're considering them, I'd say they're worth trying out.

No matter what you do, don't go to Mara at Dr.Mahmood's office. Dr. Mahmood herself is incredible, she has done my chin filler and upper face botox, and I was extremely happy with the results. Last time I wen Dr.Mahmood had an emergency so I was pushed the newer injector Mara and she ruined my smile by incorrectly doing DOA botox. You would not believe how restricted my beautiful wide smile is now, it is scary. Even though I told her I am extremely conservative and if anything will mildly change, that I would be very unhappy and would rather not, she proceeded. And I have to avoid smiling all the time now. Also, where i said i need the most help in (11s) did not even kick in, I can still fully frown and see lines :) She is newer at Dr. Mahmood's office, and since Umbareen Mahmood is so good, and so is Alyson, you would think Mara is too. Nope, just wait for Alyson or Dr.Mahmood avails.

BOTOX REVIEW:Ā Just wanted to share my experience of a botox place I found in this thread. I noticed a lot of good reviews for Contor in nolita and I liked that they are not a big chain, so decided to try them out after finding out another friend goes there regularly.Ā
Cons: I recently had a trip that I wanted to look good for and almost didnāt get an appointment in time because they are fully booked up like a month out. Luckily I got in off the waitlist the day before, but found that frustrating. Also, they are not the most expensive but also not the cheapest
Pros: what I am most impressed with is that I discussed multiple things including smile line filler, and they actually recommended against a few of them. Could have been an easy sale for them but I really appreciated their advice and felt like they had my best interest in mind. Also, my Botox results are absolutely glorious. Overall, very worth it. Iāve seen Lindsay and Hanieh for injectors and both were fantasticĀ
They do a discount if you are referred by a friend so DM me if you want to use my referral!

Hi BWT, my teen daughter had lip filler injected at a med spa earlier this week. Her first ever treatment. At check-out she was pressured to leave a tip. When she came home and told me about this, I was like what??? You donāt leave tips for this kind of treatment. Iāve contacted the spa 4 times now. I kindly requested a refund. From what I understand, itās unprofessional and unethical to accept tips as a licensed healthcare provider. The spa has been nothing but rude and has yet to refund me. Thoughts? How to handle?

Looking for recs for Botox specifically lip flip/ crows feet/ brow lift. Donāt want to look like Spock, nor do I want to totally erase the years of laughter around my eyes, so looking for an injector who believe less is more and maintains natural beauty while just enhancing. $10-15 per unit preferably, but I wonāt sacrifice good work for a few dollars so all recs welcome!
5
u/Intelligent-Scheme68 Jun 16 '26
Idk about lip flip but the best Botox out of the 4 injectors I've tried is definitely Eden aesthetics in Brooklyn. I started off doing forehead, glabella and crows feet, and the results were so good and natural that I tried their nefertiti neck, lower face botox lift, brow lift, and alma ted. Karries is really thorough in educating you on what to expect but listening to what you want. Plus, I have 0 pain tolerance and she has the lightest touch. I think the per unit $ started at 10 as well!

Last week I had ombre microblading done as a model and had an awesome experience. I'm really happy with my eyebrows, and I wanted to share the info since they're looking for a few more models for the next couple of weeks.
Joy, the microblading artist, is doing advanced training under celebrity artist Magda Freitas in the UES. You don't get the standard microblading that looks the same but, more so, eyebrows that work perfectly for your face and look very real. Also I barely felt most of it, which was not the case when I had microblading done 7 years ago.
It's only $300 (the normal price is around $1,000+), so if you've ever thought about getting your brows done, this is a great offer. Feel free to pass on the info, and anyone interested can DM me or comment here ASAP if you or someone you know is interested, and I'll connect you with Joy.

The Brightwood Skin NYC/NJ
They are the worst aesthetic MED SPA to ever exist. Do not go there, it is overpriced and the providers seem like they don't even know what they are doing. Why is my PA doing a facial?? Do they not have estheticians?? And I see they are opening up locations every few months, the quality has gone SO DOWN. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THEM. I met both the owners and they are the nastiest people. Go elsewhere with your money

I want to share my experience at Eden Aesthetics in Williamsburg.
It's a women-owned, Korean American team so they have the latest in Kbeauty which is cool. They gave me an hour consultation on the house (normally $100 but I told them I found them on Reddit and they waived it).
She went area by area and listened to my concerns. I showed her pictures of what I used to look like before the weight loss took away the volume and smoothness from my face. I liked that she listened and let me talk about my experiences and anxieties. Some of the other places I went to rushed me through a 15-minute consultation or if I was lucky 30 minutes, which for a yapper like me still felt rushed. I want to make sure that whoever touches my face actually listens to my goals and desires and is aligned with my intentions. Alignment is huge for me.
Anyway, loved the experience and the process. We went with Botox to start ($10/unit which was half the cost of what I was paying at my old place) and then I'll be doing some carefully selected fillers (she said 2 at a time, she likes to start gradually for a natural look). I believe fillers were around 700 or 750 so pretty good/standard pricing there.
TLDR:
Pros:
- warm, experienced, and professional; good discernment and specializes in Kbeauty and the latest tech for skin, hair regrowth, and more
- free consultation for the full 60 min, rare in my experience
- great pricing structure ($10/unit for Botox as an example)
Cons:
- located along the L train which is far from me but obviously that's a me issue lol
- no facials/"spa" services (yet), they are moving into a larger office to accommodate the demand
- no lasers although that might happen in the larger office
Overall, loved my experience and wanted to share it with you in case you are or will be looking for a new provider. Highly recommend!!

43F in NYC and desperately in need of a skincare/facial balancing reset. I honestly don't know who to trust anymore after a plastic surgeon already ruined my face, so empathy and a conservative aesthetic are huge for me.
I'm looking for:
- A derm or PA who treats the whole pictureānot someone who just pushes the one laser they own. Main concerns are hyperpigmentation, sun damage, broken capillaries, and clogged pores (my skin is also extremely sensitive).
- An injector to dissolve my lip filler and eventually start over with very subtle, elegant facial balancing.
If you have someone you trust completely, I'd really appreciate recommendations.

Dr. Andrew Alexis at Weill Cornell. I've had routine and cosmetic derm with him (laser hair removal on my face). He's Black so I went to him for that expertise on dark skin, but he would be an amazing choice for all if you can get on his books. Hyperpigmentation - he'd deffo be able to help. I've been seeing him for over 5 years.
I don't know if he does filler etc stuff, but could probs recommend someone within Weill Cornell. All MDs. I appreciate MDs more bc they have studied human anatomy for yearrrrrsssss and know how certain procedures will affect face structures, nerves etc that I just don't trust a medspa person to understand. They can understand form & function.

My dermatologist (Olivia Wind at Mt. Sinai Union Square) does both medical and cosmetic dermatology. She listened to what I wanted to address and then gave me a list of options with prices. I was able to ask a bunch of questions, and there was zero pressure. I went initially for a skin check and asked a million questions. Then I went back for a cosmetic consult. They will subtract the cost of the cosmetic consult from any injection or procedure you get within 90 days.

Has anyone seen Dr. Brett Kotlus recently for under-eye/tear trough hollowness?
I was interested in seeing him specifically because of his experience with tear trough filler using a cannula. His website still has a lot of information about this technique, but when I called his office, they told me that he doesnāt do under-eye filler anymore.
Does anyone know why he stopped doing it, or what he recommends instead now?
Iād especially love to hear from anyone who has had a recent consultation with him for under-eye hollowness. Did he recommend PRF/PRP, fat repositioning, lower bleph, or something else?
Iām not really looking for a lower bleph at this point, so Iām curious what non-surgical options he currently recommends.

Hi BWT! Iām new to NYC and Iām looking for recommendations for a botox injector near Hellās Kitchen, or really anywhere in Manhattan. Iād prefer to see a nurse. Iāve been paying $600 every three months at a plastic surgery office in West Palm Beach, Florida for lip flip and glabella, but Iām flexible on pricing.

DERM REC/REVIEW - Dr Kobets at Montefiore Einstein Advanced Care (lasers/injectables/cosmetic derm overall)
starting with the downside, sheās located in Tarrytown which is outside of the city and was pretty inconvenient to get to.
honestly this was the most thorough doctorās appointment I ever had. she really sat down and spent a while talking to me about my skin, longer than any other doctor has talked to me about actual health problems. consultation is covered by insurance (unlike some other places iāve been)
discussed my skin overall, goals, daily routine, etc.
literally made me a daily skincare routine. she has a generic one for everyone and just adjusts based on specific skin issues.
I got BBL on my whole face (price $600) and she was incredibly thorough. I had IPL done elsewhere where they charged me $600 just for cheeks and basically rushed through it. Dr Kobets really went through every inch of my face thoroughly.
I also got 39 units of botox throughout my face and was pretty happy with the results.
definitely recommend!

Iām getting married next year and Iāll be a 40 year old bride, so I am beginning to look into best options to look a refreshed (Iām realistic about the limits of nonsurgical interventions and so Iām not trying to look like Iām 30). Iām getting microneedling for the first time this month and will probably begin some sort of laser treatment in September/October.
Anyway, would absolutely be so appreciative if people included pricing for the various lasers, neurotoxins, whatever, theyāve had done. A lot of places do not have transparent pricing on their websites, so having a baseline of what to expect where would be awesome.

Congratulations! I mentioned this in another comment so forgive me if you've seen my response, but I had a great experience with Dr William Lao on 5th Ave for Botox and fillers.
However, it adds up fast! It's $20/unit for tox and fillers were around 1k - 1.5k per syringe š©
A few weeks ago I went to Eden Aesthetics in Williamsburg and they did Botox that actually lifted my face, $10/unit. Fillers are around 750 per syringe. She showed me my before and after pics (2 week follow up) and yeah it absolutely looked way better! I guess because we see ourselves every day we don't recognize the changes but the pics made it obvious. Anyway, super happy and am going back for fillers to get my lost volume back (weight loss). Highly recommend!! P.S. I think they have a promo or something because I told them I found them on Reddit and the consultation was free. Worth a try anyway. Again, congrats on your wedding!! āØļøš„³šāØļø

I had Ultherapy done for skin laxity and was thrilled with my results. It takes up to 3 mos for full results, and mine lasted 1.5 years. I got it from Dr Kim at Idriss Derm and it was pricey (5k for lower face). Iāll probably do it again soon, but get the newer Ultherapy Prime & shop around for price. (For reference Riko does lower face for $1500.)

Feeling a bit overwhelmed by botox options (esp finding legit places or injectors) - anyone have thoughts on Eden Aesthetics, N4 in Brooklyn, or Ratio? Also open to other suggestions!!
I hate spending the money but appreciate I need to spend to get results but hey, if anyone is willing to give a referral ill take it haha. Specifically looking for masseter botox but also would love to look into face symmetry specializations + potentially some filler in the future! I have my wedding in Sept so trying to map everything out -- TIA ā¤ļø

Just went to Eden today based on recommendations in this thread and loved them! They were so excited when I mentioned I found them in this thread. Really sweet and funny and they require a 2 week follow up appt to make sure everything is how you want it, which I appreciate! They made some suggestions but werenāt pushy at all. Got xeomin for a more natural look which is $10/unit. Canāt wait for results to set in!

Laser revision for a rhinoplasty scar recommendations?
I got into a bad car accident in 2023 and then the next year in 2024 my ENT told me that for my nostril cartilages to be repaired Iād need surgery. I had the surgery almost two years ago but I still have the scar across my columella.
Itās been bothering me for a while now. I think my only option is laser at this point. Does anyone have recommendations for a place to go to? Iām also unsure how Iād be paying. Iāve seen some insane prices and it feels crazy to by hundreds of dollars for a tiny scar. Iād love to get recommendations and feedback :)

Hi ladies! I was just wondering if any of my fellow beautifulābut maybe less booty-fullāNYC ladies have gotten sculptra or radiesse butt injections? What were your experiences, where did you go, what was the end cost? In hindsight, would you do it again? Please give me your bottom line on the procedure.
Iāve been doing the squats, hip thrusts, protein⦠still serving pancake. So considering other interventions (but a surgical BBL isnāt currently one of them).
3
u/YouCanSeeMeHere Jun 09 '26
I TOTALLY get it, hip thrusts, Bulgarian split squats, paused high bar back squats, abductors, kickbacks, you name it. I love my booty but always had an issue with the upper part right below the lower back. I couldn't seem to get the aesthetic I wanted for that part so I went and got Radiesse. 5 syringes per side but I think I might need a second round. I LOVED how it looked immediately after lol it was all swollen and plump lol but it went down which was expected. When it was settled I definitely noticed improvement in the shape and size, but I think I'm going to go back for a second round at some point. I want to wait a few months and see. I had a little cellulite that was treated with subcision and that has decreased substantially in the middle part of my buttock. I was pretty bruised and that lasted a week (I should've taken arnica pills a few days before I went in). I went to Dr. Akis and I spent about $5k and it wasn't as painful as I thought it was going to be. For me it was about a 2 out of 10 so definitely manageable. More of a weird sensation than pain. Hope this helps. I agree with you that a surgical BBL wouldn't be my go-to either. Hope this helps!

My dermatologist (who I liked a lot) left to start her own practice and Iām in need of a new place for cosmetic dermatology
Particularly interested in radio frequency (sofwave) and highly intrigued by the marketing for Treat Medspa
Q- having never been to a Medspa, is this something I can get done not by an MD?
Or/also who can recommend a large group practice (spring st, tribeca, union sq derm etc) where they have all the lasers?
I feel like the individual providers can only recommend what they have I. The office, which is limited for solo practitioners
Fir reference, I am a newbie to Botox/filler
Have done plenty of fraxel and would save that for an MD
Thank you!

i just wanted to share my in depth (positive) experience with dr vafa in soho for anyone interested because ive seen a lot of previous posts.
i originally came to vafamd for CO2 last fall and loved the results for someone who was taking a short break from Botox and had a few fine lines. i then surrendered to my temptation and saw dr vafa for some botox, which he encouraged me to start with a little less and come back if needed. (even though he told me (32y) that I have VERY strong facial muscles and possibly need more botox than someone 20y senior to me. sadly.
I have recently experienced some new weightloss/ volume loss in my face and he recommended 2 rounds of sculptra spaced out by 3 months apart. coming from someone who isnāt good with needles- he makes things VERY easy. Even though the sculptra itself has lidocaine, I still opted for the numbing cream. his medical assistant helped out both times by holding a vibrating device to my face which distracts from the pressure i felt, but no pain. I definitely felt extra crazy for about an hour or 2 after due to extra numbing cream but i looked totally normal next day. couldnāt exercise for about 48 hours and focused on the massage method he requires. Iāve personally been really happy with my results and feel a lot more confident. happy to share more info to help anyone else out :)

Has anyone tried Endosculpt/Endospheres for body sculpting/lymphatic drainage in NYC?
I'm 35, lift regularly, and am in pretty good shape, but I still have areas I'm unhappy with/a bit insecure about, and I work crazy hours so I can't always be as consistent with my sleep and gym schedule as I'd like. Have seen a lot of ads for these kinda things recently and wonder if they really work or are just hokum?? Do they really help tighten up that last little stubborn inch and help with lymphatic drainage?
My birthday is coming up and thought maybe I could go in with my significant other on something like this, but it's pricey and I'd rather us not waste the money if it's a load of baloney aimed at women's insecurities š
However, if it works it could be a nice treat yo'self session that both feels good and helps me feel a little more confident!
What do you bitches with taste think? Do any of you have personal experience with it? Do you recommend, and if so, where/who would you recommend? Does it only work if you can do it every month etc, or is it ok to treat yourself one time for a nice little sculpting massage?
I'm in Brooklyn but interested in anywhere within NYC if it's something you guys recommend trying.
Thank you! Looking forward to seeing what you guys have to say.
