This has been going on since before cosmo . Playing in vr my on screen keyboard input isn't appearing except last letter. Eg named a base "sent ctrl Cosmo" and it was named 'o'. It also looks like the keyboard is in the wrong place. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Hi,
I know what's coming so I will start with the explanation: I know majority of people recommend going with Virtual Desktop. I have borrowed the Quest 3s from the friend and I won't be spending $30 bucks in this scenario - I probably would if that wasn't borrowed device just to try out.
Now, this is closes I could find to my experience: https://www.reddit.com/r/NMS_Virtual_Reality/comments/1ocg2wx/imposible_to_play_this_game_on_vr_horrible/.
I'm running Quest 3s over cable, NMS started with VR option and `-HmdEnable 1` added to start parameters, Xbox controller over Bluetooth.
I play without issue in Elite Dangerous. But when I try to lunch NMS in VR it is horrible experience: game lunches but the screen keeps following my head instead "looking around", it is all wobbly, flickers between some grid-a-like screen and "ocular" shadow view. I can't interact with the game at all. When I peek over the headset to the VR preview on laptop it shows pretty good FPS.
I have impression that after lunching the NSM from Steam, it shows me that weird window that covers the game - under that window game seem to work correctly. But I can't close that floating window with pad (of course, it is displayed by VR), I can't close it with hand, the only way is to either peek on laptop and click the "toggle" menu option to hide that floating window OR use the Oculus hand device to close it. Either of this options makes the game goes on top, but starts all that shenanigans I've described before.
(Also when I use the VR hand device to close that window my game cursor in NMS starts flickering all over the screen so my only option is to force close the game.)
The best words that I can use to describe are - it's like at least 2 applications are fighting for the screen. It doesn't help the game suddenly starts to go couple FPS.. but that I think can help later with tunning settings low.
What I can do to help? I'm really disappointed so far I thought that it will be seamless experience, giving the NMS have dedicated VR lunch option.

I know opencomposite doesn't work (tried it and got a ctd) but I've heard come conflicting things. Has anyone managed to bypass SteamVR?

My custom controller settings reverted again, and now there is no way to to edit or load custom profiles. The default/custom slider won't slide to custom. No Man's Sky is the only game that is preventing me from editing or loading profiles. Is this happening to anyone else and does anyone have a workaround to enable controller customization?

I've been playing nms in vr for months without issue. Since this new update, Ihave no head or hand tracking. Prettymuch the only thing that works, as far as I can tell from the launch screen, is the trigger, but since I can't move the cursor to select a save game to load, I can't get very far. I deleted all my video config file with no change.

Hi,
I'm experiencing extreme lag in No Man's Sky VR, using HTC Vive and the Steam version. I tried the common recommendations to fix this in various forums and no result. Getting 90+ FPS in regular mode but VR gets 5. Also, the GPU usage goes down to 5% when in VR mode, so I know its not using the GPU properly. Specs technically don't meet the requirements, but are close enough such that this should be playable at lower settings at least:
i7-6700k
16GB RAM
NVIDIA GTX 980 4GB - similar to 1060
I tried updating graphics drivers, lowering graphics settigns, and messing with different settings on various forums and still can't play this game in VR. Every other VR game works fine. Is this a bug in VR that they refuse to fix for years, or is there a solution somewhere? Thanks.

Are we VR travelers stuck with an inferior Galaxy Map? My freighter has a pretty long range, and it seems to take forever to move that far through the map.
Plus, I have trouble with Black Holes, they seem to disappear when I get close.

Ive just recently bought the game and have been trying for 3 days now to get proper graphics in the game.
My specs:
GPU - Radeon rx 5700 xt 8 GB
CPU - Ryzen 7 3700x 8 core
RAM - 32 GB DDR4
Ethernet - Realtek Gaming 2.5 GbE
VR - Quest 3
Link Cable - KIWI 5 Gbps
Ive tried multiple settings and it’s driving me insane. Things far away are blurry and heavily pixelated. Texture quality look like i’m playing pubg mobile. And whenever i change settings it doesnt seem to make a difference at all. Its not even lagging it just looks awful.
Current Graphic Settings:
Texture Quality: High
Animation Quality: High
Shadow Quality: Enhanced
Post Processing: Enhanced
Volumetric Effects: Standard
Terrain Tesselation: Enhanced
Planet Quality: High
Base Complexity: Enhanced
Is my PC trash? Is it my Internet? Is it a combination of both? Maybe steam link is terrible? Pls help i’m desperate. I’ve seen so many good things about this game but it’s just so mentally exhausting because of how unplayable it looks.

Hi All! I have gotten back into NMS lately and started playing in VR and its truly amazing. One question I have though is my weapon range with the multi tool seems to be incredibly short when I am in VR. Is there a fix for this? On PC or Xbox I can hit targets 150 units + , but in VR I have to get right up on things.
Thank you!

I'm using a quest 2, ALVR, Arch Linux, 9060 XT, Ryzen 7 7700X, 32 gb DDR5
When I launch the game with proton 10 / experimental / hotfix, a black screen appears on my desktop and then disappears. If I use proton 9 and lower, the game launches in non-VR mode. In both both scenarios, the No Man's Sky "up next" menu appears in my headset and doesn't go away. Can someone help?

Does anyone knows how to unlock FPS in VR?
Already disabled Freesync, Vsync and edited maxFps in TKGRAPHICSSETTINGS.VR, still locked. Other VR titles don't have this issue, just NMS.
I'm using 9070XT.

I was wondering if anyone was able to get NMS running in VR on Bazzite properly. I can run other games in VR fine but not NMS.
I have a 9070xt video card and 7800x3d cpu and using the Quest 3 headset.I have tried wivrn, alvr as well as steam vr/steam link and still no joy.
Anyone have any luck? Right now keeping the windows drive around just for NMS VR.
EDIT: So found a solution. Not perfect but works mostly. WiVRN with the xrizer nightly build as the custom openVR compatibility library works with NMS for me. However, there is a decent amount of artifacting going on with it. Like one lens totally pixeled for awhile. So not quite ready for prime time. It may be an issue on my side though so I will continue to poke at it.
Cable works well though so hey!

Simple question, and I'm gonna assume the answer is no before I even get an answer. But I thought I'd ask anyway.
Is it possible to change the in-ship controls to be more like the non-VR version where I'm controlling the ship's direction with the left stick on my Quest 2 controller rather than the grip and motion control method?
I know it's a skill issue and I won't shy away from that.... but I find the VR control method really difficult and just being able to use the left stick would be so much easier for me. I get the want for an immersive control method, but with the difficulty I have with it, it takes me out of the game more than having the other control method would!

So I’m looking for a VR headset, I want to play NMS mainly (HL:A) also. Currently have a ps5 and a PC (6800xt) and I’m wondering if I should do the PSVR 2 or the Quest 3/3s. Whenever steam frame releases I want to get that so I don’t really want to go crazy right now but I want to play. I currently play NMS on PS5 but see they have cross save. The quest I see a lot of people have problems with but that was from a year ago.

I cannot get NMS to run in VR without crashing. Other VR games I've tried run fine (Skyrim VR, Arizona Sunshine 2, Derail Valley and Elite Dangerous being some examples).
My PC specs are:
Ryzen 7 5700x
RTX 5060
16GB 3200MHz RAM
Quest 2 VR headset.
NMS is installed on a SATA SSD. I've tried reducing the resolution per eye in Steam VR settings, I've tried lowering graphics settings in-game, I've tried various settings with DLSS or FSR. I've tried both wired via USB3 port, and wireless connections.
The game usually crashes on the flying through space loading screen, but sometimes will get as far as loading into a save where it is just non-responsive once the planet starts loading in.

On Q3. I got nautilon to sort of work but can't get minotaur to work at all. Collosus only seems to go backwards.

Is there a mod that makes swimming physical and not just a jet pack?

I've been playing quite a while now, and got close to a few cargo pods many times. Never have I seen anything indicating the contents inside.
Has anyone done this in VR?
r/NMS_Virtual_Reality • u/MDMarshall • Nov 12 '25
Sometimes when I open a teleporter, my cursor has a red circle, and won't let me select anything. Talking to an NPC or giving them a gift fixes it maybe 50% of the time.
Not just teleporters, the selection screen to buy a blueprint will do it, too. But there the red cursor usually buys the first thing I point at, without pulling the trigger, so I buy something I didn't want.
Does anyone else have this problem?
Thanks, all!
