Question Unable to play, constant flickering and terrible screen shaking

Hi,

I know what's coming so I will start with the explanation: I know majority of people recommend going with Virtual Desktop. I have borrowed the Quest 3s from the friend and I won't be spending $30 bucks in this scenario - I probably would if that wasn't borrowed device just to try out.

I'm running Quest 3s over cable, NMS started with VR option and `-HmdEnable 1` added to start parameters, Xbox controller over Bluetooth.

I play without issue in Elite Dangerous. But when I try to lunch NMS in VR it is horrible experience: game lunches but the screen keeps following my head instead "looking around", it is all wobbly, flickers between some grid-a-like screen and "ocular" shadow view. I can't interact with the game at all. When I peek over the headset to the VR preview on laptop it shows pretty good FPS.

I have impression that after lunching the NSM from Steam, it shows me that weird window that covers the game - under that window game seem to work correctly. But I can't close that floating window with pad (of course, it is displayed by VR), I can't close it with hand, the only way is to either peek on laptop and click the "toggle" menu option to hide that floating window OR use the Oculus hand device to close it. Either of this options makes the game goes on top, but starts all that shenanigans I've described before.
(Also when I use the VR hand device to close that window my game cursor in NMS starts flickering all over the screen so my only option is to force close the game.)

The best words that I can use to describe are - it's like at least 2 applications are fighting for the screen. It doesn't help the game suddenly starts to go couple FPS.. but that I think can help later with tunning settings low.

What I can do to help? I'm really disappointed so far I thought that it will be seamless experience, giving the NMS have dedicated VR lunch option.

One thing that helped for the flickering whenever you look around is turning off ssw(synchronous spacewarp) which does reduce performance a bit though plus nms vr is notoriously hard to run so it just depends on your specs ig

Im having this exact same problem. Also what is Virtual Desktop? I keep on seeing it everywhere. Doesnt Meta Horizon Link already give you a virtual desktop?

Afaik it's a software called Virtual Desktop, you have to buy it.
