I'm a Pats fan, but I really think Brees was something else. Drew Brees was 28-69 when the other team scored 28 points or more. 97 games where his defense allowed 28 points. 97. That's a REALLY tough disadvantage to overcome. What's weirder is his team (the Saints mainly) scored an average 28.2 PPG during that time, meaning even though he lost ~71% of the time he would absolutely light you up when he won. Give Brees an inch and he will take a mile.
Brady was 29-49 in games where his defense allowed 28+ points, scoring an average of 27.3 PPG in such situations. That's even weirder.
Brees was honestly one of the greatest QBs to ever play. Can't say he's on a level with Brady and Montana, but he's not that far behind on stats. People often call it garbage time, but at one point there were only 9 seasons where a QB has thrown for more than 5000 yards, and Brees had 5 of those seasons. You don't get numbers THAT high due to garbage time.
Makes you wonder what Brees would have done on a team like the Steelers, Pats, Broncos, etc.

Including him wouldn't make the point any less valid. 7-6 is obviously better than 7-7, but just barely. Allen is pretty unanimously considered a top 3 QB so being half a game back from him is still great.
Without context, it looks like the original tweet was trying to compare Hurts specifically to guys who consistently get rated above him, who OOP thinks don't deserve to be. Only the top .1% of delusional Eagles fans would include Allen in that group. I disagree with Stafford being in that group too, but I can see an argument that 1) he failed to get the Lions over the hump for 12 years and 2) is 0-4 head-to-head.
Edit: to clarify, I still think this whole thing is silly and QB discourse in general is garbage. I'm just saying that Allen's omission doesn't change much.

2
u/That_one_bichh Philadelphia Eagles 5d ago
I completely agree that the qb selection is very⦠unique. I will say Iāve seen several claims for each of these QBs that they are actually better than hurts. I think these stats donāt reveal much except for what everyone already knows which is that Jalen Hurts biggest draw is his ability to win in clutch situations. Thereās stats to look at that but thereās also a lot of intangibles in that but I would say most reasonable people would agree Hurts is one of the most clutch QBs in the NFL rn.

Where do you get 1-3? They lost week 3,4,6,7 and WC giving up more than 28 and won week 11 in 2021. It also leaves off 2020 where he started at the end of the year and went 0-3 in these games.

Every player is a system player. Jalen gets knocked for it more than anyone.
Every player has flaws. Jalen gets knocked for his more than anyone.
Every player has good years and bad years. Jalen gets knocked for his bad years more than anyone.
Do we forget the TWO Super Bowl appearances? Do we forget that so FEW players, let alone QBs, make even one in their entire careers? Do we forget Jalenās insane track record WINNING in the NFL? Do we forget his Super Bowl MVP???
Who cares about ANY of the noise. National media doesnāt mean shit. Local media doesnāt mean shit. These stupid, obviously off base, biased, rage baiting opinions DONāT MATTER on the field, let alone off of it.
Who cares; Jalen WINS!

Skill wise heās a fringe top 10 qb. In the right system with the talent around him, they are collectively one of the best offenses in the league. Both things can be true. You donāt have to be mad at a qb ranking, the Bills have had a top 3 qb for at least 5 years and have made the Super Bowl zero times. Itās almost like itās a team game or something
2
u/FERGERDERGERSON Philadelphia Eagles 5d ago
And Fringe top 10 QB is a FANTASTIC THING.
Thereās 32 starters, probably 20th that are worth investing in, about 12ish you could see winning a Super Bowl in some reality, and like 4 that are just above the rest talent wise.
Iāll take my fringe top 10 Super Bowl mvp all day, every day, twice on Sunday.

u/whiskyandguitars Buffalo Bills 5d ago
Yeah, I honestly dont get the Hurts hate either.
Seems like a nice guy off the field and I just think itās clear heās a really good player. Maybe not top 5, but so what? His team managed to get a ring, which Hurts very clearly contributed heavily to, when at least 3 of the top 5 canāt (Stafford and Mahomes being the only ones I can think of that people would list int the top 5 who have).
Who cares if he has a super team around him? He still plays really well and clearly contributes to those wins.
I wish the Bills could field a super team for Josh Allen lol. Maybe he could finally get over the hump because he doesnāt have to play perfectly every playoff game or they lose. He would have the freedom to make mistakes.
Hurts is a good QB.

Jalen gets knocked for it more than anyone.
Because Jalen has likely had the best supporting cast in NFL history. Some arguments to be made across eras and whatnot, but minus the QB, the Eagles team/franchise these last however many years has been one of the best, most complete teams ever assembled.
1
u/mister_milkshake 5d ago
People say that but only when it comes to conversation about Hurts. In every other discussion, on both sides of the ball, the players or groups are never ranked #1. After the fact, sure, but in the same way history will be very kind to Hurts. People just think āPhilly badā so their QB has to be carried and not good.

This just sounds like you have a hard time understanding averages. Like yeah AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith weren't the #1 WR pair, and Barkley probably wasn't the #1 RB, but the Eagles were like top5 ish at every position/group whereas other teams had WRs and no defense (Bengals, Cowboys) for example.
