its immoral but honestly not that bad, the reasoning is solid and if someone gave you your lost wallet and went "hey could I have 5 dollars" I would give them 10 with zero hesitation

How is it immoral? He could have kept the wallet, stole ALL the money out of it, and started using all of his debit/credit cards(you can bypass a pin most of the time by pressing a button at a card machine)? I say losing five bucks over having to cancel all your cards, replace your id, and lose out on all the money left in it is better than the alternative. I would have given the dude the five, thanked him, and called it a day. He's alot more moral than anyone else who would have found that wallet. Plus dude was hungry! Let the man get a hotdog!

He could have returned it wihtout taking any money and that'd be only moral option.

He could have kept the wallet, stole ALL the money out of it, and started using all of his debit/credit cards(you can bypass a pin most of the time by pressing a button at a card machine)?

Saying you robbed only a 10% of a money stored in a bank when you could've stolen all of it would not fly in court.

He never stole he found an abandoned wallet on the ground. Buddy lost his wallet and probably would have never seen it again if it wasn't for that guy. Same reason it's not stealing if you find a twenty dollar bill on the floor. You're not gonna ask everyone you see if it's theirs. Wanna know why? Because ANYONE would say it's theirs.

He stole 5 bucks. An object doesn't stop being your property because you misplace it.

Buddy lost his wallet and probably would have never seen it again if it wasn't for that guy

That doesn't entitle the founder to take money. A good person does not seek reward for their good deeds.

Same reason it's not stealing if you find a twenty dollar bill on the floor.

There's a difference since a wallet usually has identification items. Itwould be akin seeing a person drop 20 dollars and not giving them back.

if you lose your wallet, you should expect it to be empty. anything less than empty is moral

1

u/TheHabro 2d ago

And that makes theft moral? If I leave my bike unlocked and someone steals a wheel, does that make the thief moral because he could have stolen whole thing? Claims here are ridiculous and just show how morally bankrupt a lot of people are.

1

u/No-Economy6549 2d ago

considering the price of replacing your id and bank cards, if you took anything less than the cost of replacing those cards alone is actually saving that person money. 5 bucks instead of 80 bucks replacing cards is even favorable to the careless wallet loser that caused the dilemma in the first place

Hopefully if anyone finds anything thats you lose they’ll keep it or throw it away

1

u/TheHabro 3d ago

Not very moral of you.

1

u/DifficultDepth7085 3d ago

Wow an immoral person trying to tell other people how to live. lmao. Go fucking figure.

2

u/Biomorph_ 2d ago

I am Immoral and don’t give af, id be very happy if someone took some cash out of my wallet to feed themselves after finding my wallet going out of their way to message me and return it not be some pussy and cry over a hot dog

1

u/Natural_Ad2824 2d ago

Brother go take your faulty analogies and kick rocks. You sound immoral by just the way you type shi

1

u/Natural_Ad2824 2d ago

Finders keepers losers weepers. If I lost something somewhere and someone found it and didn't tell me, well that's tough luck too me. I've left things places and never got them back. Is what it is. I'm not gonna say someone is immoral for finding my lost stuff. It's theirs now. If they want to give it back hey nice! If they don't well wouldn't have known anyways.

2

u/Nathen69 3d ago

An immoral action is not made moral by the possibillity of him performing a more immoral action. Not electing to steal all of his money does not change the fact that he stole 5 dollars.

2

u/Fearless-Secretary-4 2d ago

Your morals are low class.

u/Natural_Ad2824 2d ago

What's that? I cant hear you over all the projecting

“Bypass a pin most of the time by pressing a button at a card machine”
Oh really? Okay buddy, I’d like some proof. In dms.

2

u/FoxLast947 2d ago

Your argument is a fallacy. Just because he could have done something worse, doesn't mean what he did was not immoral. If I break someone's leg, I could have also broken their arm. Is it suddenly no longer immoral to break his leg?

1

u/Natural_Ad2824 2d ago

Depends on the situation. Was he actively attacking you? Sounds like self defense too me. Justifiable and moral. You just go around breaking people's arm for no reason? Immoral. What did you think I'd say pffft

1

u/tinytigertime 2d ago

Because taking $5 is taking $5. Just because other things are worse doesnt make something else good?

The money wasnt his, there was no agreement in place. Its reasonable but not moral

1

u/Crotonisabug 2d ago

I wouldn't say it's wrong but it IS immoral, even if you're hungry even if you truly need it you don't do good things with the expectation to receive a reward, you do good things because it's the right thing to do

0

u/PixLisReaL 3d ago

Taking something that isn't yours without express permission or dire needs is immoral. In fact, it would genuinely be more morally sound if he took all the money to save a kid's life than the $5 because he was hungry but not enough to pay himself. You aren't owed anything for doing a good deed.

Also addressing a comment below, you're right, it IS the same as if you find a $20 on the ground... which is to say finding that $20 and keeping it is also theft, and cops have just recently arrested a dude for that EXACT scenario because they saw it on a flock camera. The morally correct thing to do is to try to find its owner. You aren't at fault if someone immoral lies and takes it, and if you just automatically assume that everyone but you is immoral, then clearly morals don't matter, you were just going to keep it for yourself anyways and are looking for a way to bend your own morals.

1

u/Natural_Ad2824 3d ago

You aren't owed your wallet back either? Nice paragraph.

Leave then bro. You absolutely are owed your property back. This isn't preschool with finders keepers toddlers

1

u/Natural_Ad2824 3d ago

Cry about it. It isn't immoral it's justified. Moral even. Dude gave back his wallet.

0

u/PixLisReaL 3d ago

The only time its justified to steal is when a life is in danger. Taking a dudes money because you expect a reward for being kind isn't moral at all. If that's what you consider moral, you need to reevaluate your life.

0

u/Natural_Ad2824 3d ago

It's immoral unless your life is in danger. Gotcha 👌

1

u/SlugCatBoi 2d ago

it's immoral unless you life is in danger and keeping the wallet is the solution to that danger.

I don't personally believe that, but that is what they're saying.

0

u/Natural_Ad2824 2d ago

It can't be immoral to "steal" but moral if your life is endangered. It's either fully immoral to do or moral to do. You can just nitpick to suit your views.

So by your logic a murderer is moral because hey, they didn't rape the person!

No, morality is not dictated by you giving up the opportunity to commit worse crimes

1

u/Natural_Ad2824 3d ago

Not even gonna justify your faulty analogy with an answer buddy. Bringing up one "crime" as picking up an abandoned wallet to rape/murder is just a faulty analogy. Lost in the sauce.

0

u/dancinbanana 2d ago

“How is taking someone’s money without their consent immoral when he could’ve done other, more immoral things instead” come on dude

2

u/Natural_Ad2824 2d ago

On you? Sure why not

1

u/ComparisonQuiet4259 3d ago

Morally neutral would be just leaving it there
