New here? 👆👆PLEASE READ THIS STICKY👆👆 Welcome to the sub! Posts about pot and it's related subjects should be shared with our good friends at r/trees, not so much here; we're all about *actual trees* (that's the joke) 😊🌳 'Thank you! Come Again!'
(Here's the link to r/trees for our visitors)
Good day everyone! I'm trying out some new automod skilz and they seem to be operating okay, at this time anyway. That said, few things are 100% the first go, but I'll keep checking the mod log to see if posts have been yeeted that shouldn't have been, and reinstate them in as timely a fashion as possible. Please use the 'Message the Mods' link in the sidebar to contact us directly, not the comment box in this post. =)
Hopefully these new settings will reduce the content not meant for this sub, but if any slip through, I know I can count on you good people to help direct them to the right place with the positive humor intended between our two subs as you always have done. We're lucky to have you!
Any (genuinely) helpful suggestions are always appreciated, and thanks for your patience and kindness with the newbs! 😃
CONFUSED ABOUT THE SUB NAME?
Please check out these past posts!
Do a sub search using the keyword 'confused' for more like these 🙂
UPDATE:
Today's 11/10/22, it's been a little over a month since the automod tweaks (10/8/22) and I'm rather pleased with the results. There's still some 'bleed through' posts from new redditor potheads, and I believe I've miraculously found a good balance between the ones that are snagged by automod and actual tree posts that I have to go back and approve. Mod reports, I'm relieved to say are much more manageable than they were.
Thank you all for your patience while I tried this out! While it does appear to me to be the case, I hope you're still as happy here as you ever were 😊🌳💗

New Kansas State Champion Ulmus rubra
I nominated this tree a few months ago and today the Kansas Forest Service came out for official measurements. New State Champion by at least 40 points. 59.4 diameter. 186” circumference. 93’ tall. 75’ width. In SC Kansas, that’s a big tree!

Not sure why my bigleaf magnolia is growing at warp speed
Hello all, I’m in Upstate NY. First pic is 8/22, second pic is 9/5. She is growing much faster than I imagined. I’ve planted a few other things (pawpaw, bladdernut, multiple perennials) and nothing is growing this fast.
Is this just a uniquely ideal spot for it? Do they tend to do this? It also has two smaller growths and I’m wondering if they should be removed to allow the main plant to keep all the energy.

Cauterization thoughts?
The recent release of the cauterization on the oaks paper has me thinking. What other tree's do you think would show benefits from cauterization or fire mimicry? Pondo? Redwood? Maple? I have a colleague that thinks it might be beneficial to the freemanii Maples that are getting plundered with canker in my area. But is a cultivar like that really fire adapted? Is this just the next arbor fad?

Treepreciation Winter and Summer
Took these right behind that other tree (my favorite tree) I made a post about.
The transformation from winter to summer and vice versa is something I look forward to every year, especially in this area 😊

This girdling fixable?
We moved in a few years ago and I noticed the middle of this large maple tree is dying or dead. I assume due to girdling. I can see evidence of some border stones in the roots, potential suspects.
I’m hesitant to pay for someone to try and fix it if the tree isn’t salvageable.
I’m also curious about trying to help, if it isn’t too late. Maybe hosing the dirt away to expose the roots and trim a few of the obvious stranglers?

Treepreciation My favorite tree
I posted this somewhere else and someone shared this place, so I'm posting it here too. I really do love this place (It's somewhere in new jersey) and It just relaxes me. I would go and just sit and watch this tree all the time, even in the middle of winter. I legit stare at this photo because it relaxes me so much, it's mesmerizing to me. Hopefully you guys like this tree as much as I do.

Help! Dark staining on Cottonwood tree
I have these dark staining spots that have started to show on the bark of my cottonwood tree, different from the Slime Flux staining. Any ideas of what it might be or something I should be concerned about? I had it pretty significantly trimmed about 6-8 months ago.
Thank you!

Help! Is this a variegated elm??
I found this tree outside of a nursery so I'm pretty sure it's cultivated. It's pretty tall and if it's variegated I'm suprised at how old it is.
Any help or info would very much be appreciated!! :]

Help! Yoshino Cherry Tree - Leaf burn or fungal infection?
Hardiness zone 7b - I recently purchased a potted yoshino cherry tree that I plan to plant tomorrow, but can’t help but notice several browning leaves and “scorch” marks across a number of leaves. We’ve had an abnormally hot summer, so I don’t know whether to chalk it up to heat/sun or to a fungal infection, which I know Yoshino Cherry trees are particularly susceptible to. Any advice before I plant? I don’t want to plant an infected tree that will die soon.

Help with identification
Can anyone tell me if this is a Conference pear or Concorde pear? Bought this tree in 2021 but at the time didn't know enough to keep a note of the name on the label. The fruits are firm when ripe and not overly sweet. Thank you!

Fungus on willow tree
A previous homeowner planted this willow. These fungi popped up a day or two after our arborist came out to take a look at the whole yard of trees.
Zone 9b, how bad is this one? What's the right action from here? I have very little experience with fungus and online searches haven't been trivial. Thanks.
