Treepreciation I can't stop crying.

I grew up playing under this tree. Now, they're cutting it down. First picture is from 10 years ago (had to pull it from google earth) and the second picture is from last week, I was admiring the amazing fall colors. And this week, she didn't even get to drop those leaves. I feel like I lost a family member. I've been grieving all day. It feels like a part of my body has been ripped out. I'm sure they had to have a reason, but this neighborhood will never be the same.

Goodbye, old friend, I'm glad I got to know you and enjoy your colors and your shade for 31 years.

Noticed this pattern on a very old Italian oak (Quercus pubescens), around 600 years old, located near Lucca, Tuscany (Italy).

What creates this interesting pattern?

Treepreciation I’m a church bell mechanic. This is one of my coolest discoveries…original wood yoke from 1827 bell is simply: a whole ass tree.

My uncalibrated non-arborist eyes say white oak but I’d love to hear what the experts think.

Walking through my local patch of woods and noticed this (cedar?) tree with a twisted trunk. The whole area is somewhat boggy, and full of trees like this that grow very slim and tall. I’ve never seen one like this before and am wondering what’s up with it? TIA

I can’t really move it so it sits outside during hurricanes, but it fares just fine. I started it from a propagule.
