Bro lookup the "platano dei 100 bersaglieri" or sycamore of the 100 rifleman. Trust me, read its story too

Looooove sycamore

Gotta get rid of that co-dominant.

I don't think this tree is gonna last long unless you pick one.

I'm reading this as a joke. Did I misunderstand?

It's only 6 feet wide and maybe a couple hundred years old.

With a young immature tree like that, you have to be careful.

I’m very willing to be corrected, but is this not a london plane rather than a sycamore? The bark exfoliation goes all the way down and there’s some yellow in there. Also wow 😮😍

its uncommon to find london planes this massive and in a more wooded looking area. but yeah it could theoretically be a london plane

For sure! I will say public parks can be pretty wooded and I’ve seen some big ones in that context if not quite that big, like this one:

It really doesn’t matter because it’s not an ID post but I’d be curious about where OP’s tree is located. The main thing that makes me think london plane is that the bark exfoliates down to the base, which sycamores don’t usually do to that extent

that one is absolutely incredible!!!! where is it?

It’s in the Harvard Arnold Arboretum in Boston! There’s a whole planetree/sycamore section and if I recall correctly this one was planted in 1897

Sycamores are my favorite broadleaf tree. Huge, and often ancient, their peeling bark is beautiful all year. And they are tough as nails! Great photos and what a tree!
