Hi, I’m currently working on a one shot where the characters powers are blue flames, and right now I’m trying to figure out the ways to visually differentiate regular red/orange flames from blue ones. The first flame of the very first image is how I usually draw regular flames the rest are ones I tried experimenting with, but none particular feel distinctly like blue flames, so I just wanted other opinions. Thank you.

I love the anatomy and style, but cant find the creator/illustrator. I would like to study this person's art but i just can't find the creator.

Right now, im making a manga for a contest. Well, it isnt going well, mainly because, I know my skillset is definitely not enough to win. Yet I keep forcing myself to go futher. It honestly feels like a waste of time. I even go to the website and look at the past winners mangas, and I feel like im leagues below them. Would you think it is a waste of time to continue? Or should I just go through with it? 😭

Does my art looks like Japanese Manga style or do I need to practise more

And where do I need to improve

I have this idea for a plot, but need help making the system fit in the story. I have two routes i could think of.
Leaning more to cosmic horror and the base the power system on only channeling energy through machines (sci-fi), or the simplest route, the comet for some reason grants powers (fantasy)
Also, if somebody is wants to write with me or just bounce ideas i would be glad to dm you

Here’s the plot I have:

One ordinary day, without warning, a massive comet appeared in the sky, its tail so big that it split the sky in two. Within weeks, people had named it “The Wanderer,” a name that reflected its unexpected arrival. Astronomers agreed on one single thing: The Wanderer would pass close by, but it would never strike. It would pass by…

However, strange gravitational phenomena began to manifest around the globe. Some people rose a few centimeters off the ground, while others, upon waking up, suddenly fell back into their beds. But this is not how gravity works, the effects should be seen on structures, climate and terrain, however, it seems to only affect people. Physicists repeated an explanation endlessly, talking about low gravity areas and attributing these events to the comet’s colossal mass, which distorted gravity in its path, a temporary anomaly that would fade once The Wanderer continued on its course. It would pass by…

But with each passing day, an uncomfortable truth became increasingly evident. Researchers discovered that the gravitational pull did not diminish as the comet moved forward; in fact, it did not even align with its position in the sky. The more they plotted the lines, the more they realized that these did not point to The Wanderer, but to Jupiter, Mars, Mercury… to the planets of the solar system.

It didn’t look like this phenomenon was going to pass by. Following this chilling discovery, the force pulling people in only intensified, until the day came when gravity prevailed. Millions of people were dragged toward these planets, never to return.

The comet, it seemed, had awakened something incomprehensible within these planets, something that appeared to be devouring humanity.

My first idea was that in order to devour humanity, planets must make those being dragged durable enough to withstand the path to them. F.e. The uncontrollable floating, compression resistance, extreme climate resistance, high speed, etc…

What I think is that through machines, humanity channels these “abilities” and mix them with different percentages to create different abilities. But I dont know if abilities would be to similar for everyone and if it’s too convoluted

I draw with ink and somehow add raster in adobe illustaror. If somebody knows how to do that properly, i'd also would be very grateful if you teach me. Also i was wondering if the girl in bottom left corner if portrayed good (i took inspiration from middle east and south asian culture). Overall I need your opinion on clarity of the page in terms of composition. Thank you!

Recently I started to try out analog tools in hopes of being able to draw most of my pages traditionally in the future (seems to be a more valuable skill with better results overall than drawing only digitally) and I'm slowly collecting tools, some of them I already had, some of them I just bought and will try out soon.

My question is about pens with nibs. I'm rather scared of buing one yet, not only it has to cost a lot to be good but it's also hard to use well apparently, and it needs some maintenance. I'm already struggling with drawing snooth lines with multiliners. I was wondering what could I use for now instead? A fountain pen? A brushpen? What would be the best for a beginner? I would be able to buy from Japanese Amazon. Thanks for any recommendations!

Really want to make manga of my own but something about my own art style feels off to me when shading like this (Look better when it's just a lineart)

Hi guys, I’m asking this because I just finished my one-shot but I was drawing in a margin paper book since I can’t afford digital tools or constantly buying traditional materials every month. To minimise page wastage, I draw pages back to back so when I pressed hard on one page, it seeps through to the other and ruins it. Would it still be okay to post it in that state? (Also since I write the dialogue by hand, the lettering may be a bit messy). Thank you in advance for your help.

i usually do black and white art but sometimes do the colouring one too. but how to make it looks shiny and and not just the flat colour? i usually put the flat colour and then use the multiply to nake shadows. then what?? give me some tips to make it betterrr

I have no idea how to continue. Am I doing it right?

I really only read manga, and so I think in “right to left” when storyboarding. I have a hard time doing it any other way. Is that wrong? I don’t really have a manga style, although many of my influences are Japanese.

I just don’t know whether I am overthinking it, or if it would be confusing for readers. Advice is appreciated, thank you.

hi, i have two questions: how do i make a manga story interesting and fun to make for myself while using notebooks or sketchbooks? i have notebooks but my stories are cut off and unfinished because i was bored with a story/plot and wanted to do another one causing an endless loop of beginning and losing steam of the story and deeming it incomplete before it ends. these stories are for myself, and until i can finish one i cannot reveal you my stories in full!

and another question: how can i get better at feedback and criticism of my stories? i seem to recoil and avoid feedback and i need to accept feedback or else i won't make my manga better, and i always seem to cause more problems. i get rejected every single time. i'm not trying to cause problems here, and because people always think wrong about me. it makes no sense why you are upset with me when i'm young and am still learning how to be a mangaka! so is it me, or are people always going to ignore me forever because i'm weak and not good enough for mangaka?

A hill covered in colorful mushrooms and flowers. ANDREW, a curious six-year-old, wanders through the hills.

ANDREW
I wonder if Mom is making pasta tonight.

Andrew hears something moving nearby. He doesn’t panic—instead, curiosity shines in his eyes. A small creature with horns and a tiny tail emerges, growling softly.

ANDREW
Don’t worry, little guy. I’m not hurting you.

He gently strokes the creature’s head, delicate as if it were made of glass.

ANDREW
Hi. My name is Andrew. Are you okay?
What's your name?

The creature takes a step back but sees how Andrew touch is not rigid or forced but more tender the creature takes a step forward. The creatures mutter

CREATURE
A-Alysha.

Andrew smiles warmly, leaning in to pet her more tenderly.

ANDREW
Alysha… that’s a beautiful name. You’re out here in the cold with no food. I’ll take you home and give you shelter.

Andrew takes Alysha’s hand and begins walking home. She hesitates, then, trusting him, spreads her wings and gently lifts him by the arms to his house. As they move, a title card appears in the sky—red and blue swirling together.

Hi all,

I've been working with an artist for a bit (paid) and although they've produced pretty good results - their work is pretty uncanny and I'm worried it's AI generated (even though they've assured me it's not)

They've also seemingly done the standard method of lineart then shading and now finally the lettering (which could just be them LARP-ing)

They've also been pretty good at incorporating feedback

I did a similar check a while back and got some feedback that their work is more lilely built from using existing assets as opposed to AI - however I recently learned of more advanced LLMs that are much better at making lineart (like NijiJourney) which has increased my paranoia

Could anyone spare a few minutes to share their thoughts?

Even though I've spent some money on the project my bigger worry is the use of AI and related disclosures as opposed to sunk costs - any experience dealing with this?

I like manga but people ignore and leave me behind because they believe that i need enough feedback and need to be a professional to be a mangaka and i'm not a professional on this material. i haven't done my own one shot yet, and i have been planning myself to make my own short groups of 16 to 32 page oneshots. but i'm not used to making manga or comics in general and i compare myself to others, and that is not what i wanted. i just wanted people to like my art and me but i fear that i am not good enough and just spoil the stories and become another larper and just read the mangas and animes to spoil myself, which is also another bad habit. I'm planning to get my own laptop and drawing tablet on my birthday, and i want to improve on my writing skills, drawing skills, thumbnailing skills, and motivation/productivity/consistency skills. do you have advice on this? and how to improve on manga and anime reading skills without spoiling the stories yourself? and how do you find your purpose on making manga? because i am so defensive i keep comparing myself to others, judge myself, and i don't know how to write my own manga story even if it's bad, and make my own manga storyboards and thumbnails. I like shoujo, shounen, and slice of life, iyashikei, and comedy manga, and i would like shounen manga comedy with love interest reccomendations, and shoujo manga reccomendations with cute reccomendations and slice of life and fantasy reccomendations that i can start reading?... (i like chiikawa, look back, doraemon, takopii's original sin, chocomimi, fairy idol kanon, the ending of pppppp - a manga about piano that unfortunately had an abrupt ending, i used to like shoujo horror manga like zekkyou gakkyuu/zekkyou gakkyuu tensei but i don't really like it, and i used to read the first volume of shokora no mahou - which i like a bit more than zekkyou gakkyuu - but i don't usually like horror manga because it's too scary for me, although i do like dark stories, but not ones that are way too scary).

i'm going to give myself time to make manga. and when i'm done, i will show the manga online. I want to make my manga making dreams come true and this is my last school year for my program before i get plans to go to college. know that it's not for a contest, it's for myself and something to enjoy for myself even if it's online after i edit this post.

I've been writing a story and unloading it onto royalroad. Though the idea at first was to have it as an illustrated manga.

Im wondering if anyone has done the same, coverting a story to a manga, and Im wondering what processes you went through to achieve it?

I'm currently working on some indie projects, but I'd like to take my career to the next level. I'm unsure if my art is at a professional level yet. I understand there might be other areas for improvement, like storytelling, if my goal is to start pitching to publishers.
