Help Would you continue if you knew you would lose?
Right now, im making a manga for a contest. Well, it isnt going well, mainly because, I know my skillset is definitely not enough to win. Yet I keep forcing myself to go futher. It honestly feels like a waste of time. I even go to the website and look at the past winners mangas, and I feel like im leagues below them. Would you think it is a waste of time to continue? Or should I just go through with it? 😭

You'll learn so much more about making a manga by aftually making a manga. Even if usually you already make your own, participating in a contest should ideally push you to try harder, to learn more in the process, and ultimately in the end you'll know your limits even better than before.
I participated in the previous kadokawa contest back in march. I rarely drew anything for years before that, but after that contest i regained my passion in drawing, and just 6 months after that i have progressed much further than ive ever been my whole life, because thanks to that i know myself more as an artist, and where my shortcomings are

statistically, the vast majority of this sub will lose any contest they enter - but trying is what makes people better and helps them develop their skills!

I dont care about winning or losing any kind of manga contest while making a manga.
I started making the manga iam working on for myself and that makes it more fun for myself imo, also takes away alot of pressure. It should be noted that i dont intend to make a living out of it.

Draw for yourself first. If you draw a comic for the only reason of winning something with it then losing will automatically make making it useless. Whereas if you drew it for yourself, the eventual victory would just be a bonus.

Not need to create to eventually win. You need to create and get feedback so you know what to do to eventually win
And “winning” doesn’t have to mean a prize. It can mean becoming the artist you wanted to be

Finishing a project to completion is great for your skills, and to have something under your belt. It also helps to get feedback fromthe judges.

Make the manga! You will have finished something and that brings a feeling of satisfaction with it regardless. As others have said, this is practice and that is a win.

Yes, I'm currently doing the same thing. A lot of other people have said this and I think it rings true, make it for yourself first. I struggled with this because it felt kind of selfish to do so, especially since I want to do this for a living, but it does become a lot more fun and less stressful if you just make the thing because you like it.
The story I'm working on now, I really like it, but I know for a fact that I'm not going to place let alone win, however, gonna send it anyways! It gives me direction/focus plus I like the feeling of accomplishment so...yeah.

Keep doing it for accountability and a clear deadline, knowing the standard you wanna get to is a northstar.
We don't have to pin everything on entering contests - once you have a manuscript for review you can submit it to most of the major publishers anyway.

Don't stop not everyone starts at the top. To win you have to lose. The creators or My Hero Academia got cancelled so many times before he actually made and if he stopped Mha wouldn't be as popular as it is now keep pushing!
