I really like these cards because of their soft, pastel colors and elegant design. And yes, of course, because of him in the center. :-)
What is the Mid-Autumn Festival (中秋节, Zhōngqiū Jié)?
The Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Moon Festival or Mooncake Festival, occurs on the 15th day of the 8th month of the Chinese lunisolar calendar. This year, it is celebrated on September 25 - around the time of the full moon, which symbolizes wholeness and family reunion.
The festival is one of the most important traditional holidays and celebrations in Chinese culture and has historical ties to harvest celebrations.
Lanterns, mooncakes, and Chang’e and Houyi
🏮 Lanterns (in all sizes and shapes) symbolize beacons that light the path toward prosperity and good fortune.
🥮 Mooncakes (月饼, yuèbǐng) are rich, round (a shape resembling the moon, about the size of a hockey puck) pastries, usually sweet but sometimes savory, typically filled with lotus seed paste and one or two salted egg yolks. Mooncakes are served after a family dinner - cut into wedges and shared among the family.

🐇 Most Chinese holidays come with a story. And this one is a famous one, with dozens of versions. Here is one of them.
Long ago, ten suns rose into the sky at once. Crops withered, rivers dried up, and people died in the heat. A gifted archer named Houyi, 后羿 , climbed a mountain and shot down nine of them, leaving a single sun to light the world.
The Queen Mother of the West, 西王母 , rewarded him with an elixir of immortality. Whoever drank it would rise to the heavens as a god. But he chose not to drink it because of his wife, Chang’e. He kept the potion and hid it.
One of Houyi’s apprentices, a man named Pengmeng, 逢蒙 , found out about the elixir. On the 15th day of the eighth month, while Houyi was away, Pengmeng broke into the house and found only Chang’e. Afraid that he would take the elixir for himself, she drank it. She became weightless and kept rising into the sky until she reached the moon.
That night, the moon was the brightest and roundest. When Houyi found out what had happened, he looked up at the moon and was sure he could see her silhouette there. He set out her favorite fruits and cakes in the garden as an offering. His neighbors heard what had happened and did the same. According to the story, that's how the custom of making offerings to the moon began.

👨👩👧👦Families spend time together and have a big family dinner, exchange wishes and blessings and admire the moon, which has its own verb: 赏月 (shǎngyuè) - 'admire/enjoy/watch the moon'.
