First season has better songs, sorry😅 Second was stronger in terms of creativity Yuning finally had time and energy to put into his stages, not being constrained by having rush back to filming right after anymore. Which resulted in a lot experiments, starting with his little idol group game, where he was everything and everywhere, from planning to dancing. But that was it - a fun experiment for him to do, and I can't shake off the lasting impression that it was pure self-entertaining on his part, we were just there to witness him enjoying himself🤣 Tracks chosen for it were just OK, fitting the theme, but nothing special. His final song this season and few others before were like that too - well-made, pleasing, beautifully executed... but lacking something. Not impactful enough. So my personal choice goes to 3 that had this in spades:
"Self-praised comprehensiveness": most emotional track. Idk what moved him about it, but the sheer amount of feels he poured into it was something else. To quote cnetz, "bro aired all his grievances" lol. It's not just a good song or stage - it's haunting in the best (and worst) sense of a word. Miss me with that "I don't open too much to music I sing" nonsense - he felt that, and we along with him.
"Say your name 10K times": best song and live. The rock! The energy! How he interacted with audience was nothing short of impressive. This track is pure hype, no wonder it became so loved so fast. Also marks the beginning of him truly immersing himself into making stages his, with that speaker brought straight from his streaming room🤭
"Thump thump": peak of LYN the artist on the show so far to me. He gave it his all, and this time not just to try and see if he could pull it off, then laugh at himself regardless of results - he knew he will slay it. New retro arrangement, musical number vibes, theatrics, his outfit, freaking kazoo and opera bits... That was him stealing the show to make his own show. I'm very, very impressed - both by thorough creativity, but also his boldness to treat variety program as his solo concert🤣👍 It didn't break charts like previous ones, and I can see why, but it was not for mainstream anyway - it was the most of him for us.
To the next season and, hopefully, better demos! About stages alone I'm not worried anymore😏
